This small shop does good work but the«snarky» male proprietor was very rude and discourteous to me after doing business with his store for several years. Basically, this shop is poorly run with inconsistent store hours and no apology for failing to complete work left at the store for over three weeks. Proprietor was unwilling to give any appropriate customer service; giving me only one lamp that was fixed and said I could come back in another week to pick up the lampshade I had also left with them for repair. That is was MYFAULT that I did not call to ask if both my items were fixed before I came to pick my items up! What are we talking about? Why is the fault mine when I could only assume that three weeks to make repairs on two items was sufficient? The woman who took my items initially was told explicitly that I was travelling to Florida for a week and would like to pick up my items when I returned. She said that would be fine and that they«would not have to put a rush on the work» but«my items would be fixed and ready to be picked up when I returned. THEREWASNEVERANYMENTIONOFHAVINGTOCALLFIRST! Which is what the gentleman(a term is state sarcastically) said during a follow-up phone call when I re-stated my unhappiness with his arrogance. In fact, he even insisted upon his policy even when I explicitly told him that his policy was never mentioned to me by his female counterpart. Instead, he stated he would reprimand his co-worker(which I did not want to happen) and that I could take my business elsewhere; which I happily will do but, first, I would write my complaint on this site for all to know of his disgusting business practices.

Laura Joseph’s of Ridgefield is one of the finest resources in the area. They were able to repair a lamp that I bought in Brussels, with a new outsized shade ‚. American standard fittings and as a bonus a number of really unquue picture frames. The woman that served us was gracious and helpfull and the whole job was completed in under ½ hour. Can’t imagine why anyone would give a negative review!

Went in there for the first time wanting a lamp shade for my daughters room. I was greeted by a man at the counter who had an attitude and wouldn’t even listen as to what I wanted. He insisted that I bring my lamp in in order to buy a lamp shade. I wasn’t thrilled with that idea. I didn’t want my lamp to get damaged by bringing it to the store and I also didn’t see how a floor lamp would fit into my car with 3 child car seats in it. I didn’t even get to explain this to him because he basically cut me off and with a snippy attitude said«just bring in the lamp, it’s just that simple, it really isn’t hard to do». He didn’t even let me look around in the store. I am nice person who walked in wanting to buy a lamp shade. Well, I guess it’s just that simple, I will not be buying anything from them!

I completely disagree with the other reviewer. I was just at Laura Joseph’s the other day when I overheard the owner say to a customer over the phone, «Don’t worry, Mrs. Brown, your lamp is here and it’s ready. You can pick it up whenever you’re back in town.» …It didn’t sound like Mrs. Brown was being rushed in any way to pick up her lamp. Maybe the other reviewer who gave Laura Joseph’s 2 stars is exceptionally difficult and brings out the worst out of people? My reason for being in the shop was to find Vianne(glass flower petal style) shades for a pair of french sconces that are going to be installed in my baby’s nursery. Not only could the owner get them for me, but he also showed me another company that makes an exact replica for $ 25/ea vs. $ 125/ea. I then asked the owner if he knew where I could get 12 half-shades that would go on the bronze sconces in my dining room. The owner told me where I could order them but also suggested I take a look at the micro-mini lampshades that were made for another customer. I asked if I could have the measurements to see if they would work. To my surprise, the owner gave me 2 different samples of micro-mini shades and told me to take them home and try them out. Sure enough, one of the styles worked perfectly! If that is not 5-star customer service, I don’t know what is.

Whereas I have recommended this place in the past and gave them 4 stars, after my latest experience, though, I need to remove that rating. The owner has an attitude and insists that any lamps he repairs be picked up when he demands, and if you miss it, he gets angry. Although the work remains good, it is absolutely unacceptable for the owner to treat his customers in this manner.
