It’s not always about the kids, even though it is. Yet another get together with the gang, this time we threw a surprise party for one of our special member of our Mommies Club, Happy Birthday May! Just so happen this was the only decent bakery around, so one of us went out to buy a cake the night before, that way the birthday Mom wouldn’t realize while heading over to the club house togther. We decided on the 10′ Fruit Cake, simple yet elegant covered with lots of cream and a couple of assorted fruits placed on top. It was 3 layers of sponge cake with mixed fruits layered in between. The sponge cake was super moist, almost like a tres leche. Fresh, sweet, creamy, all the components I look for in a cake. The night ended pretty well, we had a Korean themed dinner that included soon du bu from So Kong Dong, wings from Boom Boom Chicken, and of course it can’t be complete without a Korean cake!

Chocolate cream bread is a must: really fresh, even after I bought it at 7pm, and not too sweet. Their banana cake was moist but could use a little less sugar. Highly recommend the mango bubble tea and iced coffee here!

I’m just going to rate this place solely on their Bubble Tea and not on their pastries and breads which look great, or even their lack luster of customer service. They have a good flavor selection of bubble tea, nothing out of the ordinary, or intriguing. I had the coconut, a friend had the taro, and another friend had the choco-mint all were very good. The bubble tea was in the slushy milk form, with shaved ice. The boba were good, soft yet chewy, and not over done or under done. Overall, this place is nothing too special to make a special trip for — unless of course if i’m visiting the Super H-Mart where its located.

No service at all. I stood in front of the register for a few minutes. Three people behind the counter, two guys looking at their phones, and one girl behind the register, not sure what she was doing. They didn’t greet me, didn’t say anything to acknowledge that they saw me. But when a korean customer approached, the girl went out and help the korean customer. After that, I just walked away. Do they only assist korean customers? Very disappointed and not coming back.

Unfortunately, Gateaux’s Blueberry Cream cake didn’t cut it for Dee. Reminds me of the light & airy cakes I ate while living in Asia, all while craving heavy artery-clotting butter-infused desserts to fill that sweet void in my soul. However! if you’re into lite-on-the sugar, frothy creams, soft spongy textures, gorgeous presentation, this very Asian-style bakery will do wonders for you. But for those that like fatty McDaddy sweets… no.

I love cakes from Korean bakeries. They have just the right amount of sweetness. I get em for birthdays, holidays, or just for whatever. The popular Gateaux cakes are Green Tea and Red Bean. Might have to call and reserve in advance because they sell out FAST. Their regular chocolate cakes are delicious as well. I hope they open up in K-town or anywhere else in the city.
