The One Bed and Breakfast

Passing through Richmond and was fortunate enough to get a reservation in The Cellar, which is a beautifully furnished basement apartment with a separate entrance. Made an easy reservation by phone and easily accessed the room using the keypad code sent by email.
The room itself was huge and fantastic. A comfortable and stylish sitting area with a television, a lovely kitchenette area with a wonderfully stocked refrigerator and pantry shelf, and a cozy, comfortable king size bed. You can hear footsteps upstairs, but it never took away from our complete enjoyment of this room. We didn’t want to leave!
Great for a romantic getaway – excellent location, friendly and professional innkeepers, wonderful accommodations. We hope to stay here again for a longer visit!

Solid bed and breakfast. We had a comfortable stay here. The Serenity Room is small and cozy. Very well styled. It is right above a busy street so bring a noise machine. Also be prepared to use your mobile data as the wi-​fi either doesn’t work or is painfully slow. If you’re in the other two rooms on the second floor of the house, know that their bathrooms are in the hallway, so you may find yourself face to face with other guests. The stairs are also super noisy so again, bring a noise machine.
Breakfast was just okay. Good selection but it is a continental breakfast so don’t expect anything fancy. Mini cinnamon rolls and the assortment of fresh fruit were a plus, the stale waffles were a minus. They have an assortment of snacks and drinks available all day which come in handy. The Keurig machine is also a nice and convenient touch.
The location is absolutely fantastic just steps away from Cary Town and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Having your own parking spot is also convenient. Overall a wonderful place to stay if you’re in Richmond.

This place is wonderful! I accidentally booked the wrong dates and showed up a week early and scared the owners who thought I was an intruder. But they were awesome and thankfully had a room available. I stayed in the Slumber Suite, which has a super comfy bed, TV, balcony and wonderful décor. The parlor is open to all guests and I super cute and cozy and stocked with snacks, coffee and wine! The location is also great. I will only stay here from now on when I come to Richmond.

My boyfriend and I met up at The One Bed and Breakfast one month ago. The proprietor, Sean, had not sent my BF the code for the entry, but we were able to reach him by phone and get the code, easily enough. We had our pick of the two bedrooms, and chose the blue Slumber Room. Since we were the only guests staying that night, we had full, private access to the balcony and to the lounge areas. Neither of the bathrooms are en suite, but since we were the only guests, we didn’t have to don clothes to make a bathroom run in the middle of the night.
The location of the B&B is excellent; in fact, we considered only B&Bs in the Fan district, and The One was the first one to return BF’s call. Sean did mention that no breakfast would be provided, however; and that he was willing to deduct $ 7 from the room rate. BF didn’t particularly care for this, but wasn’t in a mood to negotiate, either.
Our stay was wonderful. After dinner, we lounged around and relaxed. It was nice to have access to the refrigerator, stocked with beers (although we had also brought our own champagne and beers, too.) In the morning, we were on the couch, sipping mimosas, cuddling, enjoying our brief time together, when we heard a key turn in the door. My BF shouted «No, don’t come in» since we weren’t fully clothed. The maid must not have heard him or didn’t understand; she knocked and said «Can I come in?» And we both shouted «No!». A few minutes later, Sean comes barging in (without knocking). We scramble to get ourselves covered. He screams at us, saying that we terrified his maid, and to get up and go to our room. This was the most unprofessional encounter that either of us had ever witnessed, and we were left simply dumbfounded and in a state of shock. Needless to say, we won’t be going back.

Stayed here on April 29, 2014, and what a beautiful room! The bathroom is located just outside your door. I was surprised that no one said «hello» when I arrived or left — like at most B&Bs — but this is more of a commuter B&B. The common lounge was well-​stocked with bagels, danish, wine, beer and other refreshments. I was awaken at 2am by drunks walking through the alley below my room, but I suppose that is Richmond. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is located only two or three blocks away, and Shockhoe Bottom is only a 10-​minute drive. It was pouring rain on my visit, yet umbrellas are located just inside the main door. The main entrance has a keyless entry code — very convenient. If you make your reservation online, you receive a helpful confirmation email from your innkeeper. The owners are also accessible by phone. I’ll be back!

Great B&B in a fun area. The people were super friendly and the room was comfortable and decorated in a unique, fun style. They had snacks, beer, and wine out and games that you could play. Breakfast was continental. There is a code you are given to get in if the hosts are not home, so not worry about them being out when you get there. The bathroom is on the outside of the room, but that is listed on the site, so you know it going in.

We could not have asked for a better place to stay while visiting Richmond. My boyfriend lived in Richmond for a couple of years and we were returning to the area to celebrate his birthday. Our number on priority was location, and The One was beyond perfect. It’s within walking distance of Richmond’s greatest museums as well as the popular Carytown neighborhood where we spent much of our visit.
When we arrived, Sean and Polly weren’t at home, but we were provided with an access code to get in to the guest rooms. We were absolutely floored when we walked in. The One only has two guest rooms, which makes it the perfect place for privacy. Our room, The Dream Suite, is located at the top of the stairs and is beautifully decorated in shades of deep red. My only very minor gripe is that the bathrooms are no located «en suite.» Instead, they are directly outside the rooms. So while each bedroom does have its own bathroom, you do need to leave your room to get to it. Not a huge deal since there are only two guest rooms… but you can’t traipse to the bathroom naked at 2am, either!
The parlor is located across the hall from the guest rooms and is not only a comfortable lounge spot, but is also stocked full of snacks and beverages. This is also where continental breakfast is served in the morning. The spread is pretty standard– muffins, bagels, cereal, etc. It didn’t particularly suit my fancy (way too carb-​heavy), but it’s the type of breakfast my boyfriend loves.
Sean and Polly were fantastic hosts; very attentive and friendly. Honestly, they were the best B&B owners I have ever interacted with. You can tell that they truly love what they do. We can’t wait to go back to Richmond to spend another night at The One. Thanks to Polly and Sean for a great stay!

I second everything Kathy W. stated. My girlfriend and I stayed there this past weekend and were thrilled that we found a B&B with such great hosts. They clearly love hosting guests, as is demonstrated by the seemingly endless little touches that they have put into making your stay comfortable. We felt like we were staying at home. The common area is comfortable, complete with complimentary snacks, wine, beer, etc., well decorated, and relaxing. Although the house is old (built in 1914), it has been modernized and is beautiful. It is literally one block from all the restaurants and stores of Cary Street. In short, a great B&B in a great location, run by wonderful people. I won’t even consider staying anywhere else the next time I visit Richmond.

This was a fantastic B&B! Probably the best I’ve stayed at. It is in a historic home but is decorated in a more modern way so it doesn’t have that old dusty feeling that some B&Bs have. They were very thoughtful and have lots of small touches in the home. Breakfast is just continental to hold you over which I really liked because then we got to try the awesome breakfast and brunch at all the cute restaurants. The location of this B&B was perfect. We didn’t use our car all day. We walked to the art museum and then walked around carytown with lots of great shops and restaurants. The owners were very nice and gave us good recommendations for how to spend our time and they even invited us over to a party they were having. We bought a bottle of wine one night and sat out on the porch connected to our room and drank wine and ate cheese. The common room has a great couch to lounge on. If you are a light sleeper, you might want to stay in the red room because the blue room is closer to the street which can be a little rowdy on a Friday night.
