Fair prices– both as a buyer and as a seller. I was surprised with how much store credit I was awarded for a stack of metal and hardcore records I no longer needed. The selection downstairs takes less than 30 minutes to burn through which is nice. Plenty of singles/$ 1 records upstairs for the psychos that wanna dig. If there’s a recent pressing you can’t find, Marty will gladly order it for you. One thing in particular that I enjoy about Steady Sounds is the dj grade turntable at the listening station. When sampling unfamiliar material, nothing will make me lose steam like an automatic turntable with a shit cartridge. A customer is more likely to buy a small stack of singles if it takes them 5 minutes to sample versus 15 wrestling with a Crosley. And that’s a real concern at other shops in the area. Good work, gentlemen.

I returned to Steady Sounds again while back in Richmond on business travel… the place really changed! The whole store was setup differently and they still clothing too. THEGOOD… –picked up a few good records –good organization –new arrivals section –lots of budget LPs upstairs –listening station –records I looked at were in good shape THEBAD… –finding street parking close by the shop can be tough Overall this visit over a year later to Steady Sounds was like I visited for the first time. Definitely deserving of a star up!

not real pleased that it appears the price tag on something i purchased was specifically placed in order to obscure the messed up part of the cover. also, more rekids, less clothing.

I’m a fairly recent arrival to Richmond as of August ’14 — after making the rounds to all the record stores in the area Steady Sounds is clearly the top dog. Of course this could be based primarily on my music tastes, but with plenty of genre diversity and I’m still able to find copies of Fred Schneider LP’s featuring«Monster»? I’m in.

Awesome store with such a great vibe. The store and staff are incredibly welcoming. The prices and quality of the records you’re getting cannot be beat! Great stuff from a wide variety of genres. Really great layout to the store so nothing feels too crowded. The upstairs has some nice vintage collectibles laying around. Great shop!

Very nice collection of many genres of music. The prices are the best that I have seen, and everything I picked up was in great condition. They have a listening station which is key to test what you are buying. I plan to go back every month or so to see what other gems I can find.

Fantastic record store. Went today, Record Store Day, and this proved to be the most cool, festive record store I’ve celebrated this magic day yet! Killer shop fellas.

One of the best record stores in Richmond. They carry a diverse selection of quality records at fair prices. And the friendly owners and staff effortlessly disprove the Record Store Asshole trope(I’m looking at you Plan 9.)

Another one of Richmond’s on point record stores, Steady Sounds is an all around solid place with an eclectic selection of high-quality vinyl. If you want new LP releases, this is a good place to go. I like the wide aisles– they keep people from getting crammed on top of each other while going through the records.

Much like a fine restaurant, the product for sale is an extension of the owner/chefs. 3 Star Michelin. Steady isn’t steady. It rocks. It rolls. It finds vinyl that would make your aunt blush. It rolls it’s eyes and goes emo. Get some.

One of my favorite vinyl record shops in the East Coast with a great selection of old and new vinyl. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about all types of music.

What keeps me going back to Steady is that they focus on quality instead of quantity — there’s no flipping thru 5000 Ratt, Firestone Christmas and Streisand records just to find that one gem.

I signed up for Unilocal just to tell you how much I enjoyed shopping at this store. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The selection is a great mix of old faves and rarities(some records I never thought I would see in the US). There’s a DOLLARBIN stuffed with good finds, and the prices throughout the rest of the store are more than reasonable. Please support this establishment.

Steady Sounds has a little bit of everything that comes in vinyl: jazz, hip hop, soul, funk, rock, punk, electronic, new, used, 7“s…just no CDs. With the inventory so widely distributed across nearly every genre(even country and world music… seriously, EVERYTHING), there’s no section that is just overflowing with stock which is a bummer of people with niche tastes. The aisles are wide enough to waltz through which is considerably different than most vinyl shops I’ve visited and it gives the shop a hip, clean kind of feel. Still, what made Steady Sounds pretty awesome were the prices of the vinyl. They had a considerable number of $ 1 records and most of the pieces we found for used vinyl were under $ 6. Even the new vinyl was inexpensive at an average of $ 15. The prices alone are enough to make me stop again next time I’m driving through.

These guys worked at Plan 9 in the basement forever. They know their shit. They are no hassle, not cliquey, friendly and respectful. Prices are on point, and you can just chill out if you want to. I’ve never felt unloved as a customer. I always see something I want when I go there.

Awesome selection of reasonably priced vinyl. Scored some major finds in the bargain bin on a couple of occasions. Cool logo too.
