History
Established in 2006.
It all started with my Texan grandmother, Jobyna and her recipe for a white chocolate snack mix she called Gravel. The recipe has been driven from Texas to Pennsylvania and across the northern mountains into Vermont.
We’ve taken that heirloom recipe and just changed the chocolate to create the companion flavors: Asphalt (dark chocolate), Mud (milk chocolate), and Sand (peanut butter). We won a Best New Product Award at our first trade show, and have since been featured in many publications as well as on the Food Network’s «Road Tasted with the Neelys». I remember pulling gallon zip lock bags of Gravel from my grandmothers freezer on hot summer days and diggin’ into bowls of it for the holidays. When we moved to Vermont in 2000, Jobyna refused to ship it to me. I was devastated. Something needed to be done — mustering all of the courage I could, I asked her for the recipe. Reluctantly, she gave it up not sure what the results would be. Ten years later and we’ve turned it into a regional staple product in country stores and supermarkets alike.
Career changes can be drastic if you let them. As a technical writer for software and financial industries, it never crossed my mind that I would be playing with chocolate for a living. ..
