Jay provided expert advice for the design of my fiancées engagement ring. He ultimately custom built the ring for us and the end product is marvelous. Jay is incredibly professional and skilled at his trade and I will absolutely return for future jewelry needs.

I visited Jay randomly, not really knowing what I wanted. Jay was very accommodating and relaxed. (You can tell that he knows what he is doing.)
I waited a month or so before I returned and Jay remembered me. We tossed around some ideas before coming up with the final look for my fiancée’s engagement ring. Jay took a vintage pendant and melded it with a new shank to produce a wonderful ring.
My fiancée was wowed and I was very happy as well. Add in the fact that I didn’t break the bank and it’s hard to find a reason why we wouldn’t go back to Jay for any of our jewelry needs. Jay’s the man!

My original intention was to wait until the ring was finally finished, but after seeing the wax model, that won’t be necessary. 1) The fiancée loved it no end. 2) The details were sharp, and straight with no imperfections even under the microscope. 3) She mentioned several times about how he correctly carved the notes (yes, there’s a musical thing going on) and other symbols which means he took the time to look them up and make sure he was designing them correctly. And the cost is still way under what I had expected.

All I can say about Jay is «wow.» And that’s a compliment!
My fiancée and I were obviously in the market for an engagement ring. We received quite a bit of advice from many but with both of us having «been around the block» before, we had great ideas of what we wanted and could afford. Completely over the «big box mall stores,» we turned to Unilocal and discovered Jay Sharpe. Prior to coming in to his shop, I perused the Web and scoured additional local shops but kept coming back to Jay’s Unilocal reviews. That being said we decided to give him a shot and are totally happy we did.
We arrived at Jay’s shop on a Saturday shortly before closing. Knowing what I was looking for in a diamond as far as clarity, color, etc, Jay sat is down and educated us a bit in a warm, calming demeanor without a hint of overwhelming or pushing us. In fact, throughout the entire process, Jay never pushed or pressured us, a trait of his we’re very thankful for!
We learned a lot from Jay that Saturday (including finding out he had designed a wedding band for a friend of ours from his many references) and decided to have several diamonds brought in for our review. We additionally picked out a band and setting before we left.
We went back to Jay’s shop a couple of weeks later to review the diamonds, with Jay calmly educating us on how to hold the stone loop to observe the stones under magnification. Jay didn’t push us either way and we choose the stone to use for the ring. When I picked the ring up, Jay have me some advice on how to care for it, including how to test the stone every so often to see if it had gotten loose. No other jeweler ever suggested that to me before.
I encourage anyone looking for a reputable yet reasonable jeweler to check out Jay. His professionalism, enthusiasm and friendliness without a pushy sales attitude are keys in my book.

Jay Sharpe is a custom jeweler. His small store in Carytown has some pre-​made items, but most of his work is on a custom basis. pre-​made items to choose from in his store include a few collections of women’s jewelry, men’s cuff links, chunky belt buckles and other fun stuff. He’s also got a few pre-​made wedding bands and engagement rings.
He does lots of engagement rings. He’ll help you from start to finish, or if you have a diamond, you can bring it to him and he’ll design a setting. He can also do about any other custom job you can think up.
I love this place because Jay Sharpe is sooo nice. He’s just a genuinely friendly guy who’s extremely talented. Custom jewelry isn’t always in my budget, but if it was, I’d always end up here.
