Four Points by Sheraton Richmond

I stayed at this hotel while traveling on business.
The room was fine. Relatively quiet, although I did hear frequent door slamming early in the morning (around 7:00 a.m.). Bed was comfortable. The climate control system was a bit tricky. There are controls on the unit (that don’t work) as well as a control panel on the wall. Took me a while to figure out the system and get my room to a comfortable temperature.
It was evident that the hotel had undergone some upgrades recently, but it looked like they cut corners on some of them. For example, the closet door was sloppily painted and stood out like a sore thumb against the rest of the décor. Wasn’t a deal breaker, but it made me wonder what else they may have cut corners on.
The bathroom was spacious with a large, modern, glass shower that had a wide nozzle and strong pressure. However, I was disgusted by the dirty footprints on shower floor (Good thing I pack my own cleaning and disinfecting supplies when I travel!). The sliding glass shower door didn’t close all the way (by design) which led to a very wet floor, post-​shower. Also, the hot water in the sink came out a translucent white color… Weird.
The primary reason for the low rating of this hotel is an incident that I experienced at breakfast.
When I checked-​in, I was told by the front desk clerk that breakfast would be from 6:30 am to 10:30 am. Since he never mentioned a fee for it, I assumed that it was included in the stay. The following morning, I arrived downstairs in time to have a quick bite and still make it to my meeting on time. I fixed myself a plate and as I got ready to sit and eat, one of the wait staff (a skinny white girl with straight, bleached blond, shoulder-​length hair) started interrogating me. She asked me something to the effect of if I was supposed to be dining here, followed by did I have a ticket (she never said what for), was I a guest at the hotel, who I was there with, what I was there for, etc. It was both embarrassing and infuriating being stopped and interrogated by this child. Not to mention, it was way too early in the morning for this foolishness.
Adding insult to injury, she told me to wait there while she while she got someone named Sam, who I assumed was her manager. I stood there feeling like a criminal for 5 – 10 minutes, but she never came back. I finally spotted her setting up a table and I asked her how much longer I had to wait for this Sam guy to come out and resolve this situation. She looked at me like she had never seen me before and said, «Huh?». I reminded her of the conversation we had JUST had 10 minutes prior and she mumbled something like, «Oh yeah, let me get him» as she scampered off. Turns out, Sam was just another member of the wait staff. He was unaware of the confusion, and invited me to sit down and enjoy my breakfast.
By this time, I was furious! Not only was I embarrassed and humiliated, but now I was also late for my meeting. I asked to speak to a manager. The front desk manager, Monica, was prompt and professional in addressing the situation. She thanked me for calmly and politely informing her of the situation. She also refunded one night of my stay and offered me breakfast, on the hotel, for the remainder of my stay (which I declined).
It was only then that I understood that breakfast was not included in the stay. Not a problem. Had I been informed of that (instead of being interrogated like I’m at Gitmo or something), or handed a bill for my meal, I would’ve gladly paid whatever was required. But never once did the waitress mention anything about paying for the meal. Instead, she asked me everything BUT that! ‘Who am I there with?’ ‘What am I there for?’ What does any of that have to do with paying for food?! That kind of treatment was unacceptable.
I work for a Fortune 50 company and I booked my business trip through our company’s internal travel website, which had this hotel listed as a preferred lodging option. I will be notifying my company of the way that I was treated during my visit, as well as encouraging them to remove this hotel from the company’s list of preferred hotel providers. I would hate for another of my colleagues to be treated with the same indignity and disrespect that I experienced.

The staff here is very nice (Monica at the front desk is amazing!) The lobby entrance gives this place a welcoming feel. I’ve stayed here several times, each time hit or miss. I’ve had rooms that stank like sewer backup (326), water that leaks from the ceiling and maintenance never shows (309), air-​conditioners that sound like they have a bad fan belt and squeal like they are going to blow up. I guarantee you will flood the bathroom in almost every room while you shower, do yourself a favor and build a towel dam in front of your shower and save yourself the hassle of cleaning it up (or flooding the room below you). I noticed during my time staying here that they are attempting to fix the issue with the showers by letting you close the door *almost* all the way. The fitness center is in the same muggy, humid room as the pool– not making for pleasant workouts during the hot/​humid summer months.
It is such a shame this place is in such disarray. there aren’t many starwood properties in the area– fourpoints is the lowest this place can be demoted before being unbranded. I’ve stayed in best westerns that were in far better shape than this place.

We are here for just a few days thankfully. Upon entering the room there was a very damp/​moldy smell to the room. I chalked it up to the fact that the air was turned down so very little air circulation. Then as I was settling in, I noticed a few pieces of trash under the desk. Actually, they were tags from departments stores and rather obvious, which leads me to ask, «Did they even vacuum?» The bathroom is ok but there was no fan so it gets steamy quick! The shower door doesn’t close all the way so when I got out of the shower there was a huge puddle. The lack of fan and build up of moisture in the bathroom probably doesn’t help that musty smell either. No artwork and very bland as another reviewer stated. I don’t mind the lack of décor or «frills» since I won’t be spending much time in the room. The beds are comfortable and staff is friendly so that deserves a mention. Actually, as I sit and type this I’m looking under the dresser and see more trash… that’s gonna take this down to a two-​star.

One word: gross. The young front desk guy was nice, but this hotel is severely neglected. The hotel is old but it is not kept up to par. Some of the nice photos on this page, especially the picture of the gym, are NOT this hotel. I think some people are getting the two locations mixed up.
Lets start with the gym. Two treadmills, only one really works– mine shut off after 5 minutes of use. There are words of encouragement made of sticky vinyl letters on the dark brown wall, all of which are sliding off and curling up. The elliptical is held together with black duct tape. There are water stains on the floor from where the air conditioner drips. There is a metal rack that is bent. All the light fixtures are rusting.
As for the rooms, the beds are ok. The furniture looks a little beat up but alright. The lights in between the bed didn’t work (checked it was plugged in). The bathroom was the worst. The shower floor wasn’t clean. The toilet had a crack in it and was dropping water. The mirror was filthy. The water pressure of the shower was insane– it hurt! The splash back went everywhere. I tried adjusting the pressure but that didn’t work either. Every wall has stains on it.
Looks like they replaced the molding in the bathroom, but it wasn’t the right size because the wallpaper doesn’t meet the molding. So, the wallpaper is curling up and ripping. Paint chipping from the ceiling. Just all around kind of dirty.

First of all the staff here is very nice and by no means do I feel as though they are to blame for the downfalls of this hotel. I booked this hotel because it was a 3.5 star rated hotel, however it did not live up to expectations.
Pros: very nice shower, great bed, staff allowed me to check in exceptionally early because my room was available without a fee
Cons: upon arrival nothing was plugged in– lights, phone. The pool first of all had at least 8 frogs in it and the lining of the pool absolutely needs to be fixed. That was not a pool I’d ever get in. When I asked for more towels I was brought one and informed it was the only one left because everything was in the wash. Here’s the kicker though– there is construction going on on the top two floors. At 9am I was woken up by very loud drilling above me which continued all through the day til 5:30pm. I finally made a complaint to the front desk where I was given a free meal at the restaurant due to the inconvenience. The food was sub-​par at best though. Finally, the room itself was very bland. No artwork or fixtures which is not a huge deal to me however my partner is in the hotel business and found this to be odd and dry.
The Four Points by the Airport is a better choice despite the lower rating you’ll find online.

Wedding party booked about 30 rooms over the weekend. The front desk staff is very unorganized, and unprofessional.
Upon check in @ 3pm several guest had to wait in the lobby while the rooms were cleaned, some up to an hour long wait.
I was told by several guest that to pool was very disgusting and apparently had animal carcasses floating near the skimmers… small fish? Absolutely Disgusting! Front desk was not concerned, at all.
Also, when the groomsmen called ahead to have the shuttle pre cooled in the 95 degree weather, the incompetent front desk staff did nothing, and acknowledged they lied about starting the van. The manager was extremely unprofessional and insisted it was rude of us to even consider asking they pre start the shuttle for 10 mins and refused to accommodate us.
The elevators wreak of marijuana.
The AC in our room was worthless.
I won’t do business with this place again…

VERY friendly and efficient staff, at all levels from the front desk to the restaurant to the cleaners. And they mean it when they say «pet-​friendly».
Nice (small) heated pool, indoors and outdoors.
The beds are the most comfortable around and the rooms have plenty of electrical outlets to charge your gadgets and devices.
Attractive grounds, with a pretty small lake and lots of grass even though it is in a very commercial area. The shopping nearby is amazing.
Food was good and the service friendly and efficient.
Negatives? The TV in our room didn’t respond to the remote, even though the front desk quickly sent up a replacement remote when asked. Neither remote worked. The room heating unit was very hard to control. The hallways were absolutely FREEZING.

Here are the pros:
— Clean comfy bed. Hard mattress. Good stuff.
— Thermostat and heat work well… even if the fan is on the whole night and is super loud.
— Free, easy to use WiFi access.
— Two bottles of water for me every day.
— Convenient location to restaurants and shopping.
— Microwave and fridge in room.
— Nice lobby area. the best part of the place.
Here are the cons:
— Gym is old, dirty and nasty. It smelled like mildew and there was a stain on the ceiling. There were no clean towels, only a soiled one that was left on the floor. It had a moldy mildew smell. If you use the elliptical machine, your head may hit the ceiling. The pictures of the gym on Unilocal are completely inaccurate. That same elliptical machine was held together with tape.
— More about the gym: How about fixing the decals on the door so Push/​Pull are actually accurate? It’s not hard to do. It’s just lazy not to do it.
— The tub was old and rusty. I was on the SPG floor and I couldn’t believe that they just re-​did this.
— Loud AC Unit.
— Loose toilet seat. How hard is it to bolt that down correctly?
— Found a chocolate malt ball on the floor. Gross. Carpeted areas were frayed and old.
— Where’s the free breakfast? When I booked this hotel, I was told that there would be a free breakfast. I feel lied to… but this may have been a miscommunication since I booked this through Sheraton.
Conclusion:
— I would stay here again after they finish fixing up the place. It’s a good location. Good service. The new rooms are going to have showers instead of tubs.

Hotel reviews for me, are all pretty standard, because it’s pretty challenging to exceed my expectations.
The Sheraton had some pluses, they were pet friendly, had a nice campus, lobby, pool area and a friendly staff.
The Sheraton had some minuses, the elevator smelled «Odd» (perhaps because of the pets!), the AC unit was incredibly noisy.
They had the standard accouterments available for use in the room.
All in all, not a bad place to stay, especially if you need a place for Rover.

Picture if you will, a weary couple traveling with their Jack Russell Terrier on a road trip from Philly to Key West. They made an overnight stop at the Sheraton Richmond Park South Hotel at 11:30pm on Friday, June 27.
After settling into Room 256 the following conversation took place:
Me: «Bone under the bed…»
My Wife: «No way; you’re disgusting.»
Me: «NO NO! THERE IS AN ACTUAL BONE UNDER OUR BED!?!»
We were traveling with our Jack Russell terrier and obviously had been given the «dog room» because our little guy was going crazy sniffing every inch of the room. His terrier instincts kicked in and he went to ground under our bed and led me to find a disgustingly dusty bone that had been overlooked by housekeeping. Since it was very late & the front desk was an unorganized mess we decided to tweet a picture of the bone and ask @spg for assistance. As per normal @spg responded immediately, to apologize & help us with the situation. We were told the manager would be in contact the next day.
Upon check out we were asked if we could wait a bit longer until the duty manger arrived to discuss our issues. We declined stating we were on a tight schedule and we could not wait to leave.
We finally heard from the duty manager the next day and she offered her apologies as well as a few goodwill gestures including SPG points.
Observations During Our Stay:
1.) Hotel is in desperate need of renovation
2.) Dirty Carpets
3.) Elevators & hallways reeked of pot.
4.) «Club Lounge» was a joke. There was a TV missing from the wall! We were told breakfast started at 6:30am. There were continental items available: cereals, fruit, breads & pastries, but no hot option.
5.) No carts available to assist with our luggage at 11:30pm. Seriously? Although the front desk manager offered to help us with our luggage.
6.) Disorganized check in; found 3 staff members talking amongst themselves before even acknowledging my wife standing there.
7.) No mention of an SPG welcome amenity until we asked; and when we did we were given points & Club Access.
8.) Malfunctioning card scanner further delayed the already long check in process.
This experience is just another gust of wind in the sails of our ship sailing away from SPG properties. We’ve been loyal to SPG since 2003 but we’re beginning to see bluer waters at other hotel brands.

My fiancé & I stayed here for two days for a family wedding. We liked the place and it was located in a pretty convenient location (close to a lot of restaurants). The hotel itself was pretty nice but our bathroom looked a little run down.

The hotel needs some love but the service was great — I was in for a meeting and the girls in the sales departement took care of my group every step of the way. The front deszk agent Miriam was very pleasant and informative.

This was our first stay at the Sheraton Park South. The wedding that we were attending booked this hotel. First impression it was nice and we didn’t have any problems checking in.
The issue came when we arrived back at the hotel after the reception. My fiancé had a pack of cigars in his pocket that they had planned on smoking at the wedding venue but never did. There was a security guard that met us in the lobby and immediately came up to my fiancé and asked him what was in his pocket. He pulled out the cigars and told him it was for the wedding. I don’t think it was appropriate for him to have come up to us in the first place and ask what was in his pocket (part of the plastic bag holding the cigars was sticking out of his pocket) — we were not being rowdy, just trying to get on the elevator to go to our room.
Once back in our room, we immediately fell asleep (mind you, we had been up early and running around all day, so by the time the reception ended and we were back at the hotel, we just wanted to pass out!). Around 2:30AM, we heard a loud knock at the door. It continued a few more times, and my fiancé finally got up to open the door — it was the same security guard and said that the smoke detector had gone off and asked if we were smoking in our room. He said absolutely not and that we were sleeping. The security guard finally left.
When we were checking out the next morning, I asked for a receipt and then the lady at the front desk asked how our stay was. I told her it was fine other than the security guard incident, and then she proceeded to tell me that she just remembered that I was going to be charged $ 200 for violating the non-​smoking rule (how do you just remember this when you already printed the receipt?). I told her that we absolutely were not smoking and mentioned the incident in the lobby the night before. She got her supervisor and she advised us that she would need to check the room and also get the engineer to check the smoke detector before they would take off the charge. You can imagine how inconvenient and a shock this was, especially since the smoke detector in our room didn’t even go off! Apparently, they have a system that alerts them of smoke and which room and it was going off all night. They said that it could have been the cigars that triggered this (even though they were in a plastic casing and not smoked). Well, if that was the case, the cigars had been sitting in our room when we had checked in at 3PM — wouldn’t it have gone off earlier? Why did it all of a sudden go off after our encounter with the security guard in the lobby later in the night?
Needless to say, they checked our room and everything was clear and they took the charge off — it was a good thing I had asked for a receipt and told them about the security guard incident. What if we had left and then noticed the charge only after housekeeping cleaned the room and they wouldn’t have been able to check to see that there were no ashes or smoke smell or even check the alarm?
I am not familiar with the procedures for employees handling this type of incident, but it would have been a lot better of an experience if the front desk was upfront with us when we were checking out and not charging us $ 200 without talking to us about what they saw on their end before we even brought it up. I also think they should do a better job with their security handling this type of incident — completely unprofessional.
It’s too bad this happened — we had no problems with the hotel and having to have such a bad experience after enjoying a wonderful wedding and reception was a damper on our stay.

This hotel needs a refurbishment. The wall paper in my too is coming off: needs an update. Excellent customer service, though.

Miriam Poe — the Front Desk Supervisor — was the highlight of our stay. We were out of town to play a show at The National and although the hotel was out of the way she did everything she could to keep us happy.
Next time we’ll rent a car to get back to Sheraton Richmond Park South, but I would recommend a night there to anyone that needs a nice place to stay. Thank you Miriam!

Beautiful, comfortable hotel with very friendly staff. The hot, delicious breakfast buffet is one of the best for a hotel. Wide open spaces and beautiful views of the manicured lawn and body of water behind the hotel. The only thing missing is a bellhop to assist with the luggage cart. I will stay here again on my next visit to Richmond. I highly recommend this hotel.

The truth is that this hotel is so old and downtrodden — it’s tired an dirty — no way around it. The other options in the area are nill to nothing which is why they survive.

This is a comfertable hotel. I enjoy the starbucks and tazo tea in the rooms, as well as the free wifi. The shower heads spray sharp needles of water, which is quite unpleasant but its tolerable. The gym is small with a few cardio machines and a free weight rack, but not many people utilize it so I seldomly have to wait for a treadmill. The real gem of this hotel is the restaurant and conference space. Good meals at an ok price and the conference areas suit all needs, big or small occassions. Of course they offer the state rate and have a deal with my organization for direct billing, making it easy to book. The staff are very friendy and go out of there way to make your stay pleasurable.

I LOVE this hotel. It was one of the first I stayed at in Richmond, and I was overwhelmed when I realized my dog was not only welcome, but treated nicely! We had a room on an upper floor, our dog was allowed to stay in the room with us (of course he enjoyed the king sized bed) and we even got a doggie goodie back when we checked in.
I like a good Sheraton because they have california king beds and really comfortable duvets. Our room had a nice sitting chair, and a desk as well as a spacious bathroom. Everything was really clean (even though they let dogs stay there!) and nicely appointed.
I also really liked the grounds around the hotel– lots of grassy areas to walk your pooch. There was a pool too that was half inside and half outside, which was kind of trippy… and they had a hot tub that was clean and nice. When I stayed there there was a wedding in the evening but it didnt really bother me… and when I went down to the pool there were a bunch of people in there but that wasn’t a big deal either.
Seriously, sometimes I wish I was staying at this hotel instead of at my own house, that’s how much I liked it. I’ve recommend it to everyone in my family who has come to visit…
