It gets hot in Richmond and Scottish blood boils in such temperatures, I’m talking 30 degrees(that’s Celsius — you know, the 1 that makes sense?!), I was miserable… about as happy as a penguin in a microwave. Then my friend lead the way into this wee pokey store. A pleasant chap behind the counter scooped me up some of his finest ice cream and it was superb. Cool, tasty salvation!

I visited on a Thursday at 11:50am and they are closed. Maybe an update to the hours, please? I would really like to try the mangonada!!!

The mangoneda was amazing. Not sweet, like a fruity Bloody Mary. Amazing. Would love one every day lol

Their own site says they’re open until 8:30 p.m. but they were locked up tight at about 7:30 last night: Other reviewers have mentioned early closures as well. Just make it official and be done with it.

Whenever I come here, I spend more money thank I was expecting. That is the only bad news about Destenny’s ice cream. I have known the oweners for quite a while and they have always been very friendly. Now they have more personnel but their level of service is great. So now, why do I spend so much money when I come here: –The mongoneadas are delicious! They add icecream to them which makes them standout. — Their tapioca drinks, where you can combine the flavors in whatever way you like. — Their mixed fruit which are just delicious! — Their icecream of course. Come to Destennys. There will be something that you will like! Just expect to spend $ 30 or more cuz you will buy more and more!

Super small shop, literally only space for people ordering but so worth it for their Mitchell’s ice cream!

This review is for mangonadas only! I came here feening for mangonadas and it was the only place still open(I was commuting from San Francisco to Sacramento). I came while they were cleaning and getting ready to close so the place smelled like cleaning products. They were still sweet enough to serve me and answer my questions about the different flavored ice cream they had. They even let me try some flavors even though I had already ordered and they were probably in a hurry to end their shift. They used both shaved ice and mango sorbet(I love it when places combine the two. it’s less overwhelming and I don’t feel as guilty eating it). There was no self serve chamoy or chili powder on the side but this one didn’t really need it. The one thing that really stuck with me and was a huge disappointment was the slices of raw, hard, sour/flavorless mango. Maybe this was their style but I’m used to diced, sweet, ripe mango on my mangonadas. I would say this was the only bad thing I could remember about their mangonada. But I’m sure that if I were to return another day, they might have ripe mangoes. I don’t recall if their tamarind candy wrapped straw was good or not. Some places have very old straws so the candy on it is grainy and dry. I’m not sure if I’ll come back due to the location, but if I do, I’ll update my review!

This place is a gem! There are a real lack of ice cream shops in the Richmond area. Baskin Robbins just doesn’t cut it for me. They have all sorts of delicious offerings, but I always go for the amazing Mitchells ice cream! Great selection of flavors and cones to go with it. And 1 scoop is a huge scoop! Such genuinely nice people working there too! I bought a half gallon of rocky road home with me last time I was there. :)

Love their mangonadas and the fact that I don’t have to cross the bridge for some Mitchell’s ice cream!

CAUTION. They close earlier than what’s posted. 3 groups of people standing out front wanting icecream and you can see the guy hiding inside.

I love this place!!! Only place I know of that has Mitchell’s ice cream this side of the bay. Raspados are delicious too! So hard to choose what I want when I go there.

Only 1 review? This place is amazing! Friend and I were craving ice cream in Richmond and saw this place on Unilocal.Standing room only ordering area and menus that are literally made of construction paper, but the woman behind the counter was incredibly friendly and welcoming and the ice cream was delicious. They have some really cool homemade goodies like Mangonada which I definitely want to try next time. If you’re in Richmond frequent this spot. They get a ton of love from the locals who probably don’t care much at all about Unilocal but know a good ice cream joint when they see one. Had multiple families and customers just say hi and make chit chat with us while we sat outside on the sidewalk.
