Allied Propane Service

They have propane.

I needed to have my propane tank purged, so I called Allied Propane to ask if they can do it for me. The lady on the phone said yes, and that it would cost $ 12.50. She said they would be open until 4:50, so I hopped in my car and drove 20 miles to their shop. When I got there, the lady had the front door locked, at told me through the glass door that «they’re all in a meeting» and I would have to come back later. Ummm… what? You made me drive 40 miles round trip for nothing?! I should send these guys a bill for $ 6 for my gas to drive out there. So, I will not be returning. I’ll have my tank purged and filled elsewhere. Too bad for them, I would’ve been a repeat customer!

This has been my go to place for propane refills for over ten years — about every two months. The obvious secret is to take an empty tank so you can get what you pay for, i.e., 5 gallons. No complaints from this grill. Woohoo! As good as it gets!

Bad price, and 5 gallon minimum PER TANK. I was going to fill 4 tanks, so would have gotten over 5 gallons total, but each tank really only holds 4. At least 20% over charge! No thanks!

This afternoon I discovered that within the past week, Allied Propane has instituted a minimum 5 gallon charge. 80% of sailboat propane tanks are 2.5 gallons, or 9.6 lbs. IOW, you’re being charged 2X for 2.5 gallons of product that you can’t carry with you. Allied Propane is reaching directly into your wallet and stealing $ 10.00 when you fill a small tank.

After numerous phone calls for service, I was about to give up on Steve, who seemed either unwilling or unable to come out and convert my drier to propane.
After complaining to the propane delivery guy, a new service technician named Mark, called me back and dealt with my problem. He explained that he’d been recently hired as Steve was overwhelmed with work.
Mark was excellent. He knew his stuff, gave me a great deal, and went the extra mile for me to get the right parts at best price.
I think Mark will go a long way in restoring Allied’s reputation.

Be wary if you make an appointment to have any service work done, it may not be honored.
Steve was nice enough when he scheduled a time for me to have a leaking service valve fixed on my VW campmobile’s tank. But when I showed up, his brother Terry (the service tech/​manager/​whatever) was downright rude.
Terry said he was not aware of the appointment. Then when he looked at it, said it would take an hour labor ($ 85) and $ 15 in parts to fix. When I agreed, he responded with «But I’m not doing it today» and said I would have to make another appointment. Steve was out so I called him and left a message but never heard back.
Sliver lining: Went to Kamp’s Propane in Hayward and they replaced the service valve and filled the tank for $ 35.

Always had good quick service here. Price is reasonable as well.
For propane cylinders, drive your vehicle through the entry gate on S. 51^st and up to the loading dock. Give cylinder to person on loading dock and get ticket for payment. Take ticket to office building on northwest corner and pay for propane. Return to loading dock with receipt and pick up full cylinder and you are on your way.

Admittedly, I didnt know what I was doing when I went in, but I kinda expected them to be helpful. A semi-​toothless monkey man didnt even stop his mopping up long enough to be polite as he told me to go to home depot. Well, next time, I certainly will!

They are only open during the day during the week, but it’s an easy enough place to get propane refills if you are already on 580 and don’t want to go back to town. I also had a custom refill tank hose made here by one of the mechanics.
