Richland Community Center

They only allow rooms to be reserved in person monday to friday 8am to 4pm. So if you lets say happen to have a job then they dont want to serve you. I asked what other arrangements could be made and was told by a particularly rude woman on saturday that if i couldn’t be there in person mon-​fri 8 – 4 to make the reservation then «I guess you wont be renting a room now will you?» Seems like a «community center» would be more serious about serving the community. The library is able to reserve rooms online and the staff is actually friendly and helpful.

I worked in Richland recently and stumbled across this community center by accident… because of the architecture «Oh…I wonder what that building is?»
Turns out, it’s a really nice community center. The front desk worker was helpful enough to let me know the times for the group fitness classes and I was able to participate in an aerobics class the next day. The quality and amount of equipment for the group fitness classes is AWESOME. None of the weights are peeling or gross, there are plenty for everyone, they’re stored in a cabinet, not a broke-​down cardboard box, etc. Plenty of double-​thick, double-​long mats for yoga/​abs/​pilates workouts too. As a bonus, while you’re working it out, you get to look out over the Columbia River through a wall of floor-​to-​ceiling windows. The sound system WORKED! I could hear the instructor calling out moves, not just static and loud music. Can you tell I’m used to community centers that are slightly «less than»? I strolled around afterwards and found the gym area with well maintained treadmills, stationary bikes, ellipticals, a complete set of free weights, and 4 weight machines too. Again, it overlooks the river. It’s a lot easier for me to work out when I’m not staring at a wall. It’s $ 3 per day to use the gym or $ 20 per month. The classes have a monthly enrollment fee or you can just do drop-​in.
While I was leaving, I saw kids playing pool, using computers, and a bunch of community members in a room for a meeting. The center is located behind the CRESHT Museum, in Amon Park. Plenty of parking too.

An update. Since my tough review several months ago, customer service seems to have been improving. My last few visits have been kind and responsive. I felt upgrading my rating was appropriate.

I spent some time here when I lived here recently. Good classes. beautiful well-​maintained building with lots of windows. Parking area clean. Sits on edge of a lovely park.
My hesitation about 4 not 5 and its really a 3.49 898 989. is
a.) some rude front desk people. not willing to be direct or informational in answering questions
b.) a huge problem registering fo ryoga classes when 2 instructors were ill and gone and not handling a long line of over 60 people who wwanted classes.
That said — the use of the building and many opportunities fo rmany people is tremendous. There is a small lobby/​game area for free. There is a workout room which can be used with workout machines fo rlow cost. Classes are varied and reasonably good. I did take from 3 different yoga instructors– 1 exceptional and 1 with such a screetchy voice that was the yoga of patience– I have no idea what we did and 1 very young relatively new instructor who when I talked with her about mechanics was open to listen and oddly it turned out that her Seattle instructor is a close friend of mine.
So I averaged up — 4.5.

The Richland Community Center is a swell hangout for the Richland-​ians. There is a recreation room with video games, pool table, etc. The City of Richland also offers many other classes – such as Zumba, yoga, and on and on.
I have also seen classes being offered in here as well. On their website, there is also mention of a fitness room, arts & crafts room, meeting rooms, computer lab, lounge, and the list goes on.
So all ya’ll in Richland, go to the Community Center and put it to some use!
