Lived here for 3.5 years and graduating this next semester! UTD is known for never ending construction and horrible parking but it’s just a developing university which is getting more crowded every year.
The ATEC and JSOM buildings are more aesthetically appealing compared to the rest of UTD. JSOM study rooms on second floor are always taken. I also like studying at some of the study spots in the ATEC building.
SSB also has some study spots near the Multicultural Center as well as inside the Center. SSB also has the health center and the women’s center as well as psychiatrist/​counseling resources.
The activity center gym is also pretty packed except for early morning. I love playing racquetball there. The rock climbing is fun to do once.
The SU has panda express, Moes, Tomato (old pizza place), Ben and Jerry’s, and Chicken Express.

My son, my money, and some of the government’s money goes to UTDallas. So far, so good. the campus seems new and inviting. I have met nothing but helpful, pleasant staff. Calculus is giving him a hard time. I like that. This means that I sent him to a school that is challenging.
Orientation was informative and thorough. Family day was a blast. So, for now, I am extremely proud to call my son a Comet.

The college seems okay, but I have a big issue with a private police force that harasses and feeds off of the people that are there to learn. Us students pay a ton of money to the school, only to be the subject of police stops and tickets through the nose.
I personally have not had to deal with the police (yet), but on the first day of the semester I saw several people getting pulled over and our professor told us that the cops will issue speeding tickets for any speed over the measly 20 MPH limit (like 25). To add to that insult, when you are in class and they are busy checking your parking permit, they also check your registration and if it’s expired, you get a ticket for that too.
How the hell is this okay? Even city police do not treat the public like this. Why would a major university intentionally turn itself into a police state and prey on the students that are paying the bills?

Avoid the EMBA program.
Good profs for the most part, but the EMBA program is overrun with lazy administrators trying to peddle self help books under the guise of career development. No true international component, either. You’d be better off going to a foreign university than letting their administrators pass on a debt burden to pay their salaries.
The Executive Education programs have yet to be profitable at UTD. There are a suspiciously high number of administrative professionals who are part of MBA programs that neither teach nor research. They make a small announcement in class, free load your international trip but you’ll rarely see them. It’s my understanding the EMBA class size has dropped dramatically.
The program director for my program was terminated two months into a 21 month program. Replaced by someone that commuted in and simply ignored emails or contact requests. The profs don’t want to run a business, they want to research and freelance teach. That doesn’t fly in corporate america where they have to deliver results.
UTD as a whole is probably fine, but I would avoid the EMBA program.

I like the very nice fountain area near the Student Union. I like that my car was 100% not broken into after I paid $ 5 to deposit it at the parking structure 1, unlike some American colleges and also in Tikrit where I need to post an armed guard around The Dragon. The parking/​transportation boy driving the tram around campus was very polite to me and my guest returning us to our cars at the end of the day.
Y’all need a lot better signs, signage, and directions posted around campus. WE DON’T ALL IMPLICITLY KNOW WHERE THE STUDENT UNION IS, SUSAN. It was 101 degrees and I had to find my way not only around all the construction on campus to find the parking structure 1 (which isn’t even labeled as such and there are no signs telling you where it is) but then once I found that there were no signs indicating in which way I was supposed to go to find the student union. It’s not always summer, but it conveniently is right now. 15 minutes later of wandering around to buildings that were clearly not the union, I finally found it.
All in all I wasted a lot of time navigating around campus streets to dead-​ends and blocked off streets due to all of the construction. Not a single sign anywhere indicating where to go. This was madness. And it was the wrong day to wear a black suit walking around campus just past noon with no shade to be found. So, plant some more trees too as you deal with the sign and directions issues.

Beautiful campus and wonderful staff with mature student. Coming from UNT, I highly recommend this school to anyone who is very serious about their studies and has a more technical degree. I am in Arts and Technology and the newer building is wonderful! The program is fun and still artsy and technical. I love that everyone is focused! A great place for an excellent education!

I think it is fair to update the UT-​Dallas review with a nicer one, as I think the quality of their service to students has gotten better. They’ve made a lot of strides over the past 3 years, even specifically addressing some of the exact requests that I complained about in my original review. Some things haven’t been improved… but I’ll cover them all here. This will mirror my original review:
–UT-​D as an academic institution is still a pretty good one. The teachers are quite good (I think they’ve gotten better, actually!) Some of the foreign teachers that I’ve had have been hard to understand, but I’ve only had a couple of teachers that I would label as «bad.» For an MBA, it’s ranked as high as SMU (and potentially higher in some cases!) and it’s a TON cheaper. As I said in my last review, check your professor out on the Internet before signing up for a class with them. In some cases, this might show you what’s great about your professor that you didn’t even know!
–The plagiarism is a huge issue, but I understand why it’s happening better, and how to better deal with it. I believe the university is required to accept foreign students with a TOEFL score of 80. This is too low in my opinion, especially in the MBA program. I’d argue that students need to at least make a 100 on the TOEFL before they should be accepted into the MBA program. (I think some of the administrators are trying to find a way to set this requirement as well.)
–Additionally, fellow students, you may not realize the proper way to report academic dishonesty. Don’t tell your teachers, as this just puts them in an awkward position! Report the student DIRECTLY to Judicial Affairs (
), do NOT pass go, do NOT collect $ 200! This will make all of our degrees more valuable, and increase the quality of your education!
–They listened to me on parking! They built a damn parking garage! You can also pay by phone, which is super handy. The $ 300 parking passes remain (as well as the pay by transaction and hour parking), and they’re still a huge rip-​off. Professional MBA students – consider not buying a pass and paying with metered parking every time you come. You’ll probably save money, and have better parking! No kidding!
–The office staff has been a LOT more helpful to PMBA students, and people have actually been put into roles where they’ve done more to reach out to the PMBA students and cater to them. This is SUPER welcome in my book. (I still can’t speak for Joel, the accountant. He can still go rot, for all I care. I hope he’s been fired by now.)
–One additional gripe that I have to add, though: The testing center is a pain in the butt. You make an appointment, wait in line anyhow, and the folks behind the counter (or at least the ones I’ve encountered) are pretty much jerks who act like they’re doing you a favor. And the stupid little lockers that they make you toss all of your crap in don’t work half of the time anyhow. Folks manning the testing center – don’t be jerks to students that are trying to take a test in your testing center. They’re already nervous enough. Don’t make them feel like crap because they forgot one of your silly rules that exist in order to discourage cheating. (Better idea to discourage cheating: Accept only students that can speak, read, write, and think in English.)
Overall, though, I’m a lot happier with the direction that they’re moving in. I don’t give it 5 stars as it’s not perfect, but I’m not sure if that’s a realistic expectation. Either way, UT-​D is the first establishment to work it’s way off my s**t list, and for that, I’m proud of them.
Edit: If you are a foreign student who plans to criticize this review by messaging me or «complimenting» me, please do so in proper English with complete sentences. If you don’t, you prove the very point that I make in this review about the lenient TOEFL requirements.

Really cool campus with a lot of modifications being built. The school itself is growing a lot, and everybody i’ve met seems happy, motivated and very intelligent! There is a push to develop the scientific curriculum and research in general, and the Honors college is phenomenal with the students awarded any from a broad range of national and international scholarships that are bound to raise the bar at UTD. Definitely on the road to becoming a top institute in Dallas and Texas in general!

Love this campus, but it’s always going through a ton of construction! Future comets will be very lucky to be at a beautifully renovated campus! Everyone else just has to sit through it for now.
I used to be an ATEC major here before I transferred, and their ATEC program is kind of lacking. Understandably, it’s relatively new to UTD and UTD isn’t much of an art school.

I came here to give a presentation and it was my first visit here. Very beautiful campus with open common areas, lots of parking and a great dining hall. The school is undergoing a lot of construction right now, especially on the north entrance, so finding your way around might be full of detours. Campus seems to have a diverse student body (ethnically). Very close to City of Dallas proper.

I graduated from a college that absolutely screwed me over, and then a friend invited me to hang out with his friends from the ASH group here… We had a lot of good times, and then they eventually betrayed me. I waited until a whole new group of people were involved with the group and got a whole new circle of friends after I moved away from town and moved back. Slowly and surely the old ASH group members crept back into the group. While the new group members were welcoming and inviting overall, the old group members were unwelcoming and hostile overall. At one time I gave this school ⁵⁄₅ because of how nice the people here treated me, but after all of the immature back stabbing that the people here did I have to now give it a ³⁄₅ stars.

I truly enjoy going to school. I got my BA here and I’m currently working on my MA. Could UTD make improvements? Sure. But so could every school, and in the last 10 years or so I’ve really seen this place flourish. I’m glad I attend this school and would recommend it to anyone. Great, small atmosphere, plenty to do on campus, and one of the best educational values you can get!

One star so far, trying to get enrolled. Went online and the website is not user friendly. I clicked on transfer student, then the link asked me so set up an advising appointment so I did that. It took me two hours to find the building because there are no street signs to tell you were anything is at. Finally found the building and got my appointment which I was told to go online and fill out the paperwork. Wouldn’t it be better for the website to take me to the paperwork instead of telling me to schedule an appointment?

Parking has GREATLY improved over the last 2+ years, there is now a large parking garage near the new ATC building, and I believe 1 – 2 more parking garages in the works elsewhere on campus. If you are planning to attend uni here, get a Gold parking pass, not because it will get you a closer spot, but because the sheer number of parking spots you can find will increase. Always arrive 15 minutes early, as it can take some time to find a spot if not parking in the ATC parking garage, and it also takes a little while to walk to class as parking is on the outside of the campus basically.
I can only speak for the quality of the ATC department (EMAC in general) as I have not taken classes elsewhere at UTD. Each professor has brought something unique and challenging to the course, not a single class I have taken was worthless or did I ever question «why are we learning this??»… to me that speaks volumes for the professors to be able to relate the course material and assignments back to real life scenarios and situations.

One of the up and coming universities not only in Texas, but in the nation. World renowned for its Business MBA program, it also has the 5^th best Criminology Department in the world… yeah, let that sink in.
Will be attending UT-​Dallas pursuing a Master’s starting in the fall of 2014 and I can’t wait. There is new construction everywhere, and the campus truly looks like a 21^st century college.
UT-​Dallas will not remain a hidden gem for long.

I’m into my third year here and I love it. I wish I had time to take more classes, but I enjoy going to school. The campus has really been given a face lift in the last few years and they are constantly improving the facilities (especially parking. just opened a new parking garage!!).
I can’t speak to the instructors, because they are people after all… but most are very good at what they do… while others lack the proper people skills to even be teaching… I’m talking to you in the Math department!
I’m so glad that I chose to come here, because the environment is a really great place to learn. There’s so much diversity and the cultural aspects of the school really are refreshing… as it helps me in my dealings with my fellow human beings…
I’m excited, as always about continuing my relationship with UTD!

I took a campus tour here with just my brother (self guided tour) just because they’ve been sending information about their college. Now, I do appreciate the fact that they care about the scenery of this campus. When you drive up they have a native plant area (which does look out of control), but its native and natural. It’s in their natural state.
The buildings seem very new and modern too. The library on the other hand, has an older look to it, but its filled with books and computers.
They also have a geology gallery which I thought was pretty cool.
The campus is nice.

Gorgeous campus but the parking sucks! I’m a city girl and love the fact the Dart is easily accessible and FREE for UTD students. I also enjoy the diversity on campus and look forward to starting in the Fall.

I am a graduate of UTD and am fairly proud of it. Sure, it’s not as prestigious as other Texas schools or even as well known, but it’s a good school. I’ll say that my high school experience did not prepare me for college and I came into UTD thinking I’d smoke all my classes. I was wrong.
My college professors challenged me and I did okay, but not until I involved myself in campus activities did I really start cooking with gas. This is where it happens. It’s not going to class and studying. It’s getting involved so you have a sense of pride in your school and what you’re doing to contribute to it and then you go to class and you study because it matters to you, not just for the grade, not just to make your parents proud, but to do something for yourself and for your future.
I graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree. Some professors are better than others so check with your orientation leaders to find out who you should choose when you register. The EE degree, at least back in ’95, only had 6 hours of free electives, so choose wisely!
The school has gotten a new building every couple years and seems to have lots of money to spend to improve the school. We just took a walk around campus for some fresh air and exercise and I gave my wife a tour. So much has changed and so much is still the same.
Make sure you take advantage of the sky walks in the summer. Student services are there to serve you! Don’t put soap in the fountains. Buy software while you’re a student. Once you graduate, the cost of software goes up 10x.

Best value hands down for public universities in Texas.
Parking: people complain about it. That said, it’s better than almost any other school I’ve seen. The «remote» parking, which is something like $ 60/​semester, is a maximum of 10 – 15 minutes away from your classes. Some people don’t like the walk, but it’s way better than you’ll get at places like UT Austin, especially for the price.
Student Life: For such a new school, the fact that there are a dozen social fraternities and sororities, plus all the academic or multicultural ones, is amazing. Very strong Student Government, etc. ALCOHOL SERVICE ON CAMPUS, YEAH.
Athletics: No football team, but great facilities, and an indoor rock wall.
Faculty: Great. Graduate level better than undergraduate, but still, very good.
The biggest thing I liked about it is the responsiveness of staff. When students have an issue, it gets handled, period. Whether it’s parking, lighting on campus, textbook prices, problems with certain departments, food selection, wanting to be able to buy alcohol in the Student Union… students bring these issues forward, and the University accommodates.
Highly recommended.
