Specialties

The Practice Tee has four instructors on staff. They are all passionate about teaching you and fitting clubs for you. We are a facility that prides itself in quality and appearance of our grounds. There are over 80 grassy areas to tee from and if you like to hit off mats we have those also in our pavilion. We have large putting and chipping areas.

We do ask you not to bring or use a shag bag on our facilities.

Adams Golf has a testing and demonstating area on our facility.

The Practice Tee takes pride in being the finest golf center in the Dallas area. Bring the whole family out and enjoy hitting golf balls or maybe play our 9 hole par 3 Golf Course. There are 8 sand traps with no water hazards. Pay (daily special) $ 7.50 for each person and you can play all day for one small fee!

There is also The 19th Hole Grill and Sanck Bar. The grill is open daily from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm and we serve burger, fries, griled chicken sandwiches and much more.

Business Owner

Jerry graduated from Texas State University. He served as the Asst. Pro at Lions Club Golf Course in Austin, Texas under Golf Pro Tom Penick. He was an Asst. Pro at DAC under Golf Pro Graham Ross. Jerry served as the first Head Pro at Preston Trails Golf Club. He over saw the construction and served as the Head Pro and Mgr at L.B. Houston Golf Course. Jerry served as the Head Pro and Mgr of Tenison Park Golf Course. He over saw the consturction of all 63 holds and served as the Head Pro. and Golf Dir for Firewheel Golf Park. When Jerry retired from Firewheel Golf Park the Tournament Pavilion was named in his honor. Jerry was part owner of the original, The Practice Tee, along with his partners and mentors from Preston Trails Golf Club, Charles Summerall and the late Ed Hoffman. After 50 years as a Golf Professional, Jerry still has the growing desire to help better the game of golf. His new endeavor is to oversee the development of the finest golf center in the Dallas area.

Nice area. I heard the staff is rude from previous reviews but I didnt find out for myself. The layout is pretty simple and grass is cut. Pretty place, well kept. Just somewhere to go when you want to golf I guess!

It’s pretty much the only place in the Richardson area to hit your balls.
The driving range flags are poop so you really have no clue how far you’re hitting.

The guys working there were very nice and accommodating, and very appreciative of their customers — I liked that. The par 3 course is very short but fun for chips and short game, and I imagine it would be hard to beat on a summer night with beers. When I went it was pretty muddy but fun anyhow. For $ 10 you can go around and around on the course.

Prices are great and they let you borrow clubs so it’s perfect for a first timer or even a date! :)

Driving range area was meh… more sand than grass. Markers was confusing and view is a railroad track. Can’t really say the atmosphere is great. It is relaxing in general to fly balls in general but I’ve seen much better ranges. The putting green is super slow. They need to take care of their greens more.

One of the nicest driving range facilities I’ve ever visited. The range closes at 11pm and they stop selling buckets around 10:30 or so.
A) For those who went to the old practice tee remember the range being open for 24 hours so this is definitely a let down. Sometimes, you just have an itch to hit some golf balls at 3am… I know I used to.
B) But, for those who have never gone to the practice tee, 11pm is an awesome time. From personal experience, there is nothing open this late in Austin, San Antonio, or Orange County, CA.
There is a par 3 course.
There is grass to hit off of (at the old practice tee, you were basically hitting off sand covered by a few blades of grass).
There are a couple covered areas.
There is a practice green.
There is a chipping area.
There are water coolers.
Legit.

I would give the old range a 4 star because it was open 24 hrs which was one of the reasons I loved going there. The new one closes at 11. The range set up is a little weird and the par 3 course isn’s as fun as the old course. I do enjoy the short game practice area although the greens are just as bad as they were in the old location. Overall not a bad range. They did raise prices but if you are a UTD student you get 20% off.
I might reconsider raising this rating when they start serving alcohol… thats the rumor.

I’m going to have to regretfully downgrade Practice Tee by one more star.
The grounds simply are not representative of the grounds you’d experience on a course, and when you’re practicing at the range, you want it to be as similar as possible so that it’ll translate to your next round. The ground is just too hard and the grass is not the right type of grass. When I’m practicing my irons and getting underneath the ball, the ground barely gives at all, making it feel like i’m hitting concrete. This in turn gets me nervous about getting underneath the ball because it freaking hurts. Result? I end up topping a bunch of balls and I have a hard time establishing consistency in my shots.
Also, while it’s nice that they have a putting green, it’s as bumpy as a 15-year-old’s face. It’s not exactly the greatest for practice.
I’d forgive Practice Tee for these things if their prices hadn’t been raised (cause you’d chalk it up to, «you get what you pay for») but now it’s definitely not «you get what you pay for,» it’s «you get less than what you pay for.»

I’ve been to the old one and I enjoyed the experience. The Practice Tee recently moved over a little on the UTD campus and started up the new one. Their prices have changed and have been raised up to a couple of dollars. The jumbo pail is $ 17

Practice Tee has moved to its new location on Renner and Waterview. This new location is amazing. Great chipping green and putting green with a lot of undulation.
I must say that the Teaching Pro, Todd R. is a magician. He simply fixed a lot of swing issues I had within one hour.

It’s a pretty nice golf range.
They’ve got buckets for $ 5, $ 10, and $ 15 from the machine. Remember to bring change otherwise you’re gonna have a lotta balls, literally! You can go to the office to get change, but they may not be open 24hours, but the range itself is.
They’ve also got a couple covered areas to tee from if it’s too sunny out or if it’s raining. If the covered area is dark at night then just turn the timer switch that’s on the wall to light the baby up.
If you feel like hitting some BIGGER balls, there’s a batting cage next door. They’ve got several softball, slow and fast pitches, and baseball pitches from 40 to 90mph, if I’m remembering correctly. Adjacent to that batting cages there’s a free covered area for catching practice in a netted area. If you forgot your bats and helmets at home, they’ve got loaners for free.
