Defcon One

I initially contracted with Defcon One security when I first purchased my home. At the time of installation, John said he was working on getting fire/​smoke detection, so I chose to stay with the company on the promise of that and the fact that the previous owner had the security company installed.
Fast-​forward to today and I don’t think the company offers smoke or carbon monoxide detection (or if it’s available, I was never given notice to add it to my system or upgrade, etc.).
My second issue is the contract itself. Signing a standard 3 year contract is fair and standard. Automatically renewing a contract annually without express permission or written notice is not – and upon terminating my service, I was told I was still under contract. The lack of transparency and notice on this issue was galling, to say the least, and I’m leaving Defcon One as a very unhappy customer.
Thirdly, you can notice the hours here on Unilocal.If your system malfunctions (which happened, creating a full-​on intrusion noise that any code entered into the panel wouldn’t shut off) and you have that issue, it’s not guaranteed that service comes out and, if so, not necessarily in a quick manner.
Lastly, my system malfunctioned again this week as a result of a faulty breaker (which was not apparent). Trying to get someone to come out and take a look (again, as the system was making all sorts of disruptive noise) was difficult as no one was answering the phones and it went straight to voicemail.
The only reason this isn’t a one-​star review is that when visits were made, John was courteous and professional.
For the same amount of money, you can have service with a nationally-​recognized company complete with ²⁴⁄₇ call center service, fire/​smoke/​carbon monoxide detection, and a contract that goes month-​to-​month after the initial 3 year contract. All in all, I would not recommend Defcon One Security.

Defcon One provides excellent service at a great value. John Catalina is knowledgable, professional, pleasant to work with, and is a man of his word. I’ve had several occasions to work with this company and all my interactions have been great. I would certainly recommend Defcon One to anyone needing security services. Additionally, the company is active in the community and supports local schools. Another good reason to work with local businesses.
