I’ve meant to go here for years, but miss it as we enter the Welches area. So glad I made it here. Set up with mismatched chairs, lodge-like couches and fireplace makes a real rustic energy. The owner is the server and he’s been here for years. I totally love this place. Mellow vibe and great food. The chicken club san had a touch of rosemary that really set it off. Best curly fries anywhere. Seriously. grease-free and crispy. Unlike some of the other reviewers, we didn’t wait for more than 10 minutes for our food to arrive and there were 4 or 5 other tables seated.

This is our new go-to breakfast joint when heading to the mountain. Amazing homemade biscuits and jam won over this southern gal. Can’t wait to try the entire menu!

If it wasn’t for the fact there were only us and another family who waited 45 minutes to get our food I would’ve ranked this higher. But sorry that’s a little too ridiculous when nobody was in there. 45 minutes for fries and a Monte Cristo sandwich? Please. Without the wait it was 4.

Looked like a fun place to go for breakfast. All signs pointed to a great pick, full parking lot on a Sunday morning, happy folks on their way out the door. Unfortunately, the staff of 3 was completely overwhelmed. We left after waiting 25 minutes, never getting table service. Normally we might wait a little longer but there were no sign we would have gotten served in time to make it back to the hotel for check out.

Food was ok but don’t be on any kind of schedule to get anywhere. Over 1.5 hours for a simple three person breakfast is crazy. I pretty much had to bus my own table as the 3 that were working(including the cook) were overwhelmed.

I remember this location as a small general mountain supply store on the way to Mt Hood. It has been transformed into a great mountain restaurant with a very small general store component. The fruit and vegetables were fresh. All the food was well prepared and tasted just right. The waiter was easy going and very friendly. We will come back.

Okay — let’s start with the fact that many people were leaving when we sat down– with the waitress saying«sorry.» Why didn’t we leave? Being the hopeful people we are — we decided to give them a chance. We ordered — there was no biscuits and no coffee! While waiting for our food my husband was looking around the store and stepped in dog poop! I told the waitress and it was still there when we left! Food came — fingers crossed. Well — it was terrible– cold, raw onions and peppers. Don’t think we will ever go back!

We have been meaning to get in here for a couple of years, man I wish I had listened to the passengers in my head… Yes I said head. I have a lot of foodie voices in my head and they kept saying«it’s a funky building that has food, dude you need to stop and check it out. Well we stopped this morning and we were not disappointed. It’s definitely a family run joint, for family’s. The food was and fresh made and piping hot, and more importantly TASTY. The quantity of the food was just as good as the quality of the food, I had to push the plate away with food still on it… Bummer. The staff was friendly and attentive and the place was clean. We will return.

Good food with a nice view. We had the My Hood scramble, biscuits and gravy, and the Huckleberry pancakes. I think the scramble was definitely the best bet because of the interesting ingredients. Scrambled eggs with sausage and cheese, topped with tomatoes, peppers, avocado and crème fraîche. The atmosphere is rustic and the service is typical for the community. Friendly, but don’t come here in a hurry!

Had such a great breakfast here! The server was so nice and accommodating, even though we walked in at 11, right when breakfast was ending. The breakfast was AMAZING, homemade, big portions, and a great price. The ambiance was nice, we sat by huge windows that looked over the streams in the woods. Minus one star because the coffee was not great, but it’s definitely worth stopping by!

I have stopped by this place a few times over the years and have always had a pleasant experience. If you are heading up any of the hiking trails off E Lolo Pass Road, this is a must stop. I have not tried much of their menu, but what I have was well prepared. A friend kept raving about thier lasagna a few weeks ago. The staff is always friendly and the food is always good, so what else can you really ask for? My only suggestion would be to stock a few more drinks(non-alcoholic) and perhaps more ‘trail food’ for people who stop by on their way to some outdoor adventures. But as their main focus seems to be a restaurant, that really is not a big deal.

We stopped here on our way to Powell Butte — steered by Unilocal reviews. Excellent choice. The atmosphere is charming, cozy and warm(with a lovely view of a creek bed below). I ordered a veggie sandwich that exceeded my expectations, with grilled onions and peppers, fresh avocado and sourdough bread. The curly fries were hot and tasty, too. My boyfriend’s pizza was fairly standard, but with fresh ingredients on top. Highly recommend this place.

Great food. Casual — cozy. Very reasonably priced. Nice service. A million times better than other similar spots in the area. A great way to end the ski day!

My girl and I came down and were headed home from a day at Mt. Hood and saw this place and figured we’d give it a try. A very cozy and nice place that definitely gives you that lodge an woods feel as you eat and upon entering the establishment. A perfect restaurant and place for the location. Great food, great atmosphere, and friendly staff and very cheap. Definitely should be on the list to check out.

My wife and I went here on the way back from a weekend rafting trip in Maupin, OR. After waiting for several minutes in a big line at the Maupin Breakfast place, we bagged that idea and headed back West towards home and landed upon this place. The wooden sign with painted words said that it had been listed as not a good place in 2005, and then in 2008, new ownership came in and completely revitalized the place. We arrived a bit after 11: am and got a great seat near the back that had a nice view of the creek. The place was really busy with the smells of sausage, potatoes, coffee and pastry lingering in the air. What a welcome scent for us hungry travelers. The waitress was covering the entire place by herself and doing a fantastic! job at it. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs with Potatoes and my wife had the order of biscuits and sausage gravy with Rosemary. Both dishes were excellent and upon walking out of the restaurant I told my wife that anytime we are in the Mt. Hood area and needing some Breakfast we are going here — no questions about it. I highly recommend this place and this was one of those«meant to be moments» that we landed up here and had a great experience, as opposed to «settling» for the really busy and crowded breakfast spot in Maupin.

We found this quaint log cabinesque stop on our trek up to Mt. Hood recently. Located just before the Ranger Station on the left eastbound on 26 it can be hard to see on a foggy or rainy day. Make sure you stop in, they’re super nice folks, very homey, and you get the mountain feel the moment you walk in if you have not got it by the time you reach there. Zig Zag is a combination one-stop mountain shop, hot food energy station, chilling out or warming up stop, and nik-nak store. When warming up or having a bite, make sure to sit in the back and contemplate nature’s best with Bear Creek running just behind Zig Zag! The décor is typical of its environment. This is a must stop going up, or going down.

Not impressed. My wife and I stopped in after skiing around 1pm on a Sunday. They asked us 2 – 3 times if we are there for Breakfast? I asked if we can get Lunch each time. They said yes but its confusing why we are asked multiple times. Are they pushing their breakfast? I asked for a beer and was told none were in the cooler. Waitress asked me in a serious tone, «would I like a warm one?» Amazing. With water in hand, I had a bowl of chili and fries and it was just so-so to OK on my scale of what chili should be. As for the store/restaurant, it is a nice looking place and the people are nice and friendly. It looks like the restaurant across the street is where everyone heads to based on the amount of vehicles. It was my mistake to pick the wrong one.

Cozy and perfect for breakfast. The challah french toast is delicious, and comes with eggs and a piece of sausage the size of a hamburger. For the $ 4 breakfast, the eggs were perfectly cooked and the breakfast potatoes were stand-outs. Usually potatoes are just there, something to soak up hot sauce and ketchup, but these were tasty in their own right. The biscuits were not the best I’ve had, but the homemade strawberry-rhubarb jam was great.

Came here on our way to Mt Hood for some snow fun. Coffee was good. Biscuits & gravy: pretty good. Bacon: to die for! sunny side up & poached eggs: made to perfection. Chicken fried steak: decent. Potatoes: friend said they were good. Overall, a very delightful & hearty breakfast.
