The best ethnic food in Rhinebeck. Now that they have grown into their new space, all those nay-sayers who gave 1 star review(for having to wait on line the first night they opened… really?) should try going back and comment on the food which is much different and better than what was offered at their old location on Rt 9 south of the village. As good, if not better, as the Rhinebeck hotspots Bistro, Market St, and Terrapin. And to top it off, a real 8 oz pour on the wine too. I’d go there more often but they are always packed. Recommend The Tandoori Meat Platter, Andra Chile Chicken, Tamarind or Coconut Rice, Peshawari Naan, Raita, Mango Chutney and Saag Paneer. Plenty of food(and booze) for 2 of us and we walked out with change from a $ 100. Thanks…can’t do that at our other favorite spots.

Great service, good food, and a nice looking restaurant. Highly recommended! I got chai tea and it was a little strange tasting but if you put sugar it will be fine. The nan bread is great, as well as the chicken and rice I ordered. Friendly waiters.

The service was excellent. The breads and curries were good but not memorable. Try the Indian restaurant in Woodstock: Mountain

The meal started inauspiciously since the wait from being seated to being asked if I wanted a drink, let alone food, was more than 15 minutes while three servers hovered over the large party at the table next to mine. I sensed that table assignments were a bit fluid and I was being unintentionally passed over: a very poor start. The pappadum breadbasket made up for this a bit: quite good with a smartly presented selection of service of sauces. The room also soothed my annoyance, as did the appropriately small table at which they sat me. The lamb roganjosh was excellent. In fact, the best lamb shank I’ve had in a few years. It was tender, yet firm, perfectly cooked with an succulent light sauce. The rice was well prepared and the garlic naan also excellent. I kept eating the generous portions despite being full since it all tastes so good. The service improved markedly after the rough start, and the bill was surprisingly reasonable for such great fare at a lovely location. A great meal.

Food ok, but very expensive. Sunday night salad bar $ 19 per person, $ 9 for bottle of beer(Taj Mahal).

First time trying Indian cuisine with some friends. We told our server and she was so excited to help us find things we would love and told us what to try and how to say the names of the foods and what was in everything. The food was AMAZING and so was the service! Great drinks, great food and great service! We can’t wait to try more and will be back again! Thanks for making our first experience so much fun and so delicious! Beautiful restaurant!

I’ve been going to Cinnamon for several years. Their prior location on Rt 9 just outside of Rhinebeck and they’ve recently relocated directly in the center of Rhinebeck. The renovation to the building was extensive and the atmosphere is as good as it can be. They opened up the side area and have very comfortable seating arrangements throughout the restaurant. Great color palette and soft, ambient lighting. Now, for the food! Excellent! Service was top notch and the food was fresh and very tasty. I highly recommend anyone to try Cinnamon if you’ve never been. I am a local resident and consider this the best Indian food in the Hudson Valley, by far! Rita R — Hyde Park

I loved this place when it was on Route 9. Now I’m sure they have to charge more to pay a Rhinebeck rental rate. Ate lunch with a friend of mine today. Food was at best ok. Not up to par from the route 9 place. And the bill, for lunch, with my friend having one glass of wine was $ 75 before tip. I had 3 diet cokes. They charged me $ 9. Really? We shared an appetizer, she had the burger and I had a less that par chicken biryani. Won’t go back.

Very nice place to dine. Liked it a bit better when it was at its previous location, but the food and service are still very good. I felt with the new location, that I was sitting very near the other people and could hear their conversations. The previous location was a lot cozier and the parking a lot better. I had the Korma with shrimp. It was good, except they put carrots and potatoes in it, which was not a preparation I had experienced before. I eat neither and picked my way around them.

Cinnamon is a well-established Indian restaurant who has recently moved to the heart of the Village of Rhinebeck known as the culinary hub of the Hudson Valley. Their new space is truly beautiful. It is well-designed, cozy and a true reflection of their high quality authentic cuisine. The wine list is well priced and sophisticated. We always find the owners and staff to be warm and inviting. We have been patrons for years and have consistently received great service and delicious food in a warm, relaxed and refined atmosphere. Cinnamon is much more then a place to eat out its a true dining experience.

Had visited Cinnamon before when they were on Route 9 with a group and was satisfied with the experience. When I heard they moved into Rhinebeck, I was ecstatic as it was slim pickings of ethnic cuisine to choose from. I was there for lunch around 12:30pm. We were seated and catered to right away. The waiters were personable and knowledgeable about the menu. I decided to have the Bombay burger which came out great! Overall, lunch was pleasant and I loved the décor! Prices remind me of Manhattan. The lunch menu portions could be bigger though.

We stopped for dinner during a Hudson Valley trip and were delighted. Food was excellent, best Indian we’ve had anywhere north of Manhattan, and ambience was delightful. Service was outstanding as well. We will definitely return.

I recently enjoyed a lovely, delicious lunch at Cinnamon. Personable service along with colorful, fresh and yummy food. I’m not an Indian food aficionado by any means, but I loved it. New space is beautifully decorated and well located right in the center of town.

Was very pleased to find this gem in Rhinebeck. I have been to the other Cinnamon location and loved it so was happy to see their expansion. Delicious food and great service delivered in a cozy, well decorated establishment. I was actually surprised to see some negative reviews as I thought everyone here was pleasant, and my Lamb Masalawala was spectacular. Will certainly be back on my next pass through Rhinebeck.

Five stars for food, four only because service was a bit uneven. To be fair, I got the impression that they were still working out their workflow, or perhaps down a person, but in any event it seemed sortable-out. But oh, the food… For apps we got the lasuni gobi, because I can never resist that when it’s on a menu. Delicious, crispy, lots of umami, just like it should be. Also palak chaat, which was stupendously delicious. Sort of like bhel puri, but different. Just as good, if not better. For mains, I got navarathna korma, which is probably my favorite Indian dish. This was easily the most delicious one I’ve ever tasted. Korma can be pretty heavy, but this was somehow light(okay, light-ish, it’s still korma) without losing any flavor or texture. Others with me got goan fish curry and some kind of lamb. I didn’t taste them, but my dinner mates seemed rather happy. This really was some excellent Indian food, and we’ll definitely go back. The uneven service wasn’t enough to keep us away, and it really did seem like they were a bit overwhelmed. And with food that good, it’s not surprising.

This was really freaking good. My husband and I came for my birthday and we were not disappointed. I had saag paneer because it’s my favorite thing in the world and they did a fantastic job. And my husband had chicken something or other with rose water something or other and good lord it was good. We were very happy with everything. The only thing I could critique is the atmosphere. We prefer a more laid back, less pinky up dining experience but when in rhinebeck… And that’s just our preference.

It pains me to have to write the worst review, EVER. They opened on Thursday, January 28th. I called that evening and made a reservation for me and my boyfriend for Friday the 29th, at 6:30. We arrived on time. Us, and another couple stood in the doorway for 5 minutes before anyone even took a moment to notice us.(I’m sorry but standing there for 5 minutes IS a long time. We were seated, then moved because they realized they were squishing us in between two other people while more spacious seating was available. It took about 15 minutes before anyone even brought us a menu and 35 minutes later, no one came back(not even water!), so, we left. Even the gal seated to our right, who was dining solo, ordered her food an hour prior and it was not even on its way out. Now, I do understand this is their first time in a new location BUT they are not new to the restaurant industry, having their former establishment on Rt 9. All in all, it was a huge disappointment and left quite a sour taste, but I do hope to update this review at some point and offer something positive. In addition, how does one rate something five stars, when clearly there are multiple areas that need improvement?(E.O. review).

I would like this restaurant to get its act together and succeed, but so far, our visits — two attempted, and one completed — have led to frustration and dissatisfaction. The first time we went, we waited in the cold entryway, not being acknowledged at all for a good ten minutes until the owner/hostess came over. She said the kitchen was backlogged with orders and could not handle any more, even though there were a number of empty tables. This was the day after they opened at the new location, so we gave them a pass. The second time we went, we were ushered to the adjacent dining room. Service was neglectful and spotty, and the portions for the food were small for the price. Our appetizer — of four tiny pieces of lamb — was forgettable. The shrimp main course I had was okay, but certainly not worth the $ 22 price, and the garlic nan we ordered was dry and had no discernible garlic flavor. The room itself was nicely decorated though, except for the bare cement floor which gave the room a cold feel. Our server seemed harried throughout and didn’t return to check on us after we received our mains, nor did he clear the dishes when we finished. The bill of $ 80 left us feeling annoyed. The last time we went, we called ahead, and the voice recording mentioned a lunch buffet. The number we called came from Cinnamon’s new web site(listing its new location), so we relied on it. We arrived at 11:45 to an empty restaurant. No buffet. No explanation for why the voice message mentions a buffet. Then we got the menus, and it was not even a separate lunch menu but the usual dinner menu. Unacceptable. We left, and I suggested to the waiter than maybe someone should change the phone message, for it would have saved us a trip. When Cinnamon was at the old location, I liked it more, but it was never great, just fair to good, but I do hope they get their act together. It’s sad that this area is such an ethnic cuisine wasteland that this type of sub-par cuisine is lauded. I am also skeptical that of only three reviews(at present, all five-star) two of them are written from photo-less reviewers identified only as «E.O» and«Mrs. O» who have a whopping four reviews total and seven reviews total, respectively. Hmmm.

With a brand new space and new energy, Cinnamon has reinvented itself beautifully. Now located in the pulsing heart of Rhinebeck, the restaurant now boasts a chic yet comfortable setting and menu while keeping traditional flavors and cherished favorites like the Chicken Tikka Masala. The long, bar-like table in the center of the restaurant offers a community-like dining experience which affords the opportunity to meet new folks or just eavesdrop on the eclectic foodies that frequent the Rhinebeck eateries. Tables are available for those seeking more privacy and an upstairs space is expected to open soon, which should offer more of a laid back feeling. Their Indian style burger is fantastic and seems to be a lunchtime favorite. I’ve only gone for lunch, shying away from the busier dinner crowd while Cinnamon tweaks their service, which every new restaurant goes through in the first few weeks. If I had a complaint, that’s what it would be. Service is slow and the waitstaff seems a bit disorganized. We had two waiters serving us at one point and both seemed a bit lost. It would behoove the owners to have a stronger presence in the front of the house to direct staff and expedite service, while keeping their guests happy. There seems to also be communication issues with the bar and drinks are slow to get out. All things considered, however, the food is the star and hopefully all else will fall into place.

I love Cinnamon and have been going to their location outside of town on Rt 9 for years. They have just opened their new location right in the middle of Rhinebeck! The menu is a little more streamlined, but it’s the same great food as before, and the new décor is very cool. I’m excited to see how they settle in to their new home!
