Started by Laura Auer in March 2005, Wish Special Events was originally called Soirée Special Events. After a transition to become a sister company of The Dandelion Patch stationery stores, Wish brought on a fabulous team of wedding planners to serve DC-​area couples. I always knew I wanted to plan events. I attended James Madison University and received a business degree in hospitality, with the idea that I’d work for a hotel or caterer. Then my husband proposed and I dove head-​first into the wedding planning industry. I volunteered my time for several brides those first few months and after deciding that I loved it, incorporated my little business and dedicated myself to helping other couples. After my own wedding I knew first-​hand what kind of value a wedding day coordinator could provide. I was lucky enough to hire my own staff for my big day! Knowing that someone else was worrying about all the little details allowed me to relax and enjoy the time I had with my family, friends, and new husband. Plus I got to see that our event planning team really did know their stuff and provided a wonderful service on the wedding day. Wish is coming up on it’s 5^th anniversary and I couldn’t have asked for a better career.
