I don’t know how I managed to stay with this bank for nearly 20 years. The «breaking point» came when due to relocation I had to travel 9 miles to the nearest HSBC branch in Reston. It was not worth it!
The managers are cold and unfriendly and constantly «out to lunch». The tellers are all smiles, but clueless! Three weeks ago, I travelled to the branch to close all my accounts. I did not want to do it over the phone because I wanted to make sure everything was done properly. I withdrew my money from 4 accounts and asked to close the accounts. Yesterday, I went online to check on the accounts only to find out that the account were NEVER closed and I was being charged $ 20 fees for «not maintaining the monthly balance» on the accounts!!! It put negative balance on the accounts and went to overdraft accounts which I told the bank rep to close as well. I called the branch three times today and the phone just kept ringing. Nobody bothered to answer the phone during regular business hours. I finally called the 800 number for HSBC and spent 45 mins on the phone explaining to the rep that the accounts were supposed to be closed weeks ago and I should not have incurred any charges. The rep remedied the situation, apologized but had no explanation why the Reston branch teller did not do what I requested her to do.
Stay away from this bank, particularly this branch. I am sure there are many, many other banks that will be happy to take your money and provide the quality service you deserve.

So happy we no longer do any business with Hsbc. Pulled all accounts and even closed credit cards with them. This is truly a bank we love to hate. And now we’re hearing about money laundering?! Shocker! I was wondering how they paid for premium property yet I hardly ever saw any other customers there.
