Chesapeake Chocolates

This is the best specialty chocolate shop in the area and the owner is so nice! For the quality you’re getting, the cost is lower than places of comparable quality. The sizes of the chocolates are nice so you can get quite a variety in a ½ lb box. I stop in regularly for myself but have also given many boxes as gifts.
The adjacent florist recently closed so the chocolate shop has expanded with wine and beer and gift items. I bet she can make an awesome gift basket now!

We visited this place today to start off our summer time tour of chocolatiers in the local area. But small, but had plenty to choose from. We purchased a ½ lb of chocolate (4 pieces for each of us — family of 4), so we got about 16 different kinds/​pieces of chocolate yumminess. We thoroughly enjoyed every piece so far. The owner was very nice. We will definitely be back.

I go Chesapeake Chocolates at Lake Anne for every special occasion … the chocolate is a bit pricey but definitely worth it, and make wonderful gifts. I take them to people’s houses instead of a bottle of wine, and everyone loves them. There are delicious variations including a wonderful variety of truffles, nut clusters, caramelized ginger and other fruits, and playful shapes for the season and others. Move over, Godiva … I highly recommend this boutique chocolate shop!

These are pretty pricey chocolates and the quality doesn’t match the cost. They are good, but not great.

I think I’m looking for a chocolatier heaven that doesn’t exist. This place is also pretty small. I’d suggest that if you buy in bulk during high-​demand seasons (V-​day, winter holidays, mother’s day), order in advance instead of walking in. During rush season expect at least a three-​day lead time depending on their mail orders status (priority mail only to ensure freshness of product, no shipments June-​September to avoid heat). They consider shapes on demand.
Once my wallet recovers from the holidays I’ll be coming back here to try their chocolate turtles and chocolate covered blueberry clumps. They have a single-​bookshelf selection of wine available, labeled within days of arrival, and share their sectioned space with an unassociated florist. Basically your one-​stop shop for «Oh god I angered the missus, must make up for it!»
