Dr. Zdenek is an Ophthalmologist who diagnosis and treats eye conditions and diseases. Everything from your annual eye exam, glasses and contact lens prescriptions to diabetic and Plaquenil exams, LASIK and Cataract Surgery. Dr. Zdenek also has a shop, Optical Reflections, which specializes in Prescription Glasses, Sun Glasses & Contact Lenses. A wide range of designers, colors & styles for Men, Women & Children.

History

Established in 1981.

Dr. Zdenek opened his own private practice in 1981 and has been treating eyeballs ever since. Dr. Zdenek started Canoga Park Hospital and his father started Northridge Hospital. Dr. Z opened his own Surgery Center in 1987 so that his patients would not have to go to a hospital for eye surgery. He opened Optical Reflections Boutique in 1994 to help his patients get better quality glasses for a good price. He is constantly getting complaints about lens crafters and Costco so he is happy to offer his patients great quality glasses with fashion & style

I have 5 grown children and 5 wonderful grandchildren. I love ‘MacGyvering” everything… except eyeballs! I started off as an electrical engineer before I went to Medical School so I learned early on how to problem solve and become a handyman. I love traveling and politics learning! I am always reading the latest journals and studies and finding more ways to improve my life and my patients eyeballs. I love teaching my patients about their eyes. I have found that most patients who come into my office have very little knowledge about what is going on with their eyes and even the rest of their body. I enjoy talking about medicine and educating anyone who wants to learn.

This is my second year coming here and i love it. I referred my husband who was trying to find new glasses. We went to another place in sherman oaks for years, but always got my frames from a different place since their selection was over priced. I found a frame from MN, and moved here and wanted to stick to the same frame. As you get older you want to stick to the same thing. creatures of habit, anyway, i searched for the frame and alas found this place carried or could order my frame in. Went there and never looked back. The the services rendered were exceptional. Dr is so friendly, and professional. Great selection for my husband who was struggling prior. Will keep going here. Staff is amazing.

2 years ago After moving out to the valley I found zdnek eye institute. Decided to go into dr. z’s office when I needed new contacts rather then driving to west Hollywood. After informing me old ones (from a different eye dr) was causing my eyes to always be red due to rubbing and actually hurting my vision. So after getting new lenses eyes haven’t been red .and vision is great. Office/​staff is clean friendly and informative

The first time we came to this office a year ago was very good. We liked the doctor, the receptionists and professional equipment. However, this year it was a different story. First, I believe I was overcharged for the copay of my contact lens exam, but didn’t make a big deal out of it. Then, we had to deal with the cataract surgery for my husband and it was a whole different story. The most important part is that technitian who did the test, did something wrong to the good eye and my husband was in a lot of pain. His eye was inflamed and I took him back to the office. The doctor of course had to cover for his emploiyee, put some ointment and a patch. The eye was still in bad shape. My husband went to another eye doctor and he prescribed some drops that helped. We also found out that even though the doctor is in network for our insurance, his surgicenter in the same building is not and we’ll have to come up with the facility amount out of pocket. We subsequently went to another doctor where everything is covered and they appear to be more professional.
People, this is a warning. Be very careful about this doctor’s office. Hope nothing bad happens to you over there!

Great Doctor, watch out for the price.
They tell you one thing over the phone and then charge you REDICULOUS!!! amount through your insurance.
I’m sure there are many other doctors that are good and they have reasonable prices.

We had an emergency situation with my husband’s eye on the day after Christmas and phoned around to various ophthalmologists only to find most closed. But Dr. Zdenek and his very nice staff were open for business and got us in right away. The doctor eased our fears with his capable good humor and took care of the problem quickly and painlessly. The office is comfortable and well-​equipped (to my untrained eyes.) There is free parking in the lot behind the building. Only deducted one star because we still had to wait about 20 minutes past the appointment time (after filling out a very extensive set of forms) even though we had only just called to come in.

I may be biased because I’m Doctor Zdenek’s son, but I have witnessed the work he has done over the last 25 years and talked with, literally, hundreds of patients. They all love his work and grateful for the time he takes with each patient. He is an old school doctor with respect to the time and attention he gives but very new school when it comes to technology and knowing the newest procedures. See for yourself!
