TLC’s Inclusive Preschool is leading the way in demonstrating the opportunities available to children who have multiple disabilities and their typically developing peers. We provide a vibrant learning environment for our children.
TLC’s Inclusive Preschool allows children to explore learning in a stimulating, interactive environment, so that each child’s potential can be fully realized. Each child is encouraged to have a lifelong joy for learning and respect for others.
Our program is focused on these guiding principles:
High Scope Curriculum
Relationships are central
Play is a primary context for learning
Learning is integrated
Intentional teaching enhances children’s learning experiences
Individualization of learning includes ALL children.
We monitor a child’s specific needs in conjunction with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Typically developing students and special needs students will benefit from our teachers of the visually impaired and the influence of child development specialists and therapists.
History
Established in 1975.
Therapeutic Living Centers for the Blind (TLC) was founded by Bernice and Seymour Pearlman in 1975 at a time when programs and services for their multi-disabled blind son were nonexistent. Mr. & Mrs. Pearlman, along with a small group of other families, were determined that the status quo could not continue. It was through this diligence and determination that TLC was founded. Through their diligence and determination they made it happen by personally signing the note on the first TLC home.
Caring for the lifetime needs of adults and children with these complicated issues is our ongoing mission. We want to ensure that each individual achieves their highest level of independence and develops a sense of security and well being.
