My 42 years as a guitar and bass teacher have impressed me with the need to provide a well rounded approach to playing. Too many guitar teachers ignore the important tool of reading music, and those that do sometimes do so at the expense of spontaneity. Both of these aspects are important and neither should be ignored. I believe that I offer the most comprehensive approach so the student can apply it to whatever style of music they like, I can help anyone be a better guitar player, but I specialize in helping people who think they can’t play to learn that they can.

History

Established in 1979.

I taught for over 5 years at Lyon & Healy in Chicago, and when my wife Diane and I moved to the West Coast I decided to teach private lessons on my own. I taught and performed in San Diego for 34 years and have recently relocated to Renton WA. Over the years I have given over 20,000 lessons to students of all ages and musical tastes.

I teach private lessons in my home studio in Renton WA by appointment. I began playing bass guitar in 1968 and guitar in 1970, and have been teaching private lessons for over 42 years. I graduated with a Bachelor of Sciences from Shimer College in Mt. Carroll, IL, in 1970, and went on the road playing in rock bands After playing in several bands from Washington DC to Miami I ended up in Chicago, where I continued to play in bands and began my teaching career. My wife Diane and I formed the flute and guitar band «YOURSELF» when we arrived in San Diego. Starting in 1998 and through 2014, we hosted and performed on «YOURSELF presents», a platform for local original music which can be viewed on YouTube by searching under my name.
