When I think of how much money I could have saved, had I not come here multiple times a week for several weeks in a row, all I can think about it how worth it was. The sushi chefs here are some of the coolest I’ve ever come across. They will make you a custom roll of your liking if you aren’t feeling one of their rolls or if you simply want to try something new! I definitely recommend.

I’ve been to Sushi Minato twice and both times I was absolutely blown away by the freshness of their fish and the wide variety of yummy flavors available. Of course I love their rolls, but let’s talk about their Nigiri… Their Mickey Mouse is all I could ever want out of life! Do yourself a favor and order it! There are raw rolls, cooked rolls, fried rolls, and even baked rolls. Each roll has unique flavors and they are all pulled together well. I really feel that Sushi Minato is some of the best sushi that the Biggest Little City has to offer. For $ 17.95 for lunch AYCE and $ 24.95 for dinner AYCE, your money will be well spent. So why not 5 stars? Unfortunately on my most recent visit the experience wasn’t up to par. We were one of three tables present and there were two waitresses working. The chefs forgot about 2 rolls that we ordered. We told the waitress about them, she asked the chef and we sat there… waiting… nothing happened. She brings us a new order sheet after about 10 minutes and we ask about the two rolls. She said«okay,» talked to the chef again, and again… nothing happened. After ordering another round, we still didn’t see the 2 missing rolls so we asked the waitress again and told her not to worry about it and that we would just order them the next round. Forgetting 2 rolls isn’t at all a big deal, but I would have appreciated that being communicated instead of sitting there waiting for so long. In addition, we waited quite a while for small things(water to be refilled, sushi to be transported from the counter to the table, for a new order sheet, etc.) For only having three tables, I felt that the waitress could have done a far better job communicating with us and also paying attention to each table. I’m really hoping that I can update my review after my next visit to five stars!

One of my students at work recommended Minato as their favorite in town, so we had to try. Super tasty fresh fish, good variety and courteous staff. We will definitely be back!

This has to be one of my favorite sushi joints in Reno. There are A TON of All-You-Can-Eat sushi places in Reno. Which, being a native of California, is totally weird. Since I’ve been visiting Reno(and now living here) I’ve been dipping my toes in the AYCE sushi experience. And so far this has been my favorite spot! The fish is fresh, the service was really efficient and friendly, and the rolls were artfully made. I feel like Minato is set apart from some of the other AYCE sushi places here that stuff crystal shrimp into every roll and use way too much rice. I’m definitely a fan!

When your chefs are korean. that’s a huge plus. The rice is perfectly cooked. Free sake with ace and it’s yummy. Not the cheap stuff. Everything is fresh and fast served! I am happy I found my new sushi place. Scrumptious! !! :) :) :)

Minato’s used to be a top AYCE sushi joint before moving locations. Sadly I am no longer impressed. Sushi is decent but there are plenty of other places to eat in town. The bento boxes are a great lunch meal. A plus is that the bento box is quite large so you’ll definitely be full leaving this place! There’s a variety of food: entrée, rice, potstickers, seafood ball, tempura, salad, and sushi roll. I love the bentos, but if you’re on a tight lunch schedule this place is not for you. On multiple occasions the wait staff seemed lazy… Hate giving this place a not-so-great review, but my experience at Minato’s has been unimpressive since my first visit.

Best sushi restaurant in Reno! Amazingly fresh sushi for a great price. The wait staff is attentive & the chefs always get creative with the rolls if you ask. All in all makes for a fun & delicious place to go out for sushi for lunch or dinner!

I recently visited with friends after a hike. Needless to say, I was starving and eager to replenish my calories. Rumor was. they’ve changed their menu and lowered the price. I don’t have a way of comparing because I’ve never been until this visit. I’m sorry I wouldn’t be able to review each dish. I was busy eating and visiting and kinda neglected my Unilocal duties. But in general, I say the place was nice and clean. The servers were friendly and fast! And the sushi creations were delish. I especially liked the chef’s choice(s). They just kept showing up on the table, which was fun because I couldn’t be bothered to order, haha. They also had their version of the kama, and though it was good, I’ve had better. Or maybe I lost my sense of taste since I had it towards the end when I was just about to call it quits. Overall, a good sushi experience. I might come back and actually pay attention to what I’m eating. I’ll update my review then.

Went there last Friday and ordered the cucumber salad, rainbow roll and a salmon hand roll. This is my go to safe order when I try a sushi place. Not a fan of hot sushi. It was 7:30 and it wasn’t packed. Very good service. Was alone and they have me a table and not grudgingly as if. Oh great you alone will take up one of our tables. The sushi was ok. They serve the rainbow with roe. Should have looked on menu more as I’m not a fan of roe. But it was fresh and a normal size. The salmon hand roll was good as well. The sunamono salad. Meh. Price ok. 23.00 including a green tea. Could have had the all you can eat and it would have been he same price. But that was all I could eat. Overall my favorite place is Wasabi. Better presentation and prices more competitive.

Sushi Minato, would you open a location in the Bay Area? We had the all you can eat sushi and it was stellar! The sushi was delicious, the price was reasonable, service was GREAT! They kept our tea and iced tea topped off and frequently asked if we wanted more sushi. Their location has plenty of parking and is in a better location than the older location. All you can eat includes appetizers, soup, salad, edamame, calamari, raw sushi rolls, cooked sushi rolls, baked sushi rolls and desserts.

A really well-done all you can eat sushi spot in Reno. The fish quality and free hot sake(Mon-Thurs) are what really sets this place apart. The friendly service, normal $ 25ish dinner price, and casual atmosphere are fortunately pretty standard in similar restaurants. There’s a nice variety of rolls here, including classics and interesting new twists(habanero sushi, anyone?). Most rolls in Reno are pretty cream cheese– and imitation crab-laden, and Minato’s rolls are no exception. That seems to be predominately what people here want(and they’re cheaper for AYCE to survive) so I can’t hold that against Minato, but I would love some more creative mostly-fish rolls. Again, the fish here was very nice, easily as good as Hiroba. I’m more of a sashimi enthusiast, and with sushi have been known(gasp!) to discard the rice and eat the goodies on more than one occasion. Not a thing you can do with AYCE, but I didn’t need to with the nigiri here. There’s a large piece of fish and a small mound of rice, which is exactly what I want! Is it authentic? Who cares, it’s delicious. Try the jalapeño appetizer… I thought these would be your average out-of-the-freezer deep-fried jalapeños, but they were fresh, crunchy, delicious bites. We had at least 4 orders! The baked roll we had was super weird… If you love cream cheese and imitation crab, you’ll probably find these absolutely divine. I found it unappealing. Overall, this is probably the AYCE spot I will come back to most often, due to the superior fish quality and attention to detail. The free hot sake is a nice touch, too!

I had a great experience in sushi minato on valentine’s day. All servers were very attentive and the food came out fast even though it was really busy. Their fish was fresh and roll were very creative. Also they use ceramic dishes unlike other sushi restaurant in town.

Only reason I’m giving 4 stars is they had no bar but sapporo and saki were available, but 03 big white boys drank several beers and ate sushi until we were gorged for 150.00 so 50 bucks per person to drinks beers and eat sushi until you can’t move for 50 bucks. Amazing and it was tasty!!!

Tonight, was not a very pleasant experience with the waitress. They seem very irritated that we were all there. They should be more happy that we chose to go there despite of the snow storm. One of the waitress even said«Can you finish all of that?» We were surprise that she even ask that. That’s why it’s called«All you can eat sushi, right? and not just that, do not ever ask a customer if they can finish their food. That is so wrong and very sensitive to some people that just wants to go to a place like that and eat their heart out. lol Well for sure we will not be going to that place again. We get better service somewhere else. Ciao!

This place is okay, great service, nice people, and the sushi was okay, not the best, but also wasnt the worst I’ve had. Came here this weekend on 1÷22÷16 and had the AYE and wasnt all that amazed. 1) There is a limit on the amount of Mussels and desserts you can order(annoying if you’re a mussel lover and your’e paying for AYE). Also, the mussels are perfectly placed on top of a mussel shell, but definitely not fresh, they almost tasted like the frozen kind you can get at Costco, they didnt taste bad, but there are other places in town that you can find REAL mussels. 2) They have very unique menu items, and are very accommodating to any requested changes and/or special requests on rolls. Overall, this is a nice place, reasonable prices, great customer service, but I probably wont be going back, i feel like there are a few other places in Reno I would prefer before this one.

I probably should have taken a picture of the $ 25 #sashimi platter I just devoured because they always say, «Pics or it didn’t happen.» Well I’m here to tell you it happened and it only took like 20 minutes, mainly because I refrained from inhaling this beast. The platter was about 18″ in diameter, with a base layer of shredded daikon and beets, shiso leaves and spring mix. To some this may seem like just decorations, but to someone on a diet, this is salvation! Add a dash of soy(or coconut aminos in my case), some wasabi and whatever other seasonings you care for, and you’ve got a wonderful salad to go with your sashimi, the main attraction. Lemme tell you about this sashimi. The $ 25 platter comes with 20 hefty slices of real select seafood. I enjoyed some salmon belly, yellowtail, and beautifully blood red tuna, as well as octopus, shrimp, snapper and Japanese sea bream or Madai. It’s a beautiful assortment, and all of it exceptionally fresh and tasty. Minato’s was the best sashimi platter I’ve had thus far, and I dare say Id love another one soon! I’ve gotten so used to spending $ 20-$ 25 on AYCE sushi, typically gorging myself until I need to be rolled out the door, but discovering these sashimi platters around town has taught me I can satisfy my cravings with a whole lot less guilt, for the same amount or less. Next time I’ll take a picture, but I suggest you go see this platter for yourself!

Every time I come into Reno, I try to get AYCE sushi at least once during my trip. I am from the bay area and we really don’t get AYCE. If you can find a place the quality is usually trash. The rolls are typically $ 15 each which is $ 5 short of the AYCE lunch price of most places in Reno. The difference with Reno AYCE sushi vs bay area AYCE sushi is pretty significant. Reno AYCE sushi quality(for the most part), is average quality of fish in the bay area. It’s good, you enjoy it, it fixes your craving, and you can stuff your face. There’s obviously some really good places in the bay area for sushi that are far and away better as well, but I’m talking about your average place. This was my first time at this location. I have gone to the previous location once and enjoyed it, so after arriving in town I wanted to give the new location a shot. It’s easier to get to, nicer, and bigger. I can see why they moved. I did a lot of damage here. I was starving from that long drive and being up early. Started out with grilled mussles, than on to nigiri to taste the actually quality without sauces covering them all up. I have to say it’s right there with Hiroba for the nigiri. One thing about that place though, other than the long line, e is while i really liked there nigiri, i hated there roll selection. Anyways back to Minato. After getting past the nigiri, it’s time to glance over the roll selection to which I ended up with the Minato roll and 11am(guy next to me seemed like a regular and ordered it off the bat, figure a regular would know what the best rolls were). The Minato was interesting having fried onions and i think garlic to on it. Pretty good, but don’t know if it would be a regular roll I got. The 11am was fairly basic, but tasty. Imagine a shrimp tempura roll, with a thin lemon slice hidden by avocado and I think hamachi? and avocadi. Not much sauce, so the flavors of the fish came through. I glanced over the menu a bit more and noticed you can choose one premium item as well with your AYCE order. I opted for the Hirame, which was good, but regret not getting the monk fish liver after seeing it and seeing the regular next to me order it. It looked identical to foie gras which I love and had to ask him about it. Turns out my guess was right, he described it exactly to foie gras. That will be a must try my next trip. After that back to more nigri so I don’t waste room on so much rice and end with dessert which is included. I see a lot of people complaining about this location who were regulars at the other. I can’t comment on that since I only went once, but so far it seems improved over the older location to me. The location, building is better, the quality is still great, and I don’t remember being able to have a premium item last time I went, so that was a nice touch. I’m not sure where it ranks compared to The Joint, Sushi Pier, Kokopelli, Hiroba, and Reef, but I would say it’s on the higher end of that list.

This hidden gem is now my new favorite go to place for sushi! I was a little uncertain going here at lunch since I had to be back within an hour for a meeting and typically an AYCE sushi lunch can go more towards 1.5 hours. Well this place was on it’s game for sure! Our group of 4 was seated immediately and our drink order taken. before we even had a chance to finish filling in the ticket for what we wanted, our drinks were already on the table. We ordered about 6 long rolls(one of them cooked) and 10 orders of nigiri, along with a couple appetizers. It couldn’t have been more than a few minutes and they already started to bring out the nigiri(before the appetizers were ready). within a few more minutes the rolls started to come out, and within 10 minutes we had all the food we had ordered filling up our table. Outstanding! I have never had sushi brought out so quickly before. Everything tasted and smelled really fresh. I love that they have a good mix of the rolls and appetizers, not just the same old stuff like other places(salmon, cream cheese, jalepeno). The Calamari appetizer is a must. The Firecracker roll is amazing. Needless to say, we were fed, happy and on our way out in about 50 minutes, perfect to be able to get back to the office for my meeting. I will definitely be coming back.

Love their new location, some of the best sushi in town. Normally we go to Hiroba because it’s closer to home but that place gets way too crowded. The ambiance is fresh and airy, overall a good choice for ayce!

Can I say that this is the best sushi place I’ve ever been to, considering all the things you’re looking for in an AYCE sushi? Perfect rice to meat portion, rice texture and taste, freshest fish, high quality seafood/meat, awesome appetizer/dessert selections, unending possibilities for sushi combos, reasonable prices, and most of all, excellent customer service!!! They would go over and beyond(especially the owner and chefs) to meet your expectations. I wish all restaurants would run like how Minato does!

I went to the new location for the first time last night and I was very impressed. The special that’s going on right now is $ 24.95 all you can eat sushi and also all you can drink hot saki and beer. It was a great deal! There are sushi rolls at this restaurant that I had never had before and they were delicious! One roll called the Washington has some sort of apple sauce on top of the sushi and another roll had crunched up potato chips on top. Now that may sound weird coming from traditional sushi places but both were very delicious and they have all the regular sushi rolls as well. The staff here is what makes this place great. Our rolls came out faster here than any all you can eat place I’ve been to, and I’ve been to pretty much every sushi place in and around Reno. Our waitress was great and always made sure that we had saki and beer in front of us. I will definitely be going back here and it might end up turning into my favorite sushi place!

This was our second stop on the sushi tour. I had read many great reviews and wanted to give it a go. I had visited their previous location once. We went on a Friday around 11:30 for all you can eat sushi lunch. We opted for this of course based on the price to roll to stomach to eye ratio. We really enjoyed the quick service. The waters were always more than half full. Everyone working there was super upbeat and inviting. The first 5 – 7 dishes and appetizers were awesome. It started to get pretty busy and then one of the rolls was not on point. I really enjoyed the flavor combinations and the variety of options I had. They were not all the same and the fish variety was nice too. I’d come back and would try dinner next time to compare and access the dinner menu!

Friend and I used to be die hard Sushi Pier fans, but recently, when I offered to take her out to sushi, she said she wanted to eat at Sushi Minato.(«WTF!» «Sushi Pier sucks now!» «Don’t talk crazy like that.» «It’s true… you just can’t see it yet.») So begrudgingly I agreed to abandon my regular haunt for a night and try Sushi Minato. I have to admit… it WAS good. I don’t know, though, if what I was pleased with was just the fact that I was able to try something different… something new, something exciting. They have a really nice variety of flavors here that you don’t see in a lot of the AYCE sushi places in town. I think that if we had sat at the bar, I would have been able to appreciate this variety a bit more, one at a time, rather than the rapid influx of food you get with table service. As others have mentioned, though, the bar here is really small, which is a problem for people(like me) who prefer bar service. I will definitely be trying Sushi Minato again, since Friend turned out to be right after all. My initial reaction was that it is good, but not GREAT. I’m in a transitionary period now, though, and I hope that Sushi Minato isn’t just my rebound sushi joint.

I fell in love with Sushi Minato at their previous location. This was my first visit to the new location and I still love them. Food was just as good if not better by adding some new menu items(e.g. baked rolls!) and the atmosphere was WAY better. Some folks have written about poor service and even food quality in the early days of the new location, but they must have worked all that out because my visit today was exceptional. Very nice seating area now, with plenty of room and comfort. Service was fast, friendly, and attentive. Tai was working today so of course the rolls were phenomenal. This is still my go-to sushi place in Reno. Still highly recommend.

New location + New menu + New supplier = time for me to update my review! I am going to say that new doesn’t always mean better. My wife and I have been patrons at the old location for several years now. It had become our favorite sushi spot and everyone found out about it! This place blossomed almost overnight and became really hard to get into so I was thrilled to hear they were opening a new and bigger location… until I actually ate here. True the new location is bigger than the old location but there are less seats at the bar and quite a few more tables. Unfortunately there are about the same amount of chefs as the last place and since this one is so much bigger you wait a lot longer for your food. Since they got a new supplier everything just tastes different and not in a good way. The rice was overly mushy and almost soggy. The fish didn’t taste as fresh and many of my favorites from the old menu were gone. I hate when places do this. I fell in love with items on the menu and these were the reason I continued to come to this spot. The server was nice enough to ask the chef if items from the old menu could still be made. The chef said no problem, however the new supplier meant my old rolls didn’t taste the same. They weren’t as good as they used to be AND they cost quite a bit more. The quality just isn’t there any longer. I miss being able to go in, have chefs that recognized us, who remembered what we liked and didn’t like. There used to be a great report between the customer and business. I didn’t feel that at all in the new location. Our waitress was frantic and honestly admitted it was her third day working. I felt bad for her because she did not seem to be trained on the menu, the process, or just about anything she needed to know. She tried her best though. We left feeling incredibly disappointed in our meal and this new location. Honestly, we won’t be returning to Sushi Minato anymore and that makes me really sad because I liked being a regular here. It’s time for me to find a new favorite sushi spot.

New spot. I like it. Larger and more modern decore. The bar seems a few seats smaller, but the entire space is better. The menu has changed, no longer a book to page thru. It’s now an 8×10 two sided menu divided into raw, baked, appetizers and dessert sections. There are some old favorites and some very interesting new rolls and appetizers. For a Saturday night we had great table service, drinks always full and food arrived quite quickly. The only complaint any of us mentioned is there are no plates to put you sushi on and the tables have a little too much stuff in the middle to put the larger plates there to share from. Oh well, you just pass the plates around more. Prices did seem go up slightly $ 25 for AYCE dinner. Still one of my tops in favorite sushi spots in town.

I think I found my new favorite sushi joint here in reno!!! Yay! So yes I’ve lived here my whole life so I’ve been to almost every sushi place you can think of here in reno. There has been good ones but the original owners left and they got bought from others and it just went down hill. But not sushi minato. It seems like it got better. I went here before and there were different workers and sushi chefs. Eh, oh well. As long as the sushi is amazing! We went here the other day and I’ve been dying to go back. They serve the nigiri perfectly with a good portion size of fish to rice. I mean come on people. Over stuffing it with rice is so over rated! Is it going to save that much money? Probably not. But sushi minato does it right on key. They have there special nigiri pieces also. Ohhhh my wow, the uni is amazing. And there were two other ones we tried but don’t know the names. Hehe only know the korean names to them. Well we will be back there again tomorrow and more and more and more. Thank you to the young owner and his partner Godzilla!

It’s time for an update. We went to the new location to check out just how well they did in the move. We hit them right in the middle of a 12:30 lunch rush. Michael T. was coming to join us at about 12:45 so we wanted to get there a little early to get our names in for the bar. It didn’t really help much, they only have like 8 – 10 seats at the bar. I haven’t heard of a restaurant reducing their size on a move to another location. But these guys did just that. Probably a reduction of up to 5 seats. So we walked in just as a group was being sat. When we finally were seated… we sat in their seats! Yep the bar is that small. But that was ok… we didn’t have any push for time. When we sat, Michael T is well known in these parts and the Chef remembered my name too, we were started on a quick regimen of goodness. And my goodness it was good. Usually we focus on the raw because that is just what we like… but the new Menu has so much new baked stuff and cooked stuff we had to try as much as we could. The baked section was good, but these rolls might be harder to share for groups that aren’t super comfortable. The rolls are cooked and the stick together and fall apart. This is NOT a complaint, it’s just a warning. They were all very good. I especially liked the Pizza roll. The best thing I had this time was the yooki, yuki, uke, I have no idea how he spelled it. But it was salmon with some ginger and some sort of sauce on top. Just wowfreakingawesomeamazing for my mouth. I could just eat a whole batch of these. I was able to get a nice bottle of cold unfiltered Sake. Exactly what I needed and it hit the sport perfectly. We walked out full and happy. So a few notes… Don’t go right at peak time and expect them to sit you at the bar. We didn’t sit at a table so we don’t know how well the tables are served. If you can wait til 2ish you can probably get in pretty easily. When you do go… you will probably see 20 people you know. We did. Parking sucks compared to their old place. This mall probably has the worst parking lot in the city. Still easily top 3 sushi places. See you there! Yes, that’s me sitting there waiting for the bar.
