Steak ‘n Shake

I was here for the grand opening and again recently. Both times were OK. Service is pretty friendly and the fries are bomb. Actually so are the shakes. But something in the burger is lacking and I can’t exactly point it out. May be under seasoning or the burgers just don’t live up to the hype? My last burger was a Patty melt and it was underwhelming. It wasn’t bad, it just didn’t hit the spot. I won’t drive out of my way to eat here but if I’m in the neighborhood, it’s best available option.

The service is not usually very good, but once in a while you’ll get great service… BUT we LOVE the food! Love the season fries, and the pepper sauce you can drip on everything… So yummy!

Great place to sit down and enjoy a real burger and shake. I loved it! The owner came around and thanked me which was a very nice touch. The waitstaff was very friendly and the prices are reasonable.

Four stars at a fast food level. Much better than the compitition. The burgers are really good. Great flavor and cooked right. The slight crust on the outside of the burger and the juicy flavors inside. Yum! The fries are good. They’re shoestring style and offer a variety of flavors. Just a bit too much seasoning for my taste. I’ll ask hem to scale back next time. My daughter had the chicken sandwich and said it was good. You have to wait a bit longer than the McKings… but Worth the wait.

I have gone to Steak and Shake twice and one time I had ok service and the second time I had terrible service. Food is ok at this location but my main complaint was the service. I understand it is not necessarily a fast food joint but the service was awful. Do not go through the drive through unless you are ready to be there for a while. Once I hear that the service has improved I would like to try again, but until then I will not be going back to this location.

The food was good as usual. But it makes it hard to enjoy even good food when the facility is dirty. The walls, the floors, the tables, the table advertisements, the seating, kitchen, bathrooms. Everything is either dirty or has been wiped with a dirty rag. This could be an easy fix if they get on it.

Ate here recently and I can see why this establishment has the ratings that it does. Even though this is a east coast favorite, I wasn’t that impressed with my mushroom burger, fries, and heath bar shake. I was a bit confused when I went in to order as there was someone there to seat you in what looked like an obvious fast food place; where you go up to the counter and paid and waited. My burger was the best part and actually a step up from the regular fast food burger you would get at a similar establishment. The fries are shoestring-​type and were crispy the whole way through which is not my preference. My shake tasted like a regular vanilla shake with a miniscule bit of candy bar sprinkled on it. Since this is so out of my way, I am not sure that I would visit again. On my way out, I noticed that the Taco Bell nearby was busier than this place, which tells you something.

First time here and won’t be coming back. The service is terrible.
Got asked if we needed anything else and I asked for ranch. And the waitress started to walk away while my friend went to ask for something.
She then came back 30seconds and asked again if we needed anything and I asked for ranch again. The waitress was training but she seemed to have attitude and never seem to smile.
No one greeted us when we walked in. They sat us at a dirty table.
The food wasn’t that great. I had the double bacon burger and asked to add lettuce. They put half a piece of lettuce.
My friend got the guacamole burger and it had what looked like half a table spoon of guacamole on it. So we had to ask for more.

This place is just alright. Nothing special about it. I order the $ 4 deal. It gives you a burger fries and a drink otherwise it’s a bit pricey for a burger that tastes like its from jack in the box.

If I could leave no stars I would. Worst services of my life. I drove all the way from south reno off double r to eat there and they acuse us of having a fake bill. the fat boss yells in my face and the little 12 year old at the register says there’s no line in my bill so I point it out to her and the main manager comes over and says Oh well its fake and trys to keep it. So 15 mins later still waiting in the drive through! The head manager finally comes to the window yelling is there a problem? I say yes I want my money back so I can leave this fucked up place. He checks the bill and it’s fine yet they still don’t want to give back the money. I finally get it back and tell him how far I drove and I don’t get a sorry for anything. Just a remark. Well it looked a little darker. I mean really? I will never go there again
For one I think we should have got our food for free. Will never go there again.

Manager must be sick? High? Dead?
Inept teenage staff with zero customer service or the ability to greet using traditional formats like «hello» & «how are you» — instead we got «how old is your baby?»
There was a pubic hair on our table.
Our meal was sub-​par. I mean, I get it — it’s fast food. But I ordered a chicken sandwich and got chicken, bread, and a single, lugified lettuce leaf. My wife’s burger was just as lame.
We were told this place was «comparable to In N Out» — Nope. In N Out kicks the crap out of this place.

i’m reviewing Steak and shake as a fast food restaurant and compared to other fast food restaurants i would give it 5 stars.
When they very first opened the line to wait for a table or for their drive through was just INSANE. but months later it calmed down and its very reasonable.
Super delicious shakes !! really really good. lots of tasty burger options, a fun «50’s» theme going on inside, you can see almost the entire kitchen area, which i really like. not sure how high of expectations one should have for Fast Food, but if you keep the fast food in mind this place will amaze you. and it’s all Steak burgers (what kind of steaks? i dunno)
fun décor inside, very friendly /​helpful wait staff. I’ve gone in with a toddler several times and they are always very helpful to get us a high chair, an extra drink /​towels if my young daughter spills. etc.

I was seated at the counter so I could see into the kitchen. Azhleigh took my order right away. Food came out hot and delicious. Everyone on the staff was friendly and courteous. And I love the shakes. There half off between 2 and 4 pm Monday thru Friday.

Wasn’t expecting a sit down restaurant! Beautiful décor, very Diner style! We were greeted upon entering and sat right away. Their menu is basically burgers and salads. I didn’t really get to look throughly but I saw a variety of burgers and salads at VERY cheap prices! Wasn’t expecting that neither! Service was excellent throughout, everyone was so nice and helpful in answering our questions, and service was timely throughout.
We ordered 2 burger meals, 3 kids meals and 2 kids shakes, 1 adult shake and also came during happy hour with shakes and drinks half off! Our total was only $ 24.xx!!! I couldn’t believe it. I had the Cajun burger with a garden salad, burger was moist and delicious, I added, Lett, tom, onion, pick, and did it protein style. It was sooooo good. The meat was moist and juicy and perfectly seasoned. Salad was fresh and dressing was good too. The kids meals were good, steak cheeseburgers, so yummy. The buns were soft and warm and lightly toasted. My husbands burger was really good too, it was some cheese and bacon double burger.
You get your receipt and pay at the register. It was great, delicious, very affordable and great service for the price and kind of food they served! We will definitely visit again when we are in town again!

Please go elsewhere!!!
This place has disappointed for the past year after trying and trying again!
Shakes are ok prob the best thing they have going. The burgers are small and nothing special, they never filled me up or are very good. Breakfast finally came along and they are out of biscuits 2 out of my 3 tries… very weak steak and shake. Would like to see this business close and a new one take over after giving them a year to straighten everything out and still disappointing. Please steer clear and try one of the many other burger joints in the area with better service. Looking for a great burger try the Hometown Café!!! Don’t waste your money on steak and shake jokers.

The food here is delicious but unfortunately the service at this location is awful everytime. I’m not talking long lines and order errors but just basic customer service. Everyone is always so rude and impatient even though there are usually 15+ people working there. I have actually stopped going here just because of the attitude. If you feel like braving the sass, I recommend the Butter Burger and fresh banana shakes. The flavored fries seem fun but have a distinct chemical taste.

Okay so I’m a huuuuge burger fan but today was my first time at Steak n Shake. My stepmom kept raving about how great they are cuz she grew up eating them in the Midwest. I lightweight thought she was nuts when she said, «I like their burgers way better than In n Out» but it turns out she was RIGHT! Holy cow.
I ordered the original double cheeseburger and was absolutely BLOWN AWAY at how delicious, juicy, and buttery the meat was. It was so flavorful and amazing! Although I do like In n Out’s produce… This burger SLAYED theirs (and many other restaurant quality burgers too). The shake selection was huge and the cookie butter one I had was bomb AF!

Consistency isn’t a word I would use to describe Steak ‘n Shake.
Sometimes I have received good service and other times, fair. The food has always been what I expected for the price. Small portions but the prices are small, therefore, I can’t complain too much.
If you want to save money and like to toss the dice on service, this place will fit the bill.
There were times I’ve been in Steak ‘n Shake and everything I ordered was out of stock or not enough of something to fill the order. Chili was out another. Other times service took so long I thought the server forgot about us! But, it just turned out they were inexperienced or they just didn’t care.
Other times, service was great.
No rhyme nor reason.

Bottom Line
If it wasn’t for the cheap prices and the fact they are located in the North valleys, I wouldn’t come back. Too many other places, even in the North valleys to drop my money that has decent to good service.
But yes, I’m a glutton for punishment and will come back again, each time hoping they fine the consistency they need to operate a business they call Steak ‘n Shake.

I’ve never taken the time to actually dine in, I always hit up the drive-​thru instead. The biggest hassle is the time you spend as you make your way to the final window… it usually takes approximately fifteen minutes. If you’re patient enough, the wait is worth it in my opinion.
I’ve tried a couple of different burgers on the menu and I don’t have really have any complaints. Their burgers are a little on the pricy side and aren’t as big as you’d expect but they sure are tasty. One of the best parts about Steak ‘n Shake is their special seasonings you may request on your french fries. They have quite a few different options… I usually go with the salt and vinegar seasoning. By the time I get home, I find that I’ve already devoured all of my french fries because they’re THAT amazing.
As far as the milkshakes go, I wouldn’t say they’re anything special, taste like a regular milkshake to me. However, they do have more than plenty of flavors to choose from!
