This ones a mess the old one was better. It’s not only that everything is dusty and falling apart. It’s also the real lack of selection.

Wow, what a change from the old vacant hole-in-the-wall that occupied a rather large and cavernous room at this same site for at least the last few years. The shelves were formerly fairly bare and items were sparsely laid out. Today, I walked in there with a donation of used clothing, and was pleasantly surprised that it was full with items I had no time to peruse in the limited time I had. I’ll have to return soon. A few paperback books caught my eye and I set forth reading the titles to myself. I found 4 paperback novels with almost no trying and at 25 cents each, they are a steal. I even found a couple of paperbacks with gentle wear, which to Amazon used books would call good to very good quality at about $ 4 a book.(A few of the paperbacks were loaded into a bin and if I hadn’t already found 4 books to keep myself busy, I’d have looked there as well). There’s still so much to look at in this big store… Furniture, household items, clothing and, of course, books.(Plus, the revenue goes toward taking care of the animals at the shelter on Spectrum Blvd, off 395/580, Parr exit). The thrift store is located away from the animal shelter, in town, off 4th Street and Vine near The Gold Dust West and Round Table pizza.

Woohoo this bargain queen has hit her jackpot! Went for the first time yesterday and again today. I am in town for a quick visit and left my cell phone charger at home. I got 2 at the SPCA thrift store for fifty cents each! Score. I don’t know what it is about Reno, maybe it’s that so many older people come here to retire, but this thrift store had THEBESTSTUFF. I wanted to buy everything but I don’t have room in my bag to haul it all home. A set of pink depression glass was $ 10. Beautiful chaise lounge was only $ 50. I have seen the most gorgeous furniture and crystal here. Milk glass, beautiful collectible teapots, all kinds of silver and stuff for table settings. About 3 cake pop makers. The toys and clothes selection was a little slim, but that’s okay. Pricing is great and the staff was helpful. I scored 12 children’s books for $ 3.00! Left happy. I think my mom is coming back for a rocking chair later on today. It was only $ 20! I definitely will stop by here whenever I am in town.

Susan enjoys shopping at thrift stores and consequently, I shop at them as well. Sometimes you can find something neat and cute if you’re willing to invest the time into poking around. For shopping, this store does have a well organized layout and I actually do find something worth buying every once and awhile. I haven’t tried to negotiate, so I don’t know what their policy on haggling is. The prices are usually marked real low, so haggling isn’t usually necessary. For donating, you just drive up to the front door off of Vine street and drop your stuff in the bin right at the front door. No questions asked, no fuss — just the way I like it. And the cause is worth it. Awwwww, just look at those cute kitties!

I only donate here. Everyone is always so nice! Very organized store. I got a $ 5 end table. Sarah @ Funky Furniture recycled it to my favorite piece. Will be returning soon with a full car load

Like others have mentioned, this place has really gone downhill. Prices have soared since the store was rearranged recently and the new arrangement just feels awkward with many tight aisles and passageways. Cannot believe how furniture prices shot up, especially considering that much of it is worn and/or dirty. But, the real shockers are upstairs in the art room – WOW – the pictures and paintings are soooo overpriced. C’mon, guys, this is a thrift shop!

I used to love this thrift store and would hit it weekly. They have really went down hill the past few months. The prices have gone up and the quality has gone down! It is horrible now, just a bunch of overpriced junk! I heard it got bought out. It is not going to survive these new changes. I won’t be back and I heard the same thing from some other shoppers who were very disappointed by the changes.

Ok, first of all I am a long time thrift store shopper. I have been shopping in thrift stores since I was a little girl with my mom, so I am not judging a thrift store on cleanliness as much as I am on pricing and quality of items the store stocks. Some thrift stores are like little boutiques and some are just like broken down garage sales… either way I enjoy the hunt of great items. I will bypass the look and smell as long as I can find some organization and nice employee’s. SPCA is a great little store that is down from my office and since I eBay a lot, I often find myself at this store. Great location, great hours and most of the times great merchandise. I love that the money is going to help little critters in our area. It has had its turn around in employee’s lately which I seem to miss some of the old employee’s. Everyone seems always nice to deal with but lately I’ve seen that they are pricing some item way too high. I understand that you can have some nice vintage items but really who is going to pay $ 200 for a not in so good shape piece of furniture? The little baby toddler section clothing is 2.00 per piece… yikes! I saw some of the clothing last time and I feel bad for mom’s who are really needing to buy thrift store clothes for their little ones, better off going to walmart. All in all, the store does have some cute items, employee’s seem nice. Just watch out for the pricing… they need to work on how they price some of their stuff… some stuff just isn’t worth what they price it and the stuff they put out cheap are what is actually worth buying… go figure:)

I love the SPCA Thrift Store! They always seem to have something that I didn’t realize I needed, until I saw the price tag :) Seriously though, they support a great cause, and have a wide selection of items including: clothes, books, knick-knacks, large furniture, sporting goods, and pretty much everything else you can think of. I’ve never had an issue with the employees here. They’ve always been courteous and helpful, but I don’t show up right before they close either! I’ve only donated here once, but the guy in charge of donations was quick to help me unload the boxes and write me a receipt. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is that the merchandise can be disorganized and thrown about sometimes, but it’s also understandable when everyone is riffling through them all day.

Great cause and nice selection of items. Some attractive furniture. But the enployees are unpleasant and rough around the edges. Found lovely rocker for $ 45. No help getting through door from employee at front who was not doing anything… but received a hand from customer! Will return since it is all about the animals!

Out of the countless number of second hand stores in Reno, this has to be the cleanest and most organized stores. Almost set up like a major department store with each clothing section easy to find and racks that are a breeze to go thru. There is also a large furniture and home wares area also. The staff has always been very friendly whether dropping of donations or doing some shopping. And the income stays in town for the animals.

Employees in general are miserable. Don’t know if it is personal misery or job-related. Disappointed that there are NEVER any discount days, markdowns, etc as an employee very emphatically told me. Prices are random. Sectional couch(in pretty good condition — $ 200. Plate — $ 20. Bought unique decoration for new home but won’t go back. Other thrift stores are better options for us.

We donate alot of good quality things… some clothes never even warn. Also furniture. not long ago a very nice cedar lined armoir that could hold tv too. ust making changes to our home. Soon a very good quality sofa will be picked up… needs recovering if for very formal house… but will be great as is for a family room. Also long and deep – as an extra guest bed if needed! If I can find a new chair before pickup… a very comfy recliner may go too… its mate was donated awhile back. My point is — its good to check often… as good things there and I would rather SPCA get the $ than take the ½ the stuff would get at Consign Furniture. SPCA — great cause!

LOVELOVELOVE this place! Staff is friendly, and helpful. I bought a huge beautiful solid oak table for $ 125 and a vintage santa Anita pottery service set with lazy Susan for $ 25. Plus a winter jacket for my 2 yr old for $ 4. Great place to find odds and ends!

It’s fantastic that the proceeds from this store benefit animals! I have always found the employees in this store to be courteous. As with any thrift store, the selection varies. I have found many good books here. I also bought a Dana Buchman sweater in perfect condition… I’m sure it was at least $ 30 at Kohls… I got if for either $ 2 or $ 3. I find something I can use each time I go in this store. I also donate to this store and the employees have always been nice about helping unload everything.

THISPLACEISONKEYSTONEANDNOTONTHEADDRESSLISTEDON Unilocal!!! 100% of the proceeds benefit the animals. I was here just to look at furniture. I thought most of the items were reasonably priced. I saw a HUGE stuffed animal of a donkey for $ 5 which I will probably return to buy LOL. For $ 2 I bought an «authentic» Gucci purse(LMAO!!!). I kind of agree on the attitudes of the workers. I entered 10 minutes before closing(my fault…), and every minute they felt the need to shout out«9 more minutes… 8 more minutes…» etc. I met the old man mentioned and he was okay.

I stop in here every few weeks because they sell the pet food i buy from pet chef. I sometimes look around and have seen some decent things, but i cannot look past how horrible their employees are. There is no price on the bags of pet food rather its on a price sheet they have under the register. On multiple occassions their employees have attempted to charge me twice what the food costs. In one instance i had to threaten to get the owner of pet chef on the phone to confirm the price before he would admit it was the wrong price. If this happened one time i would say it was a mistake, but given how many times it has happened i feel certain its a scheme their employees have to pocket some extra money. i notified the owner of the pet food company who made sure there is now price tags on the food so they can no longer do this. On another occassion a customer asked if he could set an item down at the counter that he wanted to buy so he could continue to look around without having to carry it. The cashier literally screamed at him saying it was store policy that things couldnt be placed on the counter. Seriously? This is supposed to be a charitable place so how about you take customer service 101 and start treating your customers like… customers!

This location is such an improvement from their older location. Way more organized. And when you’re buying things from here, you know that your dollars are going toward a good cause.

After visiting this store last week, I realized that I should update my review, which was for the old store on 4th. This new location has a much better location and is very spacious, making it easier to find stuff and move around than the last spot. Sadly, as other reviewers have noted, their selection is pretty dismal. After three visits I only ever walked away with one purchase. So, although I prefer the new location, my star rating remains the same.

Hopefully Unilocal will update this store with its new address on the corner of 5th and Keystone Ave. Meanwhile… Having given the place about 10 days to get its act together, I was surprised by the lack of merchandise available to purchase. And the workers said they’ve got all of their donations out. This thrift store does have more furniture than most, but the items are mostly pricey given their condition and/or desirability. The store has about ¼ of the clothing you’d expect to find in a store this size and most of the household goods and knickknacks appear to be leftovers from a not so great garage sale. I wanted to support the SPCA by making a purchase, but could find nothing here that I wanted either for myself or for anyone else. The two stars are for the store’s cleanliness, and the friendliness of its employees. Provided the SPCA ever gets any decent merchandise to sell, then I will up my rating as the store has a great location(in the old Sportsman’s building), a wonderful parking lot, and plenty of space in which to nicely display items. There was one decent recliner chair for $ 30, but nothing else of value that was reasonably priced. I’m crossing my fingers that conditions will improve here, otherwise this store won’t last.
