Oh wow… I’m way behind on this one… way behind. But I still wanted to throw down a review here for this terrific breakfast event. Gold N Silver is a pretty straightforward breakfast diner – nothing terrible, nothing exceptional – but one thing that they do have over most breakfast places is a private dining room. We filled that room up, and they stepped up to the challenge. Keeping us all filled to the rim on water and coffee and keeping separate orders straight on separate checks is no small feat, and the staff here did well. Lots of good conversation with some great people… thanks, Robert!

You did it again, Robert! A nice Unilocal breakfast get together with some of Reno’s finest. The company was outstanding — it was great to finally meet Tracy, one of my first Unilocal friends. The event was well organized. We were in a separate room and we were all able to sit together and not intrude on the other diners. I think the biggest letdown was the food. It was not terrible, just not the best breakfast I have ever had. The eggs Benedict was average at best. The Hollandaise sauce was thick and a bit bland for my taste. The eggs, however, were cooked to perfection. The hash browns tasted a little off as if the cooking oil was old. The dish was lukewarm, but with that many people to serve at once, that is bound o happen. Service for the most part was good. Our waitress was attentive and made every effort to keep the coffee cups filled. No problem with separate checks for the large group. Gold N Silver is one of those traditional Reno icons. Nothing fancy, but just good solid coffee house food. If I were rating on just the food, it would be a three star rating. Not bad, not great, but OK. For the service and the overall enjoyability of the event I give it four stars.

Another fantastic Unilocal breakfast put together by Robert! This morning I decided to try the Eggs Castroville which is an eggs benedict with artichoke hearts instead of meat topped with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce on English muffins. Let me just say that I love a good eggs benedict and this did not disappoint. The eggs were poached perfectly! A creamy golden yolk oozed over each muffin just as they should. The hollandaise was light, creamy and very flavorful. I have never had a benedict with artichoke before and I must say that I LOVED it! The artichoke with the hollandaise sauce was such a delicious combination. For my side I had hash browns which were nice and crispy on the outside. The service was great. The coffee was always full and our servers made sure we had everything we needed and accommodated our large group with ease. Great breakfast! Thanks Robert. :)

Again Robert put together a nice breakfast time for a large good. The Gold and Silver had us set up in a separate room– nice. They even allowed for all those separate checks to be done. Coffee cups always full and food came out hot. Thanks again Robert for setting these up. It’s a nice way to see Unilocal friends and meet some new ones.

November 22, 2014 Saturday — 9:30AM Breakfast 2 adults & and a bunch of Unilocalers Atmosphere — 5 stars Food –4 ½ stars Service — 5 stars Background — Another of Robert S’s UYE Breakfast Club events. We can not miss those! Atmosphere — Featured on Guy Fieri’s Diner, Dives and Drive Ups. And this is a classic American diner leaning toward the dive side. They have a room in the one corner which they had set up for us. Food Drink — Had plenty of coffee at home, time for some water. They actually had pitchers of water on the tables. My Meal Main Course — I love me some biscuits and gravy, so I had the Country Style & Browns. Nice thick sausage gravy. Huge plate full of biscuits, topped with sausage patties. Very tasty and sausage broke apart easily with a fork. The browns were not the color but a side of hash brown. The hash browns were cooked to a crisp, a little too much for me. For me the hash browns were just a bonus. The meal was had huge portions for a great price. Service — One lady just worked the coffee which is great for the drinkers. With such a large group the kitchen did a great job. Our waitress was great with creating separate checks for all the groups. Future — I will go back to Gold N Sliver.
