Born and raised in the High Sierra mountains, Rich has been living with trees since birth. Rich’s father Lewis worked as a logger and was a lifetime mountain enthusiast. Rich gained first-​hand knowledge and experience with trees from an early age. As a boy Rich and his friend would hike into the forests with a two-​man buck-​saw and fall dead snags for fun and to stay out of trouble.

Rich’s favorite tree is the apple tree. Rich loves the apple tree because it gives edible life to the people that maintain it. All fruit trees fall into this category. Being new to the area I was in need of a tree removal service so i went to Unilocal for my search, this is where I found Mr. Gwyn, I had 3 estimates and chose my middle bid, I did read the reviews on Unilocal and having meet Rich when he came to my home to give me my bid i decide to give him my business even with some concern based on one of the reviews on Unilocal,all I can say is that not only is Rich a very nice man I found very honest and friendly and was very helpful with recommendations on my tree removal. His crew was very efficient and friendly and went the extra mile for me. I highly recommend and Gwyn’s tree service will have my future business.

After I asked to get his service with an estimate, his clue came out and proceeded without confirming the time to come out.
Then the invoice wasn’t left at home (which they claim they did), but debris from the service was left, being blown to neighbor’s yard and street.
To clarify what was included in the service, I made a phone call.
(Basically I wanted to find out if debris clean up was a part of the estimate or not.)
On the phone, I was treated with unacceptable racist and sexist attitudes that I’ve never experienced.
Instead of giving me the details that was on «supposedly left invoice,» I was blamed for having an accents in my speech and treated with disrespect.
What I want was what was listed in the invoice.
I was not making a complaint; I just wanted to know what he quoted for.
This business may have been in this field since 2004, and they may not need to learn how to treat other races fairly just because their business doesn’t need that type of education and awareness to run business in Reno.
I firmly believe any business needs to do good job and treat clients fairly. I’ll not ask for the service from this business.

The trees in my backyard do not look healthy. I called and after some back and forth Rich came out and looked at them. He was confident they could be saved. He took some leaf and soil samples and said he’d get back to me shortly. After waiting a week I called and left a message requesting an update. Another week and another message left. A third week and a final message left. Never did get a return call. I was very surprised since the interaction when Rich came by was very warm and friendly. He did seem quite knowledgeable but that is of no use when he doesn’t follow through.

Rich came out looked at our trees and gave us an estimate. It was a fair price and Rich was very nice and seemed knowledgable. He did however show up unannounced and a day late to do give us this estimate.
Rich said he would be able to do the job in the next couple of weeks. That was fine. He called me after 3 weeks and we set a time for the service. We were scheduled for the next day between 12 and 1. At 2:30 I received a call from Rob stating that they would not make it. He rescheduled for the following Saturday. At 9:00 we called Rich to get a time. Rob called us back and said that he would not be out that day either. At that point I told rob that we would go elsewhere.

This is by far the best tree service we have ever used in this area and we used a few. Rich and his crew are very knowledgeable about all aspects of trees. Their prices are very reasonable and the work was done as promised. They’re very friendly and patient since I had a lot of questions and appreciated them taking the time to explain. We will use them again in the spring as we have another tree to come down. We highly recommend Rich and his crew for excellent work and service! Thank you for a job well done!

I bought a new house in an old neighborhood with a lot of old trees. It appeared that no one had looked at them for a decade or so. I called Rich because of the positive write-​ups here at Unilocal.Rich was great. He pointed out an infection on a couple of my old blue spruce trees and some pruning needed on a couple of old fruit trees. He walked the yards with my wife and I; and described the plants and the status of their health. He pointed out that most of my trees were actually very healthy. That was a relief because several of them are really large. And, I was afraid they need to be taken out before they got blown down by a heavy Nevada wind.
Rich was pleasant and very informative. He does not try to unnecessarily get you to take plants out because it makes work for him or his crew. I have been with nursery people before that are just trying to sell you something every five minutes.
I have since sent him out to one of my other properties. He diagnosed a pine to have root disease. And, I had it removed.
I want to point out that Rich has a good deal of formal nursery/​arborist education from UNR. Over the last couple of years, I have dealt with two different prominent landscaping business’, and regrettably, over time, found out that neither one of them actually knew what they were talking about.
He has got the knowledge, he is easy to be around, and his prices are reasonable. I strongly recommend him.

I went to the Extension office, no help. I had 2 other tree specialist’s come over, no help. I called Rich Gwyn and he wasn’t sure what was wrong so he researched the problem until he solved it! I have since used him 2 more times and I could not be happier. He responds and he really, really cares about tree’s and plants. I also think he needs to charge more. he is worth it!!!

Fantastic knowledge and honest service. I am very happy we used Rich for what initially was to just be a tree removal. He rescued that tree and fertilized and got rid of pests affecting several other trees in our yard in addition to excellent tree pruning. Most of all he made sure we were satisfied and spent time asking us if we saw everything that was done and talked us through what he had done. Very highly recommended!
