Reno Pub and Games

These guys are great! The set up makes for little chaos but once you get situated it’s all gravy. There’s console games, board games, tables for card games and tabletop rpg’s. Its ran by two über gamers who are super friendly. I was expecting to run into a clickish room full of d-​bags but everyone was way chill. Thanks y’all.

Came here on a whim one Saturday night looking for something to do after Grand Sierra go karts and golf. It definitely has a «gamer college bachelor pad» feel, with is probably a bunch of «for free» or cheap furniture and tvs… does it matter? NO!
There were a big variety of groups, people playing cards against humanity, mario kart (original), some sort of card or pokemon (sorry I don’t know for sure). Plus handheld nintendo DS games etc.
They have soda and water and a LOT of beer. As well as girly drinks like Mike’s. They enhance the college apartment feel with taquitos and corn dogs offering LOL.
We played Mario Kart 8 and then moved on to a classic of my group’s… GUITAR HERO! Damn I kicked ass that night on level hard and its been years, YEARS since i’ve played.
I could totally see myself coming back, you don’t pay to use the games (of which there are any sistem you can think of as well as a huge cabinet of board games). You pay them in the alochol, 6 drinks were around $ 50 for the night, though 4 of them were Dead Guy Ale so a bit spendier in general.
GIve it a go for something different, yet laid back, and you don’t have to get stuck paying for a game you’ll play two weeks.

Great living room feel — I like just hanging out and spending the day here. Owners are super passionate about gaming and love to share battle stories

Great selection of high end beers and reasonable prices. Friendly staff and comfy atmosphere. Definetly coming here to play Cards Against Humanity. All the old school consoles.

Free console games (not gambling ones) when you buy a beer. Cool. Presentation: not as cool.
Heard about it before opened and followed on Facebook to see when open. Went on a Tuesday whim and took much too long to figure out what was where.
Couches with tvs on right, half-​wall on left that have to go around for more games&tvs, long walk to rear bar on right. There are no signs or signage to tell you what consoles are available or what they are (many gamers will have less doubt but I only had 3 out of ?? that were there), and the games themselves are in a case and are only distributed when asked for. Perhaps they are policing the usage somehow from theft? If so why aren’t they taking ID or some such? If not policed then games should be out next to it’s system.
A ‘menu’ is on the rear wall, but the beverages on offer are all lined-​up on the bar (so not loiter-​friendly there) and only ½ if you are lucky are kept refrigerated. No hard liquor or mixes, no beers on tap. Reminded me of the leftovers from a graduation party– some alcoholic, some not. No beers I recognized –the good ones must’ve aleady been taken. And by ‘good’ I mean recognizable like Dos Equis/​Corona/​Heineken/​Fat Tire /​Blue Moon/​etc, not Costco summer-​pack specials. If they are going to regularly carry this odd eclectic variety then (get better variety and) display them on the wall on small shelves and not the bar itself or something; ACK! But you can buy a pack of Magic cards if you need to. Huh.
At the time there was no ice-​maker, but was on order.
There were about a dozen board games as well, but not quick-​play ones.
Hope you are not hungry as you have a choice of hot dog, corn dog, or dessert/​waffle on a stick. Not nachos or pizza or popcorn or candy, the usual gamer foodgroups.
The lights seemed low, not sure if for benefit of vacant game console& tv combos or if owner saving on power bill (there were 3 wall-​mounted tvs showing nothing). Four tables occupied in rear had role-​play (rpg like d&d) — one gm’d by the bar-​keeper.
The background hum of role-​players was amusing but there was a serious lack of background music, which I point out, and was told they «usually» have it. Huh.
After playing 1 round of Duckhunt I was turned-​off from asking for another game and left.
Had higher hopes and may try again in a few months for them to flesh out their opening-​pains and if can recruit a friend who might know what is what. Since know what to expect my expectations will be set lower.

RPG is dope; it benefits from its candid self-​awareness. RPG knows it’s not a swanky hipster bar — though, admittedly, I like those as much as the next guy (unless the next guy is the frontman from Alt-​J); it’s a homey, warming homage to good times with old friends, to couch co-​op, to board games and soda and beer and hot dogs.

I absolutely adore this place! Awesome atmosphere to relax and just be a nerd. Many game consoles they have I haven’t played in years and finding them all in one place is fantastic! Super reasonably priced and a fun place to be.
If you’re looking for a fancy bar, this isn’t your place. If you’re looking to relive being 10 years old playing your favorite NES game, this is the spot.

Imagine a big ‘ol game party. Friends and new acquaintances alike hanging out playing video games, card games, and various board/​tabletop games. There is no charge to play, and everyone is just happy to be able to have a good time. That is what Reno Pub & Games is like.
The staff keeps the party going by keeping it clean, and providing inexpensive drinks and snacks to fuel the fun. At least, that is the ideal. I went down there on the day of their grand opening, and the place was packed. They didn’t quite have every service up and running ideally, but it is easy to imagine the staff getting a better rhythm for getting customer orders and having all the menu items available. This place will definitely need some fine tuning, but it’s easy to see where it is going.
As a gamer who loves to socialize over games, this place felt like a dream come true. Unfortunately, places like this are often flashes in the pan that burn out quickly. I don’t want to see this happen to RPG! It’s a fantastic premise that is being executed admirably. I implore anyone reading: if you are looking a for a good-​time hang out spot that will provide excellent entertainment for little cost to your wallet, this is the place. Please support it! Come down, play a game, buy a drink and a snack and give a big tip. Places like this need consistent and loyal customers if they hope to stay open. When you support this place, you don’t just support RPG, you support a thriving gamer community here in Reno.
