Power Up

Took in my Samsung GS4 for screen repair, which was visibly cracked b/​c I dropped it (cracked despite shell). Tech «fixed» it, for almost $ 200. But then it stopped working shortly thereafter even though there was no trauma. I explained this to the tech but he said unfortunately, it was just outside the 3 mos. warranty window. I said I thought the 3 mos. warranty was too short given what I paid & that it was well below industry avg for parts & service. He said he’d look at it & see what they could do if I didn’t cause the trauma. After inspection, he said he saw pressure trauma. I didn’t put any on it. We were at a standstill. But he offered to fix it at cost of part (another ~$ 100). I thought it was a raw deal b/​c I definitely did not drop it or do anything that would cause that. And I suspected they used inferior parts or simply installed it improperly & were leaving me to hold the bag for approaching $ 300. But given I’d have to pay full price if I went elsewhere, I felt like it was my best option. So I paid again to have him fix it. This time, I made them write on the receipt that if it failed again within a longer period (6mos.), he’d fix it again free.
It then recurred — screen simply went entirely black. Worked one minute, black the next. Once again, I didn’t drop it & there are no visible cracks. So I called them & said, it’s well within that window & it failed again. are you going to honor the warranty. They said no — the warranty was only for screen separation. That was certainly not the spirit of the deal, I don’t even know what that means & certainly doesn’t capture normal wear & tear defects. After some back-​and-​forth, they agreed to look at it.
Upon review, they said it was cracked. They sent me pictures of the crack. I wrote back that I did not drop it, scratch it, or put any pressure on it beyond normal usage. In addition, I have seen screens cracked into 50 pieces that still work going on 2 years. Moreover, prior to the initial crack that brought me into their store, I dropped that phone many times & never had a problem. Therefore, I do not believe either that said mark (however it got there) should’ve caused this type of problem or this problem should’ve occurred under normal use if it were Samsung parts properly installed, or that I caused it for that matter. But they won’t stand by it.
When they returned the phone to me, I looked again & you almost can’t even find the blemish they refer to. There’s a minute line, almost imperceptible. I peeled back the screen protector & there is no visible crack. I do not believe this could’ve caused the screen to malfunction. And if it did, there’s no telling how it got there b/​c it’s been covered the whole time w/​a protector & stays in the holster.
While I thought they were cheapest at first, I yet again learned the hard way that you get what you pay for. They’re going to use faulty parts or do a poor install & then leave you holding a useless paperweight. Steer clear.

I’m not sure why everyone’s saying this place is a scam or a rip off, my experience both times I’ve gone had been very enjoyable and professional. They charge a little more than the Apple Store but the you get a personable experience and you’re supporting a local family other than a large corporation. My screen was totally shattered and my speaker was broken and they both fixed them with no problem. It was $ 160 for everything but they threw in a screen protector and fixed my speaker for free. I will be recommending to my friends.

By far the best repair location I’ve been to in Reno. The sprint store told me that my phone was ‘not fixable’. The guy at Power Up told me the opposite. He fixed my phone in half a day and it works perfectly. Totally recommend Power Up 100%

I took my iPhone 5 there with a broken screen. It was working and responding to touch, just had a crack. I got it back and it looked great and worked. I took it home and tried to connect it to my computer to restore and it got stuck on the Apple logo. iTunes said there was something wrong with the device (i.e. an after-​market screen). At this point I had lost everything on my phone (i.e. precious text conversations, photos, and everything else not backed up), so I at least tried to restore so I’d have a phone. No luck, it was stuck on the Apple screen of death. I took it back into Power Up the next morning and they told me «too bad». They had already charged me $ 130 for the screen replacement and then proceeded to charge me $ 25 more for a diagnostic on what THEY did to my phone!!! They couldn’t fix it, so after spending $ 155, I ended up losing everything on my phone and I had to go across the parking lot and buy a new phone at the Apple Store. I understand that mistakes happen, but the customer service was deplorable. They should have at least offered me a free diagnostic. To charge me for it was insulting.

Fast and affordable I highly recommend fixing your phone here. Thanks to Brittany who’s helpful and so speedy!

However when I checked in the see if they could fix my iPhone 6 screen, THEY WERE ASKING FOR $ 50 MORE THAN THE APPLE STORE!!! Please just get your stuff repaired at the source, unless your a crazy person with way to much money. Apple actually replaces with with higher quality screens. Im Disappointed, and never coming back

I would question some of the negative feedback. They were friendly and very helpful with my phone problem.

Great service, needed my 5s screen repaired at the sparks location, the man was very nice and even out a screen protector i bought on when it was done, the screen works great so far. But then i tried to plug in my headphones, and that was when i realized that the sound was all static and i could get a clear sound from it, or any voices.

I was visiting friends in Reno when my Dell computer went dead. Brought it in, told Brittany and Danny that I only had one day before I had to go back to California. Dropped the computer off and went to lunch.
Had a message on my vm when I got out of lunch. Computer was fixed. Danny found the problem (very minor — inverter came unplugged) and it was fixed for just the minimum diagnostic fee of $ 45.
Highly recommend these friendly, competent folks.

First and last time I will attempt to have my phone fixed here. I was given two prices by different employees. $ 199 for an S4 screen repair is RIDICULOUS but I needed my phone back that afternoon. I was promised a three hour repair. Of course, my phone was not repaired. They didn’t even have the part! I was told, come back the next day, but it was not ready the next day either because the tech wasn’t scheduled to be there that day. This place Is SUCH A SCAM! THEY RETURNED MY PHONE TO ME IN SMALL PIECES! I didn’t receive all the pieces and they really screwed up the hardware. I paid more somewhere else to buy the missing parts and fix the screen, but the phone has never worked well after the multiple three-​hour-​tours at Gillian Island of misfits.

This place is a complete scam, BEWARE !!!
I brought my iPhone in to get a new screen, my old was shattered. Everything on the phone worked fine, until it got into the owner’s hands. When I received it back, it no longer had Bluetooth, or wifi. I brought it back in to complain and he said these things happen! Didn’t offer to fix it or return my 80 $ for the screen. EXTREMELY RIPPED OFF!!! 0 stars

Business owner sent messages trying to right the wrongs and then say I’m not a real customer? Because I don’t want to come back to this establishment in sparks that can’t even put the screws back in or let me know I left my case behind?

These guys were awesome from the start. First off, I was able to find their website and their locations very easily through Google Local. I chose the location closest to my office, and when I called I spoke with Danny. Even though I was easily identified as a low-​ticket customer, Danny treated me as if I was their biggest whale. He answered every question that I threw at him with great care and service — many of which were related to me trying to keep my cost down! A couple days later I received a call from Brittany stating that my issues were all taken care of and my son’s phone was ready to be picked up. I experienced outstanding customer service, surprisingly great affordability, and a super quick turn-​around. The Power Up team wins again!

This place is awesome! I’ve taken my phone to other places and have never been this satisfied. Recently I took it to a place called cellairis in the meadowood mall… they completely jacked up my phone. When I brought it in to power up I got it fixed within an hour! Danny was very accommodating and very sweet. He even gave me paperwork to show cellairis what they did wrong and to try and get them to pay for the damages, He was even willing to talk to the manager and everything. I’m a ding dong and dropped it again within a week and Danny felt so bad because it was my birthday and I was having such a terrible day that he gave me 10% off and fixed one of my sensors for free. He saved me over $ 30! Talk about service and actually caring about customers. I will never go anywhere else. Thanks guys! Knowing me I will probably be back ;)

I took my Nexus 5 phone here to have the power button replaced. I should have been suspicious when I picked up the phone and the battery was completely dead. «Charge that right away,» the repair person (same rude guy with gaged ears mentioned in another review) said repeatedly. The battery was at more than 50% when I dropped it off, but I guess plugging in a USB cable is too hard.
…Or was it that if the battery was dead, I wouldn’t be able to boot up the phone in the store? And if I couldn’t boot up the phone until I was out of the store, I wouldn’t notice that in the process of «fixing» a sticky power button (which had been causing the phone to intermittently reboot), the repair person had completely broken my phone’s WiFi and Bluetooth, and caused it to reboot again every single time it’s booted up (except in safe mode or airplane mode)?
They charged me $ 65 to break my phone. Next time I’ll just break my own phone for free. I’m not sure where all those positive reviews came from, but note how many are from people with zero friends and only one or two other reviews.

Very impressed with their service. Took care of my shattered screen for a reasonable price, and I was on a time crunch and he worked it out so that I was able to do some local shopping and pick up my phone within an hour! Also he was very knowledgable and gave me good recommendations for avoiding further problems with my phone. Tip: eat frozen yogurt while you wait right next door!

Saved me hundreds of dollars! Excellent service. Long story short, dropped iphone 5 in water and it went completely dead. Spent a week back and forth with Tmobile insurance. Paid them $ 300 for a brand new replacement, but have to wait for claims to be processed. Waited another week, nothing, needed phone badly. Unilocaled around, brought dead phone to PU at 3pm, they said no guarantees and gave several quotes since it’s been dead for 2 wks! 5pm got a call that it’s all fixed for $ 60!!! Seriously?! Like brand new, been 2 months and no issues. These people are super nice and honest. Canceled my claim, saved $ 230.

I am SUPER impressed with Power Up! I went for a walk in the Truckee River and didn’t realize my phone was submerged until almost 30 minutes had passed. I took it apart immediately and then in a bag of rice when I got home. 3 days later, I couldn’t get it past the «Samsung» page.
I took my phone to Power Up and told them what happened. The next morning I got a phone call stating my phone was up and running and ready to be picked up.
A refurbished phone was going to cost over $ 250. Power Up fixed my phone for under $ 100. I am so thankful I saw their commercial and went to them.
Not only were they able to fixed my water damaged phone, but the customer service was beyond friendly and professional. I hope Power Up stays around in case life again. I highly recommend Power Up!

What fantastic human beings. After breaking my phone twice in two days, my phone was repaired twice and the second time they have me a huge discount. On top of that he put a protector on my phone for free just in case. Not only will you save money, but these guys had to sit there and watch me have a meltdown and cry while they repaired my phone. Not only did they fix my phone but the guy sat there and talked to me until I stopped crying while he fixed it. Cheaper than both a retail store and a therapist!
Phones are stressful and expensive things to have fixed and deal with and these guys are so thorough, genuine, and patient with each customer that I will never go anywhere else. Going here made my awful day so much better and I am so grateful.

We have been to Power Up twice now. Once in April and once in September. Each time it has been to replace either the front screen on an iPhone or diagnosis an iPhone for night having a light so the screen is visible. The staff at Power Up is amazing. They are friendly, kind and capable. They fixed our phones both times within 1 hour and everything has continued to work perfectly. They are eager to quickly fix your item and get you back to functioning quickly. I can’t say enough wonderful things about Power Up. Thanks guys for doing such an amazing job!

I broke the glass on my iPad and let some hack in Daly City «fix» it. I was left with an iPad with improperly placed screen and a broken wifi antenna and no external speaker. I brought it to these guys and I got an assessment, an invoice and a reasonable price to make it all right. Danny knows what the hell he’s doing and is certified. He kept me up to Date on the repair and finished in a timely fashion. The net result: I have a fully functional iPad again. I only wish I’d brought it to him in the first place! A lesson learned for $ 80 (that’s how much extra this whole fiasco cost me extra in the end). By the way, they also sell accessories at a pretty good price too. I know where I’ll keep going if I need repairs on any of my gadgets again. I highly recommend Power Up to anyone needing the same.
