Specialties

We grow our own tomatoes (see greenhouse on our website), use many local ingredients, and offer vegan and gluten free options that are good. We cater and have extensive options ranging from Parmesans, Lasagnas, Soups, Taco Bars, and many more creative options. We are also home of GinoTheSoupMan soups, sauces, & Entrees. See menu on the web. All meats are nitrite and nitrate free and have been administered antibiotics or growth hormones and always vegetarian fed.

History

Established in 2008.

We started as a greenhouse grower, started making GinoTheSoupMan soups, and then the café in 2010. Gino has 24 years as a foodservice professional and Juli contributes a lot in recipe development and is the heart and soul of the company. We decided to make wholesome local foods that taste amazing.

Business Owner

Gino & Juli Scala are a happily married couple. They have helped raise 4 wonderful children and reside in a country home where the first Great Full Garden’s Hydroponic Tomato Greenhouse is located.

Juli is born and raised in Reno. Gino is a 23 year Reno resident and transplant from Southern California.

Juli is a «Certified Life Coach» and brings those skills to the company’s approach to the valuable employees at Great Full Gardens. «She is the most loving person I know», Gino say’s. It is through her interpersonal skills that Great Full Gardens has and will continue to build a team of dedicated people that love themselves and what they are doing. Juli has educated herself in hydroponics through Crop King, an industry leader in hydroponic tomato production. She is a self made foodie and most definitely has a knack for blending the right ingredients.

Pathways used to be an awesome place to eat, back when they were owned by a different company. Since then, everything has changed. The quality of food has declined significantly. The bread is usually stale. They only give you a few pieces of meat, and the vegetables are usually wilted. If you order coffee from them, it’ll usually take them 10 minutes or so to make a basic latte. If you don’t feel like waiting, they do have drip coffee. However, it is very low quality and is usually burned. Definitely not worth the walk for students on the south end of campus. For those of us on the north end of campus… I guess we don’t have much of a choice.

If you work in the North part of UNR, this is one of the few options you have if you don’t bring your lunch to work or craving some breakfast goodies or perhaps your fancy caffeine boost.
There was a day I was craving a breakfast burrito badly so my coworker recommended that I wander over to Pathways. I got there and there were three employees behind the counter. I was asked by the first one if I wanted to order a drink and I declined. The second employee asked me if there was anything I want from behind the counter and I asked for the breakfast burrito. She asked me if I wanted «everything» and she went to the back and relayed my order to someone else. The third employee was behind the register and she asked me what my order was and I told her. It came out to a little less than $ 5. Not bad right? Well yeah, if I just wanted a potato burrito with some salsa. I will probably give them another try. I’ve heard good things about their sandwiches and soups.

Mmmmmm! Apollo wrap! So I have to start with how much I appreciate the above and beyond that Pathways provided to me! I saw a delicious looking salad, but felt like a wrap. You know how sometimes when you ask for special requests they may seem annoyed… Well not Pathways staff! They happily and quickly jumped on it! I also appreciate that every person in there had a smile on their faces! This makes me have a smile in my face!
The Apollo wrap was mixed lettuce, feta cheese, pecans that they even took the time to chop up for me since it was in a wrap (they are whole in the salad), chicken, Italian dressing all wrapped up in a spinach tortilla! First, it was huge! So big I ate half and needed to open up the other half and just eat the salad so not to waste! It was sooooo awesome! Loved the whole experience!

This is a great place for vegetarians. The main problem is that it’s located in the med school campus and you still have to worry about parking. Even as a university employee, I rarely find myself here due to inconvenience. They have special soups that rival Dandelion Café. Check it out if you have the means! «Paid» Wi-​Fi simply because you either need a guest access code or be a student with a current NetID or MedID.

This place has good food compared to the other restaurants on campus, but it is expensive and the portions are very small. For instance, a whole («large») sandwich costs about $ 9ish, whereas at other sandwich shops a large sandwich would only be $ 5 – 7. The entire menu is like that, it’s like the place is designed for skinny white women and vegetarians. Even the soup is all vegen, so you won’t find anything like clam chowder or chicken noodle. If you’re the type to eat a lot and prefer meals that are meaty, this place isn’t for you unless you don’t mind spending 2−3x the price of other places just to fill you up.
Also their chai lattes are way too sweet.

This place is delicious. I am so glad my classes are right next door to this café. I don’t know what I would do if I had to eat another soggy burger at «The Overlook» this semester. Lately, at Pathways, I have been getting their totally tomato soup with a slice of gluten free bread with butter, but everything I have had here is delicious. My classmates also say that. «Oh, I got the kale soup, and I didn’t think it was going to be good, but it was REALLY good!»
Their salad with lemongrass dressing is another favorite. Especially since the tomatoes are grown right in Reno. Their chai lattes made wth ALMOND MILK are fab! :-D As usual, I never forget dessert. That’s why I always save room for their chai tea cookies that Julie makes! I will never forget the time I had this amazing quinoa bean and cheese southwestern burrito. YUM! Again, I wasn’t sure about quinoa, but it tasted GREAT!!!
Prices are right. This one of the places at the top of my list of where to eat while on campus. Stop in and say hi to Gino and Julie & enjoy a healthy, delicious and local meal!
I park in the 3 — 4 parking spots out front of the CMM building if you are crunched for time — no one ever notices… the spots meant for loading/unloading…just do it.
P. S. Check out their new café — Grateful Gardens Café on South Virginia St. by the Wild Orchid. Yes, you know where I’m talking about.

I just had the most delicious and nutricious lunch at Pathways! I LOVE the vegan and gluten free options here! I had a soup and sandwhich combo that knocked my socks off. The veg head sandwhich was really really good! I ordered it without cheese (vegan) and the wonderful person behind the counter informed me that they have vegan cheese. Yes Please! They even have Veganaise! Yay! Every bite was heavenly. It was so good I was inhaling it. I had to remind myself to slow down and savor it! I also enjoyed the most flavorful tomato soup I have ever tasted. Bravo Pathways! I can’t wait for your Virginia St. location to open up so I can visit you more often!!! Thank you!!!

Great café up at UNR. Killer sandwiches, soups, pastries and atmosphere. Everything is home farmed or home grown and home made. Juli is a doll and Gino is a character.
Am not crazy about the coffee. I prefer Alpen Sierra Coffee out of Carson Valley. Their organic coffees are richer and more flavorful than Blind Dog’s organic’s however Blind Dog does donate a % of their proceeds to Childhood Cancer which is cool.
Don’t know where Gino learned how to make soups, but they are amazing and the prices in this place are about half of what they should be.

When you’re done with Bikram yoga, the last thing you want is a heavy meal. For the first couple of sessions, the S.O. and I would try to figure out what to eat.
«Indian?» «Nah, too heavy.»
«Thai?» «Okay.» [later…heartburn]
«Vietnamese? «Meh.» [Even though we love it, hella]
So one day after class as we were cooling down, we looked at their menu and immediately the FH goes, «Okay we have to get one of these. NOW.»
First, we took home the «Mega Vega Chili,» and it was fully consumed. Not normally a fan of vegan food, we were incredibly surprised how good this tasted. Everyone always lies about vegan food — «Oh it’ll be great, you can’t even taste the difference!» Bitch, yes I can. I can taste it, and it is nasty. Except, for some odd reason, this soup. It was perfect. We may have added chicken for some extra protein though. but seriously, you could have done without it. We need it though because of how hard we work out.
The next night we turned to each other and said, «Yeah, we have to get another one,» so we did. The «Vegestroni,» a hearty vegan «minestrone» soup chock full of organic and fresh vegetables. Once again, we were in heaven.
Next night, AGAIN, we got the «Coconut Corn and Sweet Potato Chowder,» and both of us are, again, in heaven. It’s like continuing yoga but without the hot room, just a hot meal. It was blissful.
I’m pretty sure that Gino’s is 90% of the reason I actually show up to yoga, because you can only get it at Pathways, Bikram Yoga Sierra — Reno, or their Truckee studio.
It’s great that the food is vegan though, because I’m lactose intolerant and the worst thing you can do is fart in a 105 degree yoga studio.
