Path To Wellness

Let me start by saying I am terrified of needles! I have a few autoimmune issues, and have been looking at alternative medicine. I have been pondering acupuncture for a while. Doing a ton of research I finally decided to bite the bullet, and try it. I called Path to Wellness just to get a little info. Maureen happened to answer the phone, we chatted for a few minutes. She was very kind and knowledgable. I felt so comfortable with her, I ended up booking an appointment.
I show up for my appointment. The waiting room, is small. But comfortable. Cory knew who I was the moment I walked thru the door, and greeted my by name, and offered me tea. He was friendly and kind.
Maureen sat down and went thru my health history paperwork. We discussed all my health issues and she went over exactly what the treatment would be. She made me feel very at ease! I laid down on a massage table, with soft music playing, I prepped myself to be stuck with needles. I felt her hand on my spine, then she says «there’s your first needle» wait, what??? I didn’t even feel it! She proceeded to put needles down my spine, my knees, and my ankles. Didn’t feel a thing! She then put one on the top of my head… The thought creeped me out, but… It didn’t hurt! She advised me that I will be laying here with the needles in for a half hour, that I should relax, and close my eyes. It was wonderful! She would pop in every so often and «stimulate the needles». (She would gently run her hands on the needle to make them vibrate a little) such a strange and cool feeling! After a half hour, she came in and took the needles out.(not painful at all). She then walked my thru how I would feel the next few days, and booked me for an appointment next week. Leaving the appointment I felt like I just got a massage. Rejuvenated and relaxed!
My experience here wonderful. Tho I dont know if it helped my issues yet, I feel very optimistic. Maureen put all my worries at ease, her energy was very kind and open. I don’t know why I waited so long to try this! It was a wonderful experience! I’m really looking forward to my next appointment! I had visited one of Reno’s oldest Acupuncturists several times for two different medical issues without any relief so I had no faith in Acupuncture. However, having had radiation treatment for Cancer in my throat and getting the resultant dry mouth, I was desperate to find some relief. I did extensive on-​line research on treatments. I discovered that three of the première Cancer treatment centers in the U.S., MD Anderson, Sloan-​Kettering, and Mayo Clinic, had done clinical tests on the efficacy of acupuncture and had good results, finding that it does work in a significant number of patients. A Naval Hospital in San Diego also had had very positive results. A Brazilian Study had similar results. Consequently I contacted all four of the U.S. programs to obtain the protocols that they had used and was given copies.
I took the protocols to another acupuncturist, locally, who I had not used before and who had good reviews and he tried all the protocols on me with no positive results. This was about six months after treatment. Of course I was very disappointed, especially so because other members of a Throat Cancer Forum had posted good results for themselves.
Three years out of treatment I visited my Oncology Radiation Doctor and reviewed my cancer treatment after affects with her. One of those affects was chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy and she told me that acupuncture had been found to be successful in treating that condition. I decided to give it another try. I spoke with several friends who had used Dr. McKenney and were very happy with her results so I made an appointment with her. I went to her for several sessions and got no relief. I decided that I was wasting my time in trying to treat that condition and at my last appointment told her not to continue but asked her if she could treat me for the Dry Mouth. She said that she could. I told her that I had copies of the four protocols but she said she’d like to try her own approach and if that didn’t work we could try the protocols.
Using her own protocol I gradually got saliva back, eventually getting about 40% of my former saliva. At that point I plateaued and told her I didn’t see any reason in continuing. She said that she wanted to try a different protocol to see if that would increase my saliva, and it did, eventually getting me to a point of about 80% recovery. I then plateaued again and stopped the treatment.
To me my saliva recovery is miraculous and I recommend Dr. McKenney highly, she is very intelligent, professional, and personable. Everything you could want in a Doctor.

I could not begin to express how wonderful Path to Wellness is. You are greeted by Cory, who is the friendliest most calm man. Then you meet Doctor McKenney who is smart, compassionate, and kind. My favorite part is that she sits down with me at every appointment and has a one on one conversation with me (at EVERY visit). She is the only doctor I have been to that listens to me and wants to get answers. I have even received home phone calls just checking in with me to see how I am feeling. I would highly recommend you make your appointment today!

Dr. Maureen is incredibly knowledgeable about acupuncture and supplements. She is the first doctor I’ve seen in 11 years that has been able to help me with sleep, so much so that I no longer have to take Ambien.

Dr. McKenney at Path to Wellness is a gem. This is a really relaxing place and I always feel more whole after an acupuncture or cupping visit.
My shoulder and neck have been stubborn for years because of all the one-​handed push-​up records I tried to set in college (I set zero). Now, my visits to Path to Wellness really help.

I love going to see Dr. McKenney, she is very helpful and kind. I wouldn’t think of going anywhere else for my acupuncture.
