Business Owner

Born and raised in central Kansas, Dr. Byarlay’s passion for animals started at a young age. Growing up Judy was always surrounded with animals from family pets to farm animals at 4H activities.

After graduating from high school she went on to Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas earning her bachelors degree in Physical Education and a minor in science. Upon her Masters Degree from Fort Hays State University in Kansas, Judy became a licensed Athletic Trainer until 1999 when she decided to attend the University of Tennessee Veterinary College.

Dr. Byarlay worked in Greenville, North Carolina and Louisville, Kentucky for a few years before settling in the Reno area in 2006. Dr. Byarlay spent most of those years practicing in the field of shelter medicine and continues to spend time with shelter pets to this day.

Along with her in-​home practice, Dr. Byarlay currently teaches at the TMCC Veterinary Technician program, does relief work at a veterinary clinic, and works with non-​profit P

Today we put down our beloved dog Nicky. I called Homeward Bound last night to make an appointment anticipating the inevitable. I left a message filled with many emotional pauses caused by my grieving. Henry called back almost immediately. I found him to be patient, compassionate and informative. We set an appointment for today at 9:00 am.
Henry and the veterinarian Dr. Byarlay showed up on time. The sincerity in their compassion and patient attitudes made a very emotional situation less painful. We felt that we were among friends that truly cared.
When it came time for payment my wife inadvertently wrote the check for an amount above what I had been quoted. I would have not known of this mistake had Henry not called to request a replacement check for the correct amount.
Our baby girl is gone but we take solace to know that she went down in the comfort of her own bed surrounded by family and these two wonderful and ethical professionals.

Our cocker spaniel of almost 17 years had to be put down and he hated having to go to the vet. We heard about a vet who does at-​home euthanasia and I called and made arrangements for Dr. Byarlay to come to our home.
The doctor and her assistant were both very caring and made our dog, my wife and I very comfortable throughout the process.
I recommend Dr. Byarlay without hesitation.

I cannot speak enough good things about Dr. Byarlay and Henry. When it was time to send our 9 year old baby to heaven we were referred to Dr.Byarlay. They were amazing during this difficult time. If you ever need to make the same difficult decision for your pet I highly recommend this duo to help you through the process.

I had Homeward Bound picked out for a few months with their business card on my frig. I had all arrangements also planed ahead for months. My fur baby’s health had been sliding down heal for some time, and on Feb 1 it was her time to go over the Rainbow Bridge…
We called in the morning (which was a Monday) and set a time for Dr Byarlay to come to our house. But because she is also teaching at TMCC, she would only be able to make it out to our home after 5. We went with that. But as the day went on I could see that Jewel was in a lot of pain and knew she wouldn’t make it to 5. So we called again in hopes that MAYBE they could make it sooner, but right when we were on the phone she had a seizer. I hung up on poor Henry and held my Jewel in my arms until she was gone. We called back and Henry knew who we were before we could even say anything. (He seemed as upset as we were) Said, «Let me grab a few things and I’ll be right over to take Jewel to A Beloved Friends Pet Crematory» Which we also told him at the time we made the appt with the Dr. that that is where we want Jewel to go. He was over at our home within 15mins and you could tell he cares for you and your pet in this hard time. He wrapped her up and gave us all the time we need to say our «good-​byes»

Dr. Byarlay and her Practice Manager, Henry, are wonderful, attentive and caring people. They have made time to come out to my house in the evening for well checks for my cat and dog as well as dropping everything for an emergency house call for my dog when I just knew she wasn’t feeling right and something was wrong. They take all of my concerns seriously and offer compassion and explanations to everything that is going on with my babies. They even call and text me to check on how my dog is doing and to see if I have any questions and delivered prescription refills to my home after I got home from work. They are amazing people who go above and beyond what any average veterinary office would do and I don’t know what I would do without them. Especially since my poor dog, Reagan, isn’t able to easily get in a car to go to a vets office. I highly recommend them and I don’t plan on every changing my furbabies dr to anyone else.

Dr. Byarlay and her practice manager came to our home on Sunday morning July 12 to help us say good-​bye to our 15 year old GSD. They made a very emotional and difficult time less painful then I’m sure it would have otherwise been. They were both wonderful and I would highly recommend them to anybody. They offer many very affordable in-​home services. We will be forever grateful to them.

Dr. Judy Byarlay DVM and her Practice Manager just left our home. We have a loving dog Ruby and cat Mische who were both 17+ years old who they helped us put down. Very difficult as you could imagine but they were thoughtful, caring and sympathetic in our time of need. We highly recommend them to everyone who has pets and are in need of Veterinary Services. On top of that they are very affordable and come to your home for all their services!
