February 21, 2015 Saturday 1:00PM 2 Adults Atmosphere — 5 stars Food — 5 stars Service — 5 stars Background — A new beer festival. But what makes this one unique is that it focuses on local breweries. Everyone from Reno and Sparks attended the event. Atmosphere — The event took place behind Under The Rose in the alley. If this event grows they might need to find a bigger space, but today it worked. The area was divided into four areas; breweries and coffee, food trucks, then tables and finally and key, the portapotties. Food Drinks — This is what this event is all about. There was thirteen breweries, and somehow I missed one. Like I said Reno/Sparks was covered, others included Tonopah Brewing, Tahoe Mountain, and the Brewing Liar. It was great seeing those other breweries. I tried a lot of beers. Pappy Van Winkle Stout from Brewers Cabinet stood out as I had a hard time spelling Pappy. Oh this was a strong one. But my favorite which actually surprised me was the Brewing Lair’s Deep Cover Black Porter which had habanero and vanilla. I am not a fan of peppery beer, but the habanero was not over powering but let you know it was there on the after notes. I had a lot of beer, shocking at a festival. I even had some coffee from Hub. I have learned at these festivals that you need eat before and during. So I broke up my drinking into two segments, with the food from the food trucks. Food — Part of your ticket fee covered an entry from one of the three food trucks. Mellow Yellow, Full Belly, and Electric Blue Elephant. We hit the Eclectic Blue Elephant for their salad hand roll. It was large and so yummy. Service — Went to will call and got my ticket and got in line. While in line my ticket for entry was taken and a wrist band was placed on me. Then wait began. I got there about 30 minutes prior. Now it time to figure out where to go first, for me it was Tonopah as I have never had their beer and it was great that they made the long journey. Once they get their bottling operations going they will be selling in Reno. After about 5 beers into the event I looked and the lines, at the tickets it was about 10 plus people and the line to get was still pretty long. As for the brewers it was great talking to them about their craft. Future — Yes please.
