Absolute Music is the Band and Orchestra Specialty Store. With an inventory of over 2,000 musical instruments, our Rent-​to-​Own program is the largest 100% locally owned and operated program in Northern Nevada.

We offer all types of musical instruments for sale, as well as sheet music and related accessories.

Absolute Music is home to the region’s largest and most complete musical instrument repair facility. We have a large staff of dedicated technicians who specialize in brass, woodwinds, percussion, orchestral instruments, and the guitar family of instruments. Our technicians have a combined 50 years of experience.

Absolute Music also offers private music instruction. These personalized lessons are given by personable, university trained musicians. And, because of the way our program is set up, you will find these lessons to be more affordable than those of our competition.

Absolute Music is very active in the school music community. We love to be with our fellow musicians!

History

Established in 2004.

Formerly the band and orchestra division of Carpenter’s Music World, our history dates back to 1967. But it was in 2004 when Steve Gibson (who at the time had worked for Carpenter’s for nearly 10 years) purchased the band and orchestra division of Carpenter’s and separated and created Absolute Music, the first Band and Orchestra specialty store in Northern Nevada’s history.

Steve and his staff have worked diligently since the mid nineties to build and cultivate a close relationship with the region’s school music instructors. Sometime shortly after the creation of Absolute Music these relationships sky-​rocketed.

Absolute Music is very active in the educational music community. We work with music educators in the elementary, middle, and high school realm, as well as with the music department of the University of Nevada.

Absolute Music can be seen out at music events year around. We offer free emergency repairs and offer sales of needed accessories to participants at festivals, etc.

Meet the Business Owner

Steve G.

Business Owner

Raised in a very musical family, Steve started playing musical instruments at an early age. He participated in band and choir thru school, and then majored in music education in college.

While attending college in Fullerton, Steve commuted to Riverside to march with the Riverside Marching Tigers.

In 1995, Steve moved to Reno, Nevada to accept a position as the Band and Orchestra Specialist at Carpenters Music World. He immediately started to cultivate relationships with area music educators. Shortly after, he was promoted to General Manager, a position he held for the remainder of his time there.

In 2004, Steve acquired the Band and Orchestra division of Carpenter’s Music World, separated and created Absolute Music, Northern Nevada’s first band and orchestra specialty store. Absolute Music has become the premier school music dealer in the region.

Steve currently enjoys playing trumpet with the Reno Wind Symphony and the Reno Municipal Band.
