I hadn’t had Sushi in a while and usually I go to Ijis on Kietzke or Sushi Pier 2, but today my friend said we should check this place out since both of us have never been here. We should of just stuck with our regular spots, but at least I know enough now that I can cross this place off my list. Well it was Mildly busy but thats how all sushi places are around lunch time but it started to die down a bit. The first thing we both ordered when we sat down were mussels, and it probably took 10 – 15 minutes before someone took our drink order and still no mussels. Well by the time we ordered our first roll and everything seemed fine and then my friend ordered his second and so did I, he got his roll in about five minutes and I still had not. While I was still waiting another sushi chef asked me what I wanted and I told him and my friend ordered another roll. Again he got his third roll while i still hadn’t even received my 2nd. By the time my friend was on his fourth roll I barely received my 2nd one and we asked about our original mussel order and they came out 10 minutes later. For some reason there were two sushi chefs who were switching between us, one would ask what we wanted and disappear and then the other guy would come and ask us what we wanted and make it and then other guy would ask us if we wanted anything. It was taking so long just to get our food that we decided to call it quits after i had my third roll and we just ordered green tea ice cream and asked for the check . So a few annoying things, we were the only ones basically being ignored, the people who sat next to us in the bar came about 10 – 15 minutes after we did and they received their mussels like right away and they got their orders very quickly and i noticed the people to the other side of me were getting their stuff pretty quick to. Besides the fact that it took them so long to ask us for our drink order, they never came back to check on us but were checking on everybody else, the owner even went around asking how everyones food was and he literally skipped over us. The only other time was saw the waitress was when she gave us our bill and even that took forever to pay because she disappeared after that, the owner was walking by and I asked him so do we pay upfront and he said ill take that. Finally after paying on our way out my friend complained to the manager about how long it was taking and that they literally ignored us, and the owner said well thats murphy’s law, whatever can go wrong, will go wrong. That was his response and then he said that next time we were in there he would buy us a round of beer. Well the food wasn’t that great to begin with the rolls were poorly made and not to mention they have their own menu with different rolls, its more of a gimmicky thing than anything else that combined with the crappy customer service and the owners response i can certainly say that I will not be back ever.

New favorite sushi joint in Reno! They have a wide variety of choices for sushi. I highly recommend trying out«tha omg» for it was my favorite long roll. Pretty cool names for the sushi as well. Very pleasant for my first time being here.

We came here during lunch and service was fast and attentive. Although I’m a nigiri lover, this place doesn’t hold up against some other places in town. So my wife and I went for the rolls. This is where they excel. Creative and variety like their sister place in Sparks. Finally don’t have to drive all the way to Sparks anymore.

I really want this to be my fave sushi bar in town because it is convenient to our house. We’ve been twice now, and, although the sushi is quite good, I just don’t think it’s our kind of place. There’s just something about the ambiance that puts me off. First of all, the prison theme? Let’s just say I don’t find the idea of being locked up a particularly appetizing one. The black and whiteness of the place just makes me feel cold and uncomfortable, which is the opposite of what I’m looking for in a sushi experience. It’s a big space, which is good, as it always seems to be crowded, but there is no intimacy… eating here is all about efficiency, which I guess is thematically appropriate. OK, so even though it’s not my favorite, it is still a four-star restaurant. I DO like the sushi. The Pink Lady is a real winner for me, and the hamachi is always soft and buttery. And it comes out FAST. Whether at a table or the bar, you will never have to wait long to get some food in front of you. But what they offer in speed gets lost in customer service. The servers are hustling all the time, and the chefs are too busy pumping out the fish to engage in any small talk. It’s pretty much a sit down, order quick, eat quick, get the heck out kind of place, and for me it takes the joy out of sushi night.

It’s a shame. I love Tha Joint out in Spanish Springs but this place I’m giving three stars because all of the tempura was soggy. I told the chef(politely, I’m not an a-hole) and figured he would tell the chef but that didn’t happen. He was awkward and just walked away. I realized they had made a giant batch of tempura shrimp that was sitting in the middle of their workspace and they weren’t making anything fresh. If you don’t care about soggy fried shrimp than this is the place for you!

Very pleased. This place has some really unique sushi. I love when a sushi place has an imaginative menu. I was very happy with the long roll with green apple and purée kiwi, I forget the name. The restaurant is bright and well lite, its clean and has a real modern streamline feel to it. They take pride in the ambiance. The staff and chefs were very professional, attentive, seem to truly care about the customers experience and the sushi was delicious. I loved the cloth napkins and the high quality menus design. The only thing i didn’t care for was the setup tray, the dish seems to shallow for my liking, but that isn’t really a genuine complaint. The reason I only give it a 4 star because I already have a Sushi place that I LOVE& I go there sometimes 3 – 4 times a week. Today a friend took me here for lunch, so yes I sort of cheated, wink wink, but it was really good ;) Don’t get me wrong, I’m not leaving my favorite little fishing«Pier». But I can definitely say I will be back in the near future at sample more of their delicious menu. Thank You for lunch Cece :)

I came here last weekend with some friends for all you can eat sushi. We left super full(I mean, we had to get our money’s worth) and extremely satisfied with our food and costumer service. It was Saturday night, and pretty packed. We had about a 10 – 15 minute wait, and were then seated at the bar. A waitress took our drink orders and the sushi chef behind the bar took our food orders. I started out with two rolls. He then asked if we wanted appetizers. Fine, I’ll get some pot stickers. I’m sure I will be able to eat it all. Our sushi came out not long after the apps, and one of my rolls was incorrect, so he quickly made me the right one, without my asking. The incorrect one ended up being pretty tasty too. So now I’m up to three rolls and a plate of pot stickers. What else could I do but try to eat it all? I was very impressed with the sushi, I thought it was really delicious and fresh. The best I’ve had in Reno so far. Our chef was quick and attentive. I don’t know how he made sushi that fast. I’m not sure if I would do all you can eat again. For the amount of sushi I actually wanted/should have ordered(so that I would have been able to button my pants after) I would have spent less than the all you can eat price. Maybe for others it makes more sense.

Three stars for food but they did have excellent service which bumped them to four stars. Still prefer Hiroba for AYCE but 2 Tha Joint would probably be in a second place tie. Unfortunately there’s several places in the second place categories including Sushi Rose, Sushi Pier 2, and KitzMo. At least that is much better than the 30 or so other sushi restaurants in the Reno area that don’t come up to that level. Very competitive field but is seems Reno can handle AYCE sushi on seemingly every other corner.

Ooops. Original Tha Joint-Great. Hopefully this one just needs to work the kinks out, maybe hire a host or hostess? Maybe in general hire more staff? I feel that unfortunately if a business, like a food business, doesn’t have enough staff, they are cheap, and possibly cheap on food and supplies too. Two visits, here are the issues. First visit: First order for our party of 6 at a table came flying out, food was great, sushi, rolls, nigiri, drinks all cut well, prepared with care. Also, a gentleman I believe was the owner bought us a bottle of warm sake. Second order never came out. We filled out the sheet just like the first, and when 15mins later asked our server, she said that the chefs have no order. So we filled out two more sheets, and again, they«lost» one. Maybe hoping we were filling up? It was a struggle just to get the simplest things for the rest of the meal. What we got was good, but it is never fun to struggle. We ate everything too, so it’s not like we were trying to waste. Visit two: Saturday evening. We walk in, obviously a wait. Stand at the host stand for 5+minutes. No greeting at all. Finally the same gentleman from above(free bottle of sake) comes up. Looks at me, no words, grabs a sticky note and grabs people to seat them. No «hello» no «be right with you» and no offering to put our name on the list. He came back three times, no greeting. I was standing right at the podium, and he actually never even acknowledged me. We left, party of three, without even a «hello» from 2 The Joint Maybe it’s because I’m reading«the Starbucks Experience» by Joseph Michelli, or maybe because the«host» was rude, I’m not planning to return until I forget about this experience.

This place was more than I expected. We pulled u p and the parking lot was jam packed which if you go to sushi places you are expecting the long waits between sushi rolls etc. We were surprised to be seated immediately and our waitress was prompt on taking drink orders. After we ordered our rolls the sushi came out much quicker than expected. The sushi was delicious and fresh. If you visit, try the highway roll it was heaven. The atmosphere is great and relaxed. Our waitress was awesome and kind. It’s a great place to hang out and enjoy high quality fish. They have some interesting other options which does not include sushi which makes it great for the non fish eaters in your party :)

This place exceeded my expectations. The names of the rolls are unique, some are funny. The fish was very fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is nice, they have what sounded like top 40 hits playing. My wife enjoyed the highway roll, and I was loving the nigiri. Salmon and yellowtail were the favorites. The service was amazing, our waitress got our drinks out asap, and we were expecting a long wait for our 4 rolls and 4 orders of nigiri. Within a few minutes of the waitress taking our order we had half of our order and they were pretty packed when we got there. All in all, they earned a 5 star and we will be returning for more!

Whatever Hamdogs was doing wrong, 2 Tha Joint is obviously doing right. There are more people in that location for a lunch on Tuesday than I’m pretty sure were in Hamdogs on a hoppin’ Friday night. I’ve never been to the original location, so I can’t really testify to it’s authenticity. But I can tell you that it’s really good sushi. Love the speed and friendliness of the chefs(hey, I have a limited amount of sushi I can stuff in my gob before my brain tells my belly it’s full), and the staff really works hard to make sure your drinks are full and that all of your plates are taken away quickly. The fish is fresh and delicious, and I think they have one of the best fish/rice ratios that I’ve had in town. Their menu has a good selection of items, and I don’t feel like I’m missing out because I’m only eating lunch and not dinner. So, why a four out of five, you ask? Well, their rolls are creative and interesting, but often over-sauced, in my opinion. They make a lot of their own interesting additions using fruit-flavored(mango comes to mind) sauces, but I often found that these create a bit of an imbalance. Either I’m only tasting the sauce(a common problem), or the sauce is too sweet, etc. While I’m definitely a fan of the creativity, doing a taste-test to make sure it’s coming out how they want might be warranted. This has become one of my regular haunts, so I’m happy to recommend you check it out if you’re looking for something new.

2 Tha Joint must be an exciting place for Reno due to the popularity of the Sparks one. This however is utterly dissapointing. They had a party going on while they were running their regular dinner service. I understand things are going to be slower… its inevitable really. However, when it takes 20 min to get a single roll that’s another story. The waitress said she would check on the rolls, but I watched her walk off to pour waters for another group. Never checked. Owner seems to be indifferent about customer satisfaction. The quality of the food started off great. They have nice nigiri and creative rolls. Then we started getting cold rice and wrong orders. Late and wrong? VERY dissapointing. I remember one waitress just slamming the dish on the table and saying,“I don’t know what this is”. Excuse me? Shouldn’t you ask or just not serve it if you are unaware of this?! The cold, poorly wrapped Funky Chicken still makes me cringe as I write this. I’m not coming back. Trust me. There are so many better places for what you’re paying/receiving. Good old Hiroba is reliable and does everything you want 2 Tha Joint to do, and more.

Very impressed with the quality of fish. Simple black and white décor. Fast service with a smile. The all you can eat menu was not restricted. You can order the apps, nigiri and rolls from the standard menu. Caution when eating the chicken bites. They are served in a sahracha sauce, very tasty but mainly just smothered in sahracha. I like hot but one bite and I was done. Salmon was like butter, mackerel was so fresh(haven’t found it like that at any other sushi joint) rolls were original along with the standard favs. The only negative I can say is they are heavy handed with the sahracha. They dab it on 90 percent of the nigiri. Some of the fish is just to delicate a taste to hold up to it. When we ordered our second go round we asked for no sahracha, alas it was busy by than, so the sauce was on it and I noticed the fish was slightly smaller pieces. Maybe it was just a different chef??? Will definitely go back but sit at the sushi counter.

OK, this was my first visit to Tha Joint… heard lots of good things about it and it’s practically around the corner from my sister’s house. So we thought we’d give it a try, and are gad we did. Love the stark black & white décor… something about this combo that’s simply timeless, and modern looking at the same time. Service was great. We were seating right away and the waitress was there immediately. All you can eat at tables as well as the sushi bar. Few things that didn’t scream sushi to me… Angry Bird Spicy Chicken… and appetizer offered that was excellent. but spicy as it says. Also tried their Gyoza… which were a bit more like dumplings(too big for Gyoza, and fried). They were OK, but they were dumplings. Their sushi fish was fresh and plated nicely… not just rolls on a plate, but presented differently. Looked great, tasted great. I’ve become a big fan of The Rim at the Grand Sierra, but this place will definitely see me again. Love to try some of he dinner combos offered.

Let me just say how I’ve always love the theme of Tha Joint. Modern black and white. 2 Tha Joint have the same décor except the bar wraps all the way around forming a square in the middle with plenty of tables all around. The menu is the same as the first one and most of the chefs moved over to this one. The sushi was great but it’s a bit noisy here. Our sushi chef had a hard time listening to our orders so that’s a bummer. Regardless of the noise level, they have great sushi and now there’s finally one in Reno.

I’m a fan of the original tha joint in Sparks and was excited to hear that they opened up a second location on Plumb. Tried the ayce lunch today with my husband and we both enjoyed it. We left full and happy. Service was excellent(Haley was our server), all the sushi was fresh and tasty. I like how they can make stuff that isn’t on the menu… salmon skin is one of my faves, which wasn’t on the menu, but they had no problem making it for me. That and the hubby’s request to omit the hot sauce on some of the rolls he ordered. I also like the size of their rolls, the fish to rice ratio is perfect and not overpowered by rice. If you are craving sushi, this is the place to go.

Check this place out! The fish is fresh, the staff is friendly and super fast! The décor is cool and modern! They offer all you can eat! Their rolls are exciting and inventive(they have the standard crystal shrimp, rainbow roll, ect. But they also have a ton of unique combos!) ! What more could you ask for in a restaurant!!! We have loved Tha Joint forever!!! The only problem was that it was so far out in sparks, and we live in galena. So when I heard they are opening a second location on plumb, I thought it was to good to be true! So, we have to investigate!!! We went on a Sunday afternoon at 4:30, the place is HUGE!!! There are so many tables! The bar is huge! And they even have a private room for large parties!!! I’m in heaven! The décor Is similar to the first joint. Very modern prison themed black and white art covering the walls. The staff was very friendly and quite efficient! There were 3 servers handling the 10 full tables, they are tag teaming the whole restaurant, so we never had to search for our server. They had 5(or more) sushi chefs. We ordered quite a few appetizers(goyoza(like a potsticker, yakiton(a cream cheese and seafood filled egg roll! Heaven) angry bird(fried chicken bites with sauce), edamame(steamed soy beans), and 2 miso soups(a broth soup with tufu and green onion)) and a handful of sushi rolls(the joint, the shuznit, the sexy housewife, the outlaw the hit man, and the highway) a large hot saki and some water. Everything came out super fresh and flavorful! The sushi came out super quick, and the staff was very attentive. I have long thought that tha joint had the freshest fish in town! The saki was warm and wonderful. The perfect compliment to our food! We loved our meal! This is our favorite sushi place ever!!! Thank goodness for all you can eat!!! What with how large this restaurant is, there is no more waiting forever for a table, like the one in sparks! Whether you have a date night, or a group of friends wanting to get together, this is the place to go!!! Your taste buds will thank you!!!

AYCE sushi in Reno is like how Starbucks was portrayed on SouthPark. Recently I counted there are at least 40 sushi restaurants in the area, we are essentially oversaturated with it. I appreciate that though, when I want it :) Came here on Saturday for lunch with 2 friends. The same menu is offered for both lunch and dinner, with the lunch price being $ 18.95. It was fairly busy, with the large bar basically accounted for, and being a group of 3, we wanted a table. We had to request more wasabi as between the 3 of us, we barely had any. We ordered mussels and miso to start with. The mussels were a little crispy, but I like them that way too, regardless, no beards and good flavor. The soup was a good version, although I prefer smaller tofu pieces. Between us we ordered 8 rolls, and various orders of nigiri like tuna, krab and unagi. My 3 were: +The five-oh(crystal shrimp, cream cheese, cilantro, avocado, spicy crab and hot sauce) +The BLC(spicy crab, cucumber, tuna shrimp, avocado and spicy sauce) +The O.M.G(spicy tuna, cucumber, cilantro and salmon with lemon sauce, hot sauce) I had ordered these when I visited the original location in Spanish Springs, but as handrolls. I learned I prefer these as handrolls, or need to add lemon to the O.M.G. In general, I just prefer stick krab in the roll rather than the heavily mayo’d versions, and I need to remember to request this from now on. The tuna was good and the krab nigiri is most likely the Marusei brand, which I believe is made in Thailand vs. Japan. It is cheaper than the best brand of Osaki, made in Japan. Anyways, not as good in nigiri as the better brand, it has a slightly different flavor, is a bit more wet and doesn’t pull apart like Osaki. Fellow Unilocaler Jake S. had +The Jail Bait(tempura crab, tempura green onion, seared tuna, avocado, garlic pepper sauce, tempura crunch) +The Outlaw(tempura shrimp, spicy crab, cucumber, salmon, tuna, hamachi, habanero mayo, hot sauce, green onion) +The Sexy Housewife(cooked scallop, pepper powder, salad greens, yellowtail and hot sauce) We ended up having to ask about the Sexy Housewife, which my friend enjoyed, and a chef came out later to try to apologize and give us 10% off, it wasn’t a big deal and we had the check taken care of, so we declined, but we all really appreciated the offer and explanation of them still working the kinks out. While Rachel S. had +The Caterpillar(crab, unagi, cucumber, avocado) +The Frisco(crystal shrimp, cucumber, sliced lemon, salmon, green onion and hot sauce) The lemon in the Frisco was overpowering and cut rather large instead of the sliver you should get so the bitter rind doesn’t take over. They ended up pulling the large hunks out. I mentioned this to the chef as a tip for the future, and he wrote it down and genuinely seemed interested in the feedback. Overall, the meal wasn’t bad, good service especially when a head chef came out from behind the bar. The sushi wasn’t the best I’ve had in town, but it wasn’t the worst. The pieces were fairly large which I don’t prefer when doing AYCE, not even rice wise, the stuffing inside like the mayo crab and spicy tuna too, can get to be too much for one bite. I would come back if invited, but not sure I would come back on my own right now. And the idea of waiting a bit more after they get more in their groove is not ruled out either.

Ahhhh. It’s so romantic. Two lovers, just getting to know each other. The honeymoon phase of a relationship is almost always the best. You want to see them even if they are across town. And that’s what we have here. A great budding romance of the Sushi kind. Have you eaten at tha Joint? Then you will know what to expect. I hadn’t been to tha Joint in Sparks in awhile because there are just so many good places to choose from between there and my home. But now. I have one a bit closer, and also nearer to where I find myself more often. The layout of the place is nice. Lots of bar space and enough bar seating.(if you ever were in Hamdogs(RIP), the layout hasn’t been messed with much. But the quality of service even on the«first minute officially open» holds no ghosts from tenants past. The owners know what they are doing. Putting out great quality sushi and good prices is something they always strive to do. And being the first through the door and the first customers today the Owner treated us to a couple of their higher level desserts! Really cool of him to do that. I liked the Banana Mousse a lot. The green tea crème brûlée is full of flavor and uniquely presented. Both are totally worth getting. And some day I am gonna go in for a meal that isn’t AYCE sushi. They have some great dinner combos that look awesome. $ 25 for an app, a main and a dessert! Add some of that unfiltered Sake I had today and we are good 2 go. Anyway. If you are a sushi hound like I am, someone whose been to them all. You will be happy with«2 tha Joint». And really who wouldn’t want a second honeymoon?
