Recommendation — Do not come here!
I purchased a groupon deal here for haircut, wash, coloring & deep conditioning this past Sunday. When I arrived, I was charged an additional $ 20 for having long hair. The groupon itself does not state that there would be additional charges. I paid the extra amount in hopes of having a good haircut.
Haircut = Terrible/​Unsanitary. When the comb and hairclip dropped on the floor, the lady (Lucy) re-​used the same ones for my hair. During the haircut, I asked for her to thin my hair in which she did. After she finished blowdrying my hair, I asked if she could fix my haircut to give me layers because what I wanted was a straight cut with layers, but she refused to and her reasoning was my hair was already dried.
Today, I realized that there were chunks of my hair cut short, in comparison to my straight haircut, which means she messed up thinning my hair. (which is why I’m writing my first Unilocal review)
Coloring — I have really dark brown hair. I asked for medium brown or for a light brown shade. The roots on my hair ended up being more orange than brown.
Unfortunately, I have to get another haircut and re-​dye my hair in order to fix the mess that was created at this hair salon.
Lesson of the day = cheaper is not always better.

My 1^st time here an it has been wonderful. Lucy really knows what she is doing. Very friendly and gives best advice on your hair. Will definitely be coming back.

Only one person working on a sunday. Couldn’t get an appointment the whole day. They say they take walk ins, but clearly they dont!

I have been coming here for years and always have a solidly good experience. I have a very erratic work schedule, so it’s great to know I can call here and get an appointment for the same or following day. Other nearby salons laugh at me and try to book me for three weeks in the future.
Lucy is very competent, and her cuts and color have always been exactly what I asked for. The first time I colored my hair, I had a ton of questions, but she answered them all patiently, and never made me feel stupid (again, I’m looking at you, other Rego Park beauticians). She made sure I liked the color and wrote the name/​number of the shade down for me so that I could ask for it again if I wanted to. I like the way she cuts my layers, and how she always confirms everything with me several times before breaking out the shears. I also love how fast the service is– for my last haircut, I was in and out in under a half hour!
Lucy is very friendly, open, and down to earth, and will entertain you with neighborhood news or amusing anecdotes about her family while she cuts your hair. She remembers details about her clients beyond their hairstyle, which is nice.
I’ve read some of the other reviews here, and I’m not quite sure what people are expecting… to be served champagne and have their individual strands of hair dried with embroidered silk towels? Then go to a snobby salon and pay $ 90 for the exact same haircut I got at the Lemon Tree for $ 23. Seriously, the prices can’t be beat.

They are very flexible with appointments, always do a great job. The manager Lucy is friendly and engaging. Always a positive experience getting my haircut here.

i had a groupon which would expire soon. I wen before 3oo pm at time of my appointment and the manager was blow drying someone elses hair, and there was one other customer. The place is dingy and old looking. Hardly a customer in there. Then Lucy washed and conditioned — my hair– but I was left with conditioner as she cut and blew out another customer. So i waited until like 4 pm to have her finish my hair which is like a waste of time and I felt irritated. from the non stop chatter and loud conversations. It was taking too long for my comfort but I knew I would get nasty response so I was nice and patient. Then she cut my hair but was whistling and singing loud right near my ear… then and started to blow dry. and then she was blowdrying and talking on her cell phone like there times loud right near my are which was rude and irritating. That is real poor service. lousy eperience. I looked at the haircut today and i dont like it– its choppy and not so well blended.. plus i asked lucy to trim out the grey side burns which looked too thick– she said to color them– ive had dozens of short haircuts in past where cutter trims out nicely and i dont need color job– and the bangs are alittle too short– the grey is showing on both sides– her technique and style not good-​so I wont go back and it was not worth the time spent or the $ 20.

Love it here! Lucy does a great job! She was honest and patient while I asked all my questions! Will definitely come back! 100% recommended! :)

I checked out this salon thru an offer on Groupon. Initially, I was going in for highlights, but ended up just having my hair colored because my roots were very overgrown. Lucy guided me each step of the way. We selected a very pretty auburn/​blonde. I love the color! The haircut was shaped nicely, but a little on the short side. She even stayed late and entertained all of my questions. A couple of minor things could have enhanced the experience: offer a towel for drips and water in ears, on the shampoo, a little gentler and slower would have been a bit more relaxing… otherwise, my experience was very good.

I love this salon lovely atmosphere. I have been going here for 18 years. My hair always comes out looking fabulously I wouldn’t change it for the world. The staff is great and friendly. The hair dressers listen to what the customers wants. Unlike some other salons where the hair dresser does to what is easy or use too. I would recommend people to go there. It’s very important to get what the customers wants and not what a hairdresser is use to. And the lemon is always honest and loyal and gives the customer what they want.

Love this Lemon Tree! Everyone is great! They do a great job and always going out of their way to accommodate my appointment even on a short notice! I always leave the salon happy! They always offer coffee and cookies also. Very warm atmosphere. Using only great products as well!

I use to love going to lemon trees & getting my haircut with Ana! She’s fantastic and always used to cut my hair exactly how I like/​asked for. I’m a picky customer and never left disappointed with Ana. I even brought my mother to get a pixie cut with Ana and as usual… great work! This place is definitely worth the visit for Ana only… Lucy is rude and once cut my hair in October 2014 when Ana was away and did a subpar job… I’ve moved out of state and am therefore no longer going but Ana is worth it if you can go!

I must say I love the people that work here and I always gotten excellent service.

This place is a nightmare.
The owner, or at least the plump middle-​aged/​old woman who owns or manages it with the dark hair is INCOMPETENT AND DOES NOT PAY ATTENTION to customers, only select regulars. Everyone else is rushed in and out. I’ve seen this on more than one occasion. I come here only when I’m desperate and already in the area visiting my family.
First, the woman who’s most often here to cut hair is more concerned with TALKING to anyone about anyone and anything rather than focusing on cutting and styling your hair. during the duration of your haircut, you will hear about her daughter, her complaints, etc. as she pays scant attention to your hair.
In addition, this will cost you upwards of $ 20 and NO it doesn’t include a blowdry. It does include a rough shampoo and conditioning job and botched haircut.

Lemon Tree has a great reputation but this branch does not live up to it. It’s considered a «Family Salon» but when I called to asked if they would cut my child’s hair, I was given the feeling that it was not something they normal do.
The first time I went there it was just after 9am on a Sunday (they open at 9). There was no one there and the stylish was able to take my son right away, he was 1.5 years old. I told the stylist that I had a coupon and was pulling it up in my phone when she stopped me and told me it had to be printed out. I didn’t take this well because of two things. 1) In this day and age how can a popular chain store not accept a viral coupon especially one that is directly located within their own Lemon Tree website for all to use and has an expiration date of Dec 2014 (that was in a year from when I first went!). 2) Fine, for some reason you need a print out. Ok, but the stylist could have said it in a way that was not rude. She came off with a «Nope sorry. Too bad. Take it or leave it.» kind of attitude. If my son didn’t badly need a haircut that I’ve been putting off for months, I would have left. Interestingly enough, a stylist with a bad attitude did not translate into a bad haircut. I like the outcome of my son’s hair.
So this passed weekend i wanted to get my son a haircut before his 2^nd birthday and decided to come back here. I called in the morning to ask when they closed. The stylist asked when I was thinking if coming. I said 5:30pm. She asked if I could come by 5pm. I said depends on when my son wakes up from his nap. My son woke up early enough and I got to the salon at 5:05pm and they told me they just closed. Mind you there was a lady still getting her hair done at the time. I told them that I had called earlier and that they told me to come by 5pm and I did. The stylist had the nerve to say «yes you did call… in the morning.» What in the world does that mean? Yes I called in the morning, of the same day! Was I suppose to call back? I get it, no one wants to stay later then they have to but if you spoke to a customer and gave them a time, I would think you would take them. So let’s say the stylist had made plans or something… then say so. Don’t be a rude, refuse business and make your customer feel shitty. Thanks for the awful service Lucy!
Customer service is far from good. If you want cheap prices but don’t mind the attitude, they sure come here. I tried to give them a second chance after the first bad impression but their absolute disregard for customer service is enough to get me to shell out extra to go to a different salon. If the initial haircut was not good, I would have gave this location 1 star.

I called ahead to find out how much for a blow out and was told $ 17. I came in with my hair already washed and still wet (I use special shampoo to keep my blonde hair light). I had my hair blow dryer which was great! It really looks wonderful, but when I got to the register I see the slip says $ 22 for shampoo & blow style. I asked why it waste and she said «honey you have a lot of hair». Yes my hair is thick but it’s short, it doesn’t even come to my shoulders so why the $ 5 up charge?! It’s not like they used any shampoo or conditioner. I will not go back!

I recommended this place to my boyfriend for a quick haircut. It was early afternoon on a Tuesday, and after we checked their hours posted online, and noted they were opened from 10:00AM to 6:00 PM, he took a walk over there. As he walked up to the door, he noticed no one was in the salon, so it seemed like he would have the place to himself. So he was rather surprised when he reached for the door to have the lady inside lean over and lock him out. There may have been a number of reasons for why they could not take a client, but an appropriate way yo handle it would be to inform the client you are unable to serve them today for whatever reason when they walk in, or to at least tape a sign up on the door explaining that you are unavailable. Locking the door on your clients during hours you claim to be open is an incredibly rude and disrespectful practice. Due to their poor customer relations, I would not go back to this place or recommend them to anyone else.
