Fresh Value Marketplace

Wow they have a huge selection of Ben and Jerry’s. Most supermarkets don’t carry as many flavors as Fresh Value does. This place is constantly improving its image and variety. The big guy who runs this place always makes the experience all the more better and continuously improves this supermarket.

Okay, if you are the type of natural foods shopper who really, truly does not turn up your nose at shopping at a 7-​Eleven, or an Aldi, or a bodega; and you’ve lived in the neighborhood (s) of Rego Park/​Forest Hills/​Kew Gardens nearly continuously for nearly 3 decades thus far. But you are suddenly a victim of mistaken identity (I’ve been on a running several-​days’ streak, recently!) — and thus – out of the blue – not wanted in a certain category killer organic/​health foods megamarket; then, this is your place. I’ve never, ever been treated with any kind of snobbery, suspicion or disdain at Fresh Value.
A word about condos in Rego Park? It seems to me, actually, the closer to the projected condo-​building action the less prejudiced/​parvenu they behave … So, if you are not spiffily dressed, and look obviously well heeled – this could be a new rule of thumb for me. [Even if only for the fact that management often has their ducks in a row in stores that don’t have to «try harder to please new gentry».] A case in point (but in Forest Hills): Note that the Key Food in the same building as that fancy Aston condo; have people working there who are more-​than-​decent to us regular folks … However, as with a magnetic field, simple human decency on the part of a store, could be weaker hundreds of yards away …
I don’t have to and certainly don’t want to romanticize or rehash any scenes from a certain Spike Lee movie to imply anything or to tell you that this goes on even in these liberal, post-​3^rd-​wave-​gentrifying neighborhoods. I would provide an update when the time is ripe.
I hate to be the on-​the-​rebound reviewer here on Unilocal; and I’m not. I’ve been a customer of Fresh Value for nearly 2 years because I frequent this neighborhood.
I wish this place every success. I can’t believe some of the nice prices. Like 7-​Eleven, they even have old movies on a rack. And anything small and convenient that you could need. They beat out pricewise some stores much closer to where I live. Their boxed salads are superb. Unpackaged produce quality is variable, but has been getting better.
Overall, the store is great!

Update 03÷05÷16:
Stopped in to get a quick bite to eat before going to pick up my wife’s cousin at the airport.
Picked a sampling of the fresh sandwiches and a couple of European specialty products.
The sandwiches werw fresh and delicious.
The French madeleine cookies we got are the real deal. My wife’s cousin really likes them, he says it’s great to have a taste of home and is surprised to see that product in the US.
We will look to FV for specialty products in future, they are clearly not amateurs when it comes to this type of thing. We love the craft beers too.

No bullshit, this place is expensive. But you know the old saying, «You get what you pay for.» They have the freshest, best tasting fruit I’ve had anywhere. Good selection of hard to find beers too. You might want to strap a mattress on your back for when you faint looking at some of the prices but well worth it to me.

Prices are never updated on their system. If you do not check it manually, you will be paying more than you have to. A product with $ 4 price tag may show up $ 7 on their system. Make sure you double check all the items that they scan at the register.

This is the best little neighborhood grocery in this section of Rego Park. They carry lots of high end specialty items and the customer service is awesome. I once mentioned I liked the dog treats they carried and they said they would restock just for me (and they did!)
This place charges a little more than Key Foods or the Met– but it delivers with items that you can’t find at those shops. I’ll happily pay a little more as long as they keep stocking great hard to find items like Jeni’s ice cream (Buckeye State!)

If anyone ever decides to stop by for organic goods, excellent prices and perfect sub sandwiches, this is the place to be. Customer service is perfect, everything is organized, very friendly employees too! This place has everything you’ll need when it comes to healthy eating and other goods too! Late night sandwiches are amazing here. After a night out, this is the spot to go to for food. Quick, has everything you need. Price isn’t that bad.

I am delighted to know there’s an organic market nearby me! Yay! They aren’t by any means WF status with a wide selection of fresh organic produce though. For example, they don’t have any leafy greens except the packaged ones. I am not a fan of packaged greens and like them by the bunch. I will keep searching for a store that does in rego park (new resident). –1 star is for some items close to/​and expired on shelves ;x

This place was great. The clerks were helpful, informative and polite. The shop was bright, clean and tidy. Their sandwich was tasty. I tried many times when I need to grab some lunch. They also sell chips and cheese, shielded of liquor and drinks. Also organic deli

This place is amazing! The clerks and the deli guys are super friendly. If you’re looking for a good one-​stop shop to get quality, wholesome groceries, this is the place to go. Excellent ‘alternative’ options, vegan options, vegetarian options, they carry lots of local brands, fresh and local produce, and they maintain an AWESOME craft beer selection. Oh, and btw, they’re ²⁴⁄₇!

I was recently in Queens visiting friends and I had the good fortune of finding Fresh Value Marketplace. It is a great organic market with all of my favorite things in one place! The store is clean and beautiful and the selection is wonderful. Lots of vegan and gluten free and specialty options. The prices seemed very reasonable for the quality of the items being offered.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. I also met one of the owners on my visit who is very enthusiastic about his business and eager to make sure that they have what you are looking for.
I would recommend this market to anyone in the area… it is definitely worth stopping in.

Two words: Beer selection. Omigawd. Still trying to try them all. I definitely think they have the greatest beer selection.
Besides that, they’ve got a great vegan stuff, albeit a bit on the pricey side. Lots of alternative choices, food and drink you just don’t find anywhere else.
They are great at late night shopping which I do quite often.
Why did I leave off that one star? Deli. Might as well replace it with some shelves. Sure they can make me a sandwich, but it should be tastier than the one I make!

Customer service is great as someone noted. I’ve been trying to find Fentiman’s Rose Lemonade in the area and while Fresh Value didn’t carry the specific flavor, I made a request with them and hope to be getting my daily fix of it shortly.
I like their selection of organic and fancy snacks. It’s great to have this store within walking distance as well!

Just went to this place in Queens!!! Loved the store! It has amazing variety of organic food. I don’t know why people complain about the prices. The quality of the food was far better than Trader Joes. They get their stuff directly from Organic suppliers unlike TJs therefore their quality was amazing!!! The produce was fresh and their cheese selection, oil, peanut butter, almond butter and frozen food selection was off the hook! As a practicing MD I definitely recommend this store to anyone who’s looking for healthy quality organic food.

They have a good selection of organic and vegetarian items. Keep an eye on expiration dates though — more than once, I’ve found expired items on the shelves and the lovely breads in the open section have been a touch more than day-​old tasting. But overall, excellent selection for a local organic store. Wonderful big amount of teas. They’re really helpful too.

If you’re in Forest Hills/​Rego Park, Queens area and looking for something in particular it’s probably in Fresh Value. If they don’t carry it, they will probably find a way to get it for you.
They have AMAZING customer service, and they really go out of their way to make sure every customer is satisfied.
We were looking for a particular Steve’s Ice Cream flavor and they started carrying a couple of them, so we asked and they added two more flavors to their stock just for us :) — they completely won us over with that one
This is probably the only place in Queens were you can buy Brooklyn’s Famous Steve’s Ice Cream

Majorly expensive. This deli thinks it’s in Upper Manhattan during the ‘80s. Still, there’s some good points. Cleaner looking than the Key Food further down. They sell Zapp’s Potato Chips from Louisiana. Those chips reminds me of New Orleans.
It’s best selling point: it’s 24 hours, and right behind the Q39 bus stop.

Small supermarket with a small variety of cheeses, veggies and meats. There is also a decent selection of packaged nuts. I think this place is going for slightly gourmet/​organic, nicer food, but with the likes of Met Food and other markets just down the block, it’ll be hard to compete if they don’t lower their prices on their food.

This store recently opened, renovated from what once was Hollywood Videos. The renov gave it a fresh look akin to Whole Foods, which is great looking.
It is spacious compared to the other 2 stores in the area (Met and Key Food).
Although once you look through the store, you would wonder what they’re competing against? They have a small selection of produce, which aren’t fresh. The green/​red/​orange pepper were starting to wrinkle and were soft. You’re better off getting them at the Korean store up the block for half the price at that stage of «freshness».
There is a deli inside, with lots of room inside the fridge for more content, but it isn’t filled up yet. It is the same selection as Met. There is a separate shelf of a huge cheese selection near the front of the store, away from the deli though. That is the only thing that stood out for me.
The rest of what they are selling looks like they’re thrown together randomly. Sure the product they were selling looked great and seems to be good branding, I’m not sure the price is competitive enough for the area to stay as a grocery store. It is a disappointing experience thus far.
I will be sure to go back when the place has more mileage because it has potential.
