As a pizza chain pretty good. But for some reason the one on Haight st. JUSTTASTESBETTER. Perhaps this is because after a long day of walking a greasy crunch slice of garlic, pesto, potato pizza is the only think you can think about. Just sayin. But for a good thin crust pizza this place ain’t bad. Next to the theater is nice, sometimes over run by teeny boppers though. Oh yeah, and New York pizza does not taste like this. If I want a sweet NYC pizza I go to sweet NYC.

Pizza deserves a 3, but service deserves a 0.157 Pizza was adequate for pizza by the slice, but the service was horrible(and it wasn’t crowded — we were the only people in there when we arrived.) Angry young women behind the counter, wielding their power with bitter glares, rushed questions, and shoved plates. They started to drain our happy vibes just generated from watching Wall-E. But we did enjoy our pizza slice. And décor is fun, although lots of trash on the floor.

It was alright. Came here on a Friday night b/c I was supposed to watch Indiana jones at the movie theater but it ended up being sold out. I was starving and ordered two slices of cheese pizza. Typical NY style thin crust pizza, the crust was pretty crispy. Maybe a little too crispy and over cooked. Pretty good amount of sauce and cheese. Its more of that sour tangy taste rather than that sweet marinara type tasting sauce. Tons of people everywhere, service was pretty fast, but the place wasn’t that clean, didn’t see anyone cleaning up after people leaving, I guess they just trust you to clean up after yourself. Would I come back here again for the pizza? Probably not, unless it was only out of convenience(I just reviewed gino’s pizza in sf, this place is a little better than that) did my cheese stretch? nope. :( Beard papa’s is a couple doors down. Another plus.

Had pizza by the slice the first time I came here, it was AWESOME, but then I had pizza by the pizza and it wasn’t as awesome. I think the main difference between the two was that the first pizza I had was mushroom and so not too greasy, leaving the crust nice and crisp and perfect. The second pizza was the andy warhol(pesto, mushrooms & tomatoes) and so it was pretty greasy leaving the crust kinda soggy. The staff is kinda weird in that fun way, and I was amused when I looked up to see a HUGEMONKEYBUTT!

The pizza wasn’t horrible I just wouldn’t go here again just for the pizza. With that being said it’s a great place to grab a quick bite before the movie if you’re in a pinch. My husband and I wanted to see Iron Man(great movie) and we were going to go see the 5:15 show because we both had to work the next day, we were both hungry after work and instead of getting popcorn we decided to try the pizza. It’s great in a pinch like this but I wouldn’t just drive to the RC just for that pizza. Long story short, it gets the job done when you’re hungry. We got the two pizzas slices and a small soda for $ 6. 50 or something like that and it was a good deal, the slices were huge so next time I will just get one slice and a drink if I’m by myself or my husband and I will split the pizza deal.

Above average pizzas. Slightly low on salt. When I go to such local places, I look for some unique flavors, even if its simple cheese pizza. Here, the sauce and cheese tasted above ordinary, but not exceptional. Good place for a bite, if you are in the vicinity. But not worth a special visit IMO

3.5 stars because the guy behind the counter gave us a slice for free! It tastes better than it looks. I ding them a star for not having it «hot» and another star for not having the chicken wings! I know, what’s up with wanting chicken wings at a pizza joint but damn it, it was on the menu! Maybe that’s why he gave us the 2nd slice for free — he mumbled something about it’s too small a charge to bother, ok — good with me! We had the gourmet chicken? and it was not bad but I think the veggie one was a little better. Anyway, I like thin crust pizza and this did the trick — a little snack to get us through until dinner. This is definitely one of the best options available in downtown RWC.

Who would want to Escape from New York Pizza when it’s the best thin crust in town?! Crispy, light, tasty. The pizza here wasn’t greasy to me at all. The«You Say Potato» slice is my favorite. The roasted potatoes and garlic over pesto hit the spot. One thing missing from this place was the parmesan cheese shaker that you normally see on the table with the red peppers.

My wife liked this place better than I did. The crust was perfect, crispy and light, and pretty much melted in your mouth. However, it was a little lacking in flavor, the sauce and cheese lacked the punch of say, Pizza My Heart or something along those lines. I’m not a big fan of sweet sauces and this one wasn’t up my alley. Way too many hormonal 15 year olds running around like pimps and hoes for me, on a Friday night.

Not bad. Our pizza could have used some salt. I can’t remember much since I was so happy from sneaking a bottle of wine(screw cap) in from Cost Plus World Market.

This isn’t a bad place to get a cheap, fast bite to eat in downtown RWC. Their pizzas are a bit greasy(so are a lot of pizzas) but they’re better than average. The crust was thin(NY style, I presume) and crunchy throughout. They have about half a dozen pre-made pizzas to choose from every day(buy by the slice, prices range from $ 2.67 for cheese up to $ 3.55 for the pie of the day) or they’ll cook up a whole 14, 16 or 20 inch pie for you. They have some less run of the mill toppings too, such as feta, applewood smoked bacon, artichokes, roasted garlic, potato, and BBQ chicken. I like how they warm your slice in the oven for you and they have plenty of condiments to add to the slice(e.g., grated parmesan, chili flakes). Soda is self-serve(all you can drink!) and you can also grab a pre-made salad from the refrigerated case. The salads are pretty good actually. Fresh ingredients, your choice of Newman’s Own dressings. Almost all of the salads come with yucky black olives though. There are plenty of seats, tables and stools, so it’s good for groups. Feels like a cafeteria though. Credit cards accepted. Note, this is Escape From NY Pizza’s only non-SF location.

I would Escape from New York more often if Escape From New York could Escape From Lord of the Flies. Too, too, too many kids here reinventing society without the strictures of civilization for me to enjoy the reasonably good pizza.

All you gotta say is… Potato Roasted Garlic Pesto Pizza… and I will gladly extend a heartfelt and sturdy middle finger up towards DR. ATKINS! YOUBASTARD! Carbs on carbs make for crack on deliciousness. Aw man, this pizza is SOGOOD. Just like the rest of their pizzas, their toppings are innovative, not too heavy, fresh, and yuuuummy. Their crusts are crisp and thin but not hard and don’t cut up the roof of your mouth when you chew. The pizza is slightly too hot to eat right away which makes it the perfect temperature the whole slice through until you get to the end. Ahhh… pizza heaven. Not to mention, their field greens salad was fresh and they offer a great variety of dressings(mostly our beloved Newsman’s organics) to go alongside the fresh cherry tomatoes, dried cranberries, and crisp bell peppers. Why the 3 stars you ask? Simple. Bitchy worker behind the counter giving me the death stare while my(very indecisive) 12-year-old brother scans the huge menu and tries to figure out if he wants the one with 4 kinds of meat or 3 kinds. «Sorry, he’s deciding» I explain and look behind me to check if there are any pissed of patrons. Oh wait… what? You mean there’s nothing waiting behind me except for a huge cloud of flour dust floating quite contently in the sunlight? I see… then there’s no reason for you to act like I’m wasting your precious time when you’re getting paid to stand there and do nothing. No star for you! Second star off for the fact that I had to use the side of my shoe to sweep some toilet paper that had managed to migrate out into the hallway in front of the bathroom and was slowly making its way towards the eating area. Hey cranky pizza girl! Maybe when you’re not standing there flirting with the delivery boy or being a bitch, you could pick up a broom and make sure piss-stained toilet paper doesn’t make its way into the eatery. I’m not one for«ambience» or other pretentious words like that… but I stick with my motto for life… «DON’T be a DICK»… and enjoy your pizza!

It’s chain pizza, but it’s not bad chain pizza. They also do sandwiches, and the italian sausage is pretty good — it’s a big italian sausage, smothered in pizza sauce & cheese. Tasty, but messy & hard to eat — it tries to escape the bun. There’s also a skyscraper model with a King Kong on it in the middle of the room, which is kind of wacky/tacky/cheesy.

3.5 stars. Great selection of New York pizza slices to choose from — I counted about 10 different ones when I was there, including one original I had never seen — pesto pizza. Slices ranged from cheese $ 2.50 to $ 3.50 for combo toppings and they give you a HUGE piece that overflows the sides of a paper plate. The cheese slice was pretty decent with good sauce and you could fold it in half as real NY pizza should be. Decided to try a pesto slice since it was so different — the pesto sauce was good but after a while, it definitely needed something else to go with it — like some chicken on top(which is a combo option) to go with the pesto sauce. Nothing against the pesto slice, but I think I prefer the tanginess of a tomato-based sauce better. The crust is hand tossed(saw a woman in the back tossing the dough for a new pizza) but the crust could use a bit more flavor. Modern and clean place with hip hop music blaring in the background. Located conveniently next to the Century theaters in downtown Redwood City. Bottom line: Decent NY pizza place. Great slice selection including the unique pesto one. Not the best NY pizza I’ve had but I’d come back.

Im still searching the area for an excellent NY style slice which led me to try this place the other day when I was a bit short on time The pizza is decently tasty but the crust is a bit too thick for me. Cheese and pepperoni were pretyt good but I wish the slices were heated a little longer since they felt lukewarm halfway through the meal. For $ 7, it’s still a pretty decent deal for a quick filling lunch. 3.5 stars.

Good if you work/live nearby, but not worth a special trip. Slices are between $ 2.50 and $ 3.50 each, or there is a 2 slices of cheese & soda for $ 4.95, the same but with pepperoni is $ 6.50 ish. they have options with side salad too. Sauce wasn’t quite as sweet as I wanted, the crust was just-right, thin but not that super-thin(once you got a few bites in you can hold in with one hand). The place is very clean, people are nice, and I liked the upbeat music piped in. BUT… I really don’t like when I bite in and all the cheese separates and flops off. Not good if you’re trying to play it cool for your lunch date! ;) Update: I’ve been back a disturbing amount of times… I’ve decided it can be the perfect combination, with the one slice-small salad combo. Yummy slice of pizza to satisfy the devil on my shoulder… and a salad to satisfy the angel on my other shoulder! No more cheese sliding off issues… Salads are great: not the typical gross little side salad, but instead have actual fresh vegetables that aren’t from a 10 lb premixed iceberg lettuce bag. They have I think two different mixed salads, a spinach salad, and a ceaser salad.

I would never have known about this place if it wasn’t for Uncle Beard Papa. One of my favorite places to go to is Beard Papa’s Cream Puffs which is a few doors down. Now, eating cream puffs for lunch isn’t exactly the best thing to do, so I ate pizza first. Pizza and cream puffs is much better for lunch than just cream puffs alone. Or, at least, that’s what I like to believe. I stopped by to see what they have and what they do have is a big pizza-by-the-slice display shelf. The pizza’s looked great. However, if authenticity is important to you, then you might want to think of skipping this place. This is kind of like a mix between New York style and CPK style. They had different pizzas with different toppings like artichokes, spinach, sun dried tomatoes, and the always«carb-friendly» slice, potato with pesto sauce. The crust is reminiscent of New York style, but had a distinctly different taste. Not a bad taste, but different. I paid about $ 3 or $ 3.50 for each slice, so it’s not exactly cheap. But, the slices are big enough that you don’t have to get 2 slices. In fact, you probably shouldn’t. I mean, look at my picture, you can tell I eat a lot and even I couldn’t finish 2 slices. But, it sure was fun trying! This place is hard to find parking, too. If you’re one of the lucky ones that find a spot in front of the shop, then give yourself a pat on the back. If not, just park at the meters about a block over. P. S. If you do decide to go here, don’t forget to pick up some vanilla bean cream puffs or eclairs at Beard Papa’s for dessert!

3.5 stars. Huh. Surprisingly good slice. Had low expectations and it was actually good. Crispy crust after it came out of the reheat. Right balance of cheese and sauce. $ 2.75 for a good size slice. A friend of mine would say that it was not greasy enough to be called«New York». But I don’t need to have my lips slide off each other for an hour post-provender. As long as it has the right moisture point.
