Since our doors opened in 1980, we have strived to provide phenomenal evaluation, therapy and educational support that enables our clients to overcome unique challenges. Through individualized multi-sensory treatment plans, clients gain meaningful skills and confidence with the focus on their specific goals and learning style.

Members of our staff hold advanced degrees in Speech and Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy and Behavioral Therapy with expertise in learning disabilities. We also have Certified Arrowsmith Teachers that completed the most up-to-date training in Canada. In our preschool program, individual goals are aligned with California state standards and Common-Core proficiencies. Speech and Language Pathologists instruct our infant-toddler developmental classes, as well as our preschool classes.

We serve many communities including: San Francisco, Millbrae, San Bruno, Burlingame, Hillsborough, San Mateo, San Carlos, Redwood City, Belmont, Foster City, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, Menlo Park, Atherton, San Jose, Mountain View, Los Altos, and Cupertino.

History

Established in 1980.

ALLS has grown from an office of three Speech and Language Pathologists to now offering various specialties and programs. Under the direction of Pamela Joy, Founder and CEO, ALLS has been successful in meeting the needs of families in the San Francisco Bay Area.

ALLS is based in Redwood Shores, and has a South Bay office in Sunnyvale. The Arrowsmith Program Cognitive Learning Center is located in Redwood Shores, which can accommodate learners from ages 6−80+. Arbor Bay School is conveniently located in San Carlos and serves children from grades K-8.

Pam is a Licensed Speech and Language Pathologist, and has extensive education in Speech Pathology and Audiology. Pam is a Clinical Rehabilitation Specialist whom has taken advanced training in working with Learning Disabilities (LD), preschool language, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, adolescent social interactions, academic tutoring, parenting skills, group therapy, vocal disorders, stuttering, Oral-Motor Dysfunction, and swallowing difficulties.

Susan is fantastic! This is only our second visit, my son already loves her and kept asking me” where is Susan? Where is Susan? It is time to meet her! «when we were at home. I bought the collection of Dora’s explorer, his favorite cartoon character this afternoon. Susan told the Dora’s backpack first, then started to play interactive games w/him. They talked back and forth, occasionally, Susan tickled him and he couldn’t help but laughing together a lot. In such a wonderful atmosphere, my son was so engaged, became super talkative, answered many questions, initiated his own topics w/Susan. As a mom, I can’t express by words what a heart warming scene to watch them together. It is obvious Susan has many years in education, more importantly, she is so passionate! Only can passionate, caring educator make it happen! I wanted to use this review to thank her and highly recommend ALS!

My son was diagnosed with autism at one and we have been taking him here for speech therapy. We love his speech therapist and so we decided to enroll him into preschool here as well when he turned three. We loved the amount of care and the amount of learning he received at his preschool. We see rapid improvement in just a short amount of time. He is climbing the jungle gym, going down the slide, and doing things that we thought were impossible for him. He also started talking to other kids and adults now.

In the four months since my son started taking classes at ALLS and seeing a speech therapist privately there he has made so much progress. He essentially had no words when he started and now he can say a lot more and is starting to be able to convey his messages using words and not tantrums.
We have also appreciated how responsive they are to our questions and concerns.
Our son loves going in and has so much fun there he doesn’t want us to stay — we drop him off and he says «bye» and goes running in squealing with excitement.

We had a terrible experience with Associated Learning and Language Specialists. I encourage parents to be very careful about having their children receive services at ALLS. Initially we received decent services by an experienced therapist, but after some time our son was placed with a speech therapist with virtually no experience who was negative about our child and actually tried to get services through our insurance provider canceled. Anyone who is getting services at ALLS through an insurance provider should quickly find alternative services for their child as the same thing could happen to their child. We are appealing this decision now but were very disappointed with the unprofessional way we were treated and how our son was negatively targeted. The therapist being young and inexperienced was only focused on protecting herself and instead of helping our child was worried about how the insurance provider would judge her abilities. When we escalated to the Director, she was unaware of what happened and not involved in the decision and apologized but after she saw this Unilocal review she changed course and backed up the decision. It was so disheartening to see professional therapists focus on themselves and not a special child like our son and a warning for all parents of special children considering ALLS.

Our son received the best care here and they worked with us when it came time to make a change and they were extremely fair in regards to prorated refunds and the return of the deposit waiving the termination fees etc. They care so much for the kids snd our son made so much progress at ALLS we’d highly recommend the school to anyone who has a child with a speech delay or dealing with any other developmental delay. Good Therapists, Bad Accounting!
We had a good experience with their therapists, but they ruined this when the insurance changed to an out-of-network provider. They were very uncooperative and didn’t want to deal with the new insurance at all. Moreover, I found that they charge private pay customers 50% more than insurance companies! I offered to pay them directly the same contractual amount they were charging the in-network insurance, since that’s what they were getting anyway before the insurance change, but they refused claiming that would be unfair to their private payers! Considerate medical providers normally provide discounts to clients out of insurance, not the other way around. In general, their billing is messed up and they claim one hour sessions even for sessions 40 minutes or less. This is unfortunate, since they can be more successful with some sensible accounting.

My son has been attending ALLS for group therapy through early intervention services, and has been thriving in their infant-toddler class. When he began, he didn’t talk much and had zero peer social skills (which led to lots of hitting and aggression out of frustration), but over the months he has become incredibly verbal and LOVES playing with his friends! He’s done so well in the program that I’ve enrolled him in their newly created transitional preschool (for ages 3 – 5) so they can continue to develop his skills using familiar and successful tactics.
The staff is all great and truly cares about the kids. They all seem to know my son’s name even if he’s not in their class (hmm, maybe this tells me something’s wrong with my kid) and he gets so excited to come to both preschool and «little school.» They allow observations so parents can view their children behind a one way mirror, and truly confirm that the little tyrant you have at home can be an angel with the teachers. My only qualm is that there isn’t really any notice when kids age out (at age 3) of the program, so some of my son’s best playmates have all of a sudden disappeared, and I have no way to reach them to arrange for outside play dates.
If you’re unlucky enough to have a toddler who doesn’t talk early on, take them to ALLS and you may soon be the lucky recipient of a child you pray will shut up!

My son showed noticeable progress in his language and play skills almost immediately after he started attending ALLS. I wish we had found out about ALLS sooner.
Teacher Didem is very fun and energetic. Her assistants are nice and caring. Their classroom is organized and clean. They have a restroom inside the classroom with tiny toilets and sink for the little people — So CUTE.
There are also other therapists within the building who work together with families and children. The staff here are all great. Occasionally, there will be informational classes for parents to attend to learn, connect, or just vent.
I am very happy with ALLS. There are just two things that I wish are better: 1) there’s not enough parking spots and 2) parents need to stop sending their sick kids to class.

What is the best form of advertising? Word of mouth. What is the greatest compliments one can give to a business? The referral and recommendation to others. I am doing both.
My experience with the program is unforgettably limited to six months. Short as that seems with in two weeks of entering the program my son got that point that every parent wants and does not want, He would not shut up. My son has a speech delay that limited his vocabulary to very few words phrases, common things a 2 year old should be saying he was not. He mostly screamed gave nasty bites in frustration mainly to my shoulder as I comforted him…
I have had the pleasure of sitting in one of the group programs «firefly’s» to see if this kind of class room setting would work for my son. I knew it was with in the first 30 min of meeting teacher Didem and seeing how the entire faculty worked so closely with these children and cared so much I could have sworn that one of them could have been her own. I asked were do I sign up.

My son also received one on one speech therapy from Kristy who I can not thank enough for her incredible work she made and the impact she will have on my family the rest of my life. I am for ever grateful to his entire program it is nothing less than perfect. On his last day I picked up my son and walked out quickly so no one would see me cry. My one wish is have the funds able to keep my son here until he is ready for school because this is truly the best.

My son attended an infant-toddler class for a year. I definitely see improvement in his speech and language skills. It is great that he even knows more nursery rhymes than I do! Every month, there is a theme e.g. modes of transportation, farm animals, body parts, colors and shapes, etc. and there is a list of vocabulary and songs to learn. My son loves going… when he was not being hit, kicked, or slapped (see below).
Periodically, ALLS puts on in-service days for parent education. It is great to learn from professionals in their area and connect with other parents whose kids attend ALLS for a variety of reasons. I think the program is just as instructive for kids as the parents i.e. you must bring the things you learn and continue them at home.
1 star off: My only feedback for ALLS is that there are children with bad (almost dangerous) behavior problems and the teachers are non-chalant about correcting their behaviors. I do understand that kids with behavioral problems usually have expressive language problems, and that is probably why they are in ALLS in the first place. There was one kid in my son’s class who would hit, kick, and slap the other kids; one time, he even bruised one of the students’ faces, and another parent commented that he was «scary». The teachers did not make as much of an effort to instruct that kid’s parents, and allowed him to remain in class as usual. I had to be the one to intervene couple times when he was actively hurting my child! This made every parent in the class very uncomfortable until Demon Child finally graduated due to his age.

My son’s teacher suggested we bring him in for an evaluation. I wasn’t sure what to expect… but was pleasantly surprised! Miss Michelle was our therapist. She was wonderful — patient, kind, warm and very knowledgeable. If we ever need to use their services again… I will not hesitate. It was a wonderful experience.
