A&D Automatic Gate and Access is a licensed contractor in California and Nevada that was founded in 1975. We manufacture and install vehicle and pedestrian gates for private residences, multi-family dwellings, and commercial and industrial projects. A&D is the largest access control company in Northern California specializing in automatic vehicle gates, access control systems and parking revenue systems. A&D features a full-time, well staffed service department which offers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year emergency services.

As a means to offer service and installation for all of Northern California and Nevada, we have three offices in California — Redwood City, Pleasanton, and a Sacramento area office located in Lodi — as well as an office in Las Vegas, Nevada. To ensure the personal touch we pride ourselves on, we employ talented sales engineers, installation and service technicians, as well as our own draftsmen and fabricators.

Worst customer service ever! They are trying to rip us off. We just want to change two receivers and the guy changed the timers for us to have the door close sooner.
They charge us $ 681!

Our service technician, Ian, was fabulous. He came out shortly after I requested service and diagnosed the problem accurately. We needed to replace the solar panel. The solar panel was ordered in a reasonable amount of time, and then Ian came back and installed it. He suggested upgrading the wattage of the panel, which we did. As a result, the gate works better than ever before. We are very satisfied with the quality of Ian’s work. He really knows what he is doing!

Terrible customer service. Never called back when they said they were, never alerted me when they were going to show up, and generally just didn’t keep me in the loop. I’m sure they do good work, but they leave a LOT to be desired from a customer service standpoint.

A&D Gate at Domain apartments in San Jose is out of service more often than it’s operational. They come and repair it then within a few days it’s busted again. Over and over again.

Our gate broke down in early December 2014 just when relatives were visiting. I called 4 times and they never came out to repair it. They gave us no reason why they could not come out here. 2 weeks passed without any feed back. We had to call another company to come and repair the gate. When we had the gate installed by A&D, we also signed up for the maintenance program (we paid over $ 100 for this) where they would come out semi-annually to clean up and check the gates. Apparently A&D did not maintain the gate as they were supposed to. It was ill-maintained and not lubricated at all. The motor over-heated and shut down. That was the reason for the gate to malfunction. I do not recommend this company if they are still like this.

A&D installed gates that we ordered a couple of years ago at my office and I must say A&D did an amazing job. I get a lot of compliments on the style of the gates my boss pick out. During the years we had a couple of minor problems and we would contact Joe Nance who was very helpful. He would have a guy come out the same day or it was the next day to fix the minor problem. We also couldn’t figure out the computer system and Joe personally came out to help us understand the program better. Keep up the great work A&D. I’ll definitely recommend others to you.

We bought a house that had a broken gate. We called A&D to give us an estimate for fixing it. They did not have someone to give an estimate available so they sent a serviceman. The serviceman came and said «the gate is broken» (which we knew) but never even provided an estimate for the cost to fix it. We got a bill for $ 150 for the serviceman who (A) did no work, and (B) gave no estimate of the work required and © could not even specify anything more than what we already knew. It has been SEVEN months now and they keep harassing us with the bill and asking us to pay for a charge that we never authorized and a service we never got.
They can’t get their act together. AVOID these guys!

Avoid avoid avoid!
I called them out to replace dead battery in our gate and lubricate the parts. While working on the gate, they broke something causing all of our remotes to stop working.
We asked them to come back and fix the problem. They returned & were able to restore the gate to its original condition, but charged us $ 270 for a service call and the installation of a new antenna.
I have called to complain at least five times and they have refused to cancel the invoice. They finally turned this over to a collection agency and are burying their head in the sand. Horrible attention to detail and even worse customer service.

Wow. These guys are great. I had an emergency. A& D automatic gate company saved the day. Our gate would not open. I had to get the kids. I made a desperate phone call They put me to the top of the service list and Tim was out in 20 short minutes. Not only that he gave me a helpful tutorial about the gates. What a lifesaver.
Yesterday I stopped by the office to pick up emergency keys. ALL of the office staff were friendly AND helpful.

After speaking with them on the phone to come out and do a service call i was appalled to discover their rates for service were 142.00 dollars for 30 minutes and charge every 15 minutes after that. They never asked what was wrong but were sure it would not be cheap…
What a joke…
Oh by the way backed up a week… Like I could wait a week for a gate that doesn’t work…

A&D installed our automatic gate in 2001, when our home was built, and have been providing service ever since. A&D is extremely responsive, sometimes even providing service on the same-day as our call, and have always done excellent work for a fair price. Their knowledge and expertise are outstanding, and we’ve always been extremely pleased with their services. This company has gone out of their way to fix a problem with the lighting on our gate structure. They did not build it but are now maintaining it. Last maintenance, a problem arouse with the gate and landscape lights and they have worked tirelessly to fix the problem.

Unilocal should implement a new rating just for A&D Automatic Gate so I can give them a rating of less than one star. They promised to finish my gate prior to a party and over a year later the job remains unfinished. Three guys showed to work on the gate and just like the city workers, one guy worked while the other two guys watched and talked. The gate was manufactured incorrectly and they tried to Mickey Mouse the install. After months of arguing, they finally fixed the mistake. The installers destroyed my new driveway with their equipment. Don’t believe the one year warranty either, my gate broke three times in the first year and they charged me each time to repair. If you’re stupid enough to use this firm, make sure not to pay in full until the job is completed and they have repaired all the collateral damage.

Have called three times for service on a Telephone Entry and each time I was sent to a Voicemail left three messages and no one called me back. I tried again for a 4^th time and said I do not want to go to voicemail because I was never called back and she mentioned oh right she is on vacation and no one is checking her voicemails (Nice) Then I asked if she could help she wanted to pawn me off on someone else again who is not able to help me. I would not use them for any service or install.

I never write reviews, but I do rely on them so I thought I needed to chime in about the great experience we had with A & D. We had spent a lot of money having a stone wall and fencing put in to enclose our entire yard. The automation of the gates was part of the quote from the fencing company. Turns out their gate guy was really an electrician that was trying to branch out into the gate business. He clearly couldn’t do the job so we were left with a bit of a mess. A & D came in and saved the day! I had another leading local company come out to bid on our mess as well, but A & D showed their experience, integrity and quick response and won the job. They did not disappoint. They job was even done ahead of schedule! If I ever had a question, my call was returned within the hour. I was extremely happy with the work and follow up with my questions!

I have had 3 bad experiences with this company this year. Shame on me for not learning sooner. They have been unable to fix my gate; it keeps breaking down every 3 months … and their service department makes one excuse after another for their inability to repair it. Their solution to everything is to REPLACE the entire unit. I have since had another company come in and fix it. It turns out that it was a small setting on the circuit board that needed adjustment. A&D Automatic Gate simply had the wrong diagnosis.
Now for the horrific part. They charge you $ 135 for a service call. Even if they show up for 5 minutes to take a look, and then tell you that they’ll come back with a new part. This is simply outrageous. Most recently, they came out, charged me for 3 hours of «diagnosis» and were unable to fix the gate. Then they proceed to charge my credit card without my permission. AND ALL THIS FOR A GATE THAT WAS NON-FUNCTIONAL, and I had to call in another company that charged me $ 75 to fix it… and it’s working just fine now!
Their service manager Beverly simply does care. Calls to their Regional Manager and CEO have gone unanswered. I am so incensed by this, I will be taking it up with the Better Business Bureau, and anyone who cares to listen.
Do not deal with them. There are plenty of gate companies with better service technicians, less expensive rates, and better business practices.

I arranged for a resource to come look at my gate as the hydraulic arm wasn’t working correctly. I had understood that if they performed service they would charge a minimum of $ 135 and then an hourly rate beyond.
When the resource came onsite I advised I wanted to make sure we would fix the gate for the long term so I wouldn’t have to fix it again. The resource advised that he could get me a quote for new parts rather than trying to fix the current set up as it wouldn’t be cost effective.
Guy said he would send me a quote and best not to work on anything at that point; spent 10 minutes at my house. He never advised I would be charged.
This company charged me $ 135 for nothing other than to provide a quote for refurbished and new parts, never touching my gate the whole time they were there
When I called to complain about the charge they advised it was my choice not to have him work on the gate so the charge is still due. They called me back and reluctantly credited my account $ 135, that much I have to give them credit for.
I had two other gate companies give me quotes for FREE and spent more time looking at my gate. try Bay Cities they don’t charge to qoute.
