UCLA Health Redondo Beach – Primary & Specialty Care

Had the worst experience, I came in for the removal of a skin tag, a procedure that took all of two minutes and I was out the door. I had paid a 60 $ co-​pay for insurance, no big deal, but a month later I received a bill for 700 $! I was shocked to say the least, since I am a medical professional myself — I know that in most cases, and especially in mine, that this is a very minor procedure. Billing reported this skin tag removal as a breast biopsy, quite extreme for what it truly was, but I understand that tissue removal is considered a biopsy, albeit a skin tag is superficial and not invasive. Anyway, I spoke with Carla at the facility and brought my concerns to her attention, she had me fax her my bill and told me she would speak with the doctor and get back to me. A month later, I still have not heard back. And a lovely surprise today was that my case was submitted to collections. I have had the collections issue cleared after a lengthy discussion with billing, but this issue is so frustrating to me, and goes to show unprofessionalism and a lack of response on UCLA Health’s behalf speaks for their unprofessionalism. I will never return here, and suggest you all think twice before choosing this facility for your care. Big corporations like this do not know how to deal with their patients. You would think that with a big name like UCLA Health, this company would have it together… guess not.

My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Curls as our primary care physician. She has a fresh personality and she is very attentive. What we appreciated about her was her bedside mannerism — she listened to us and educated us on how to better our conditions & how to live a healthier lifestyle. The medical staff was also spot on; courteous and friendly.

I’m new to UCLA Health. I’ve had appointments at this location 3 times since April 2015 (routine check-​ups).
The parking area is very close to the health center. I’ve had no problem finding available parking spaces.
I’ve always set appointments early in the day. I’ve never had to wait long in either the waiting room nor the examination room.
The folks who check you in at the front desk are pleasant, efficient and knowledgeable.
The waiting room is clean and organized — it’s a pleasant environment. For my visits, it hasn’t been crowded.
The nurses who escort me from the waiting room to the exam rooms have always been pleasant and knowledgeable.
I like the fact that my medical info is going into a database that is accessible to a large professional system. If I need to go to a specialist (here or elsewhere in the UCLA system) — my info is accessible without me having to drag paperwork around or endlessly fill out the same forms over-​and-​over.
On balance it’s been a very good experience. I hope UCLA does well here and keeps up the good work. It’s really nice to have convenient access to UCLA Medical services without having to drive to Westwood for routine exams or procedures.

I am so happy my allergist recommended UCLA Health! I love their online forum for appointments and receiving results online and Dr. Jennifer Logan is the best. Everyone I’ve met so far has been great and it encourages me to keep up with my doctor appointments. The wait time hasn’t been bad (but I’d gladly wait as long as it takes to be seen by this group) and the lobby is very spacious. Yay for UCLA health group and Dr. Logan!

My follow up visit was much better than my first. Got in 5 minutes after checking in at 10am. Saw Dr. Hove almost immediately after the nurse took my vitals and asked why I was there. Really liked Dr Hove, manhattan beach local, younger, smart, good listener and gave good counsel.
So my rating is 3stars, but that’s the average of a really bad first experience and a really good follow up.

Just met the Best, kindest, informative, knowledgable internal medicine doctor. Her name is Evelyn Curls, MD, MBA. What a dream come true. Now UCLA is in the South Bay with a medical doctor that I feel that truly understands her patients and takes care of their needs immediately & efficiently. I truly feel I finally picked the right primary care physician to problem guide me in the right road to better health care. Thank you Dr Evelyn Curls & thank you UCLA for finally coming to my area.
