Providence Medical Institute – Redondo Beach Urgent Care

This Urgent Care facility is really top-​notch! It’s around the corner from my home, has a wonderful administrative and medical staff, and the wait times are generally less than an hour. The care here is really thorough; you never feel like a number or rushed.

I had my baby with me for the visit and the way they helped with my baby alone was amazing, along with dealing with my urgent care needs in 45 minutes all for the price of an office visit (on a Saturday).awesome front staff, nurses and doctors .
Really can not fault this facility.

Went there to remove a cyst — they couldn’t for good reason i.e. it was on my face, so they referred me to an ENT (ear nose throat) specialist since it is more difficult to operate on a face, and prescribed some antibiotics to reduce the inflammation.
People were friendly though, not too expensive (didn’t have applicable insurance there so paid cash), though Dr. Khan seemed to take some sick joy in squeezing the crap out of my cyst. No warning whatsoever and when I was bleating out an «Oww!!» she sure as heck did not decide to stop, or think about it, or… ah well
So all in all ok except for the somewhat sadistic doc. In and out quick.

The doctor misdiagnosed me and sent me for an unnecessary EKG and cardio consult.
While I can appreciate being cautious, it became obvious that the Doc didn’t know what he was doing when I got the cardiologist and she said she gets misdiagnosed referrals all of the time. Apparently I had «upside-​down t-​waves» in my lead aVR, which caused him to be alarmed. Turns out t-​waves are always inverted in the lead aVR. Kind of disconcerting that he didn’t know that.
He WAS able to help with the pretty massively annoying cold I was experiencing, and therefore I was happy that I went. It was convenient that the pharmacist was right across the lobby, so I didn’t have to chase around to get my medications filled.
Good thing his mistake was seeing something that wasn’t there instead of missing something that was.

Note: This review is for an appointment in mid January. I was incredibly livid after visiting this place, so I chose to hold off a month before writing this review in hopes that I would write something more rational.

The service was fast, and the receptionists were very nice.
Dr. Phong Nguyen, on the other hand, was not helpful at all. He was incredibly condescending in most everything he said. We went there for Urgent care. My brother had all the symptoms of appendicitis, and after seeing the same, Dr. Nguyen said WE should call our insurance to see what the next steps should be… Isn’t that his job?
After we pressed him more, he said, that «fine», he’d try to see what we should do next. He left the room, came back, and said, «It’s 4:30 pm, how do you expect me to get you any appointments for a CT? Everybody out there laughed at me for even asking, thanks a lot. Come back tomorrow and we can get some blood tests scheduled.»
At the end of the 30 minute, terrible appointment, I decided it was necessary to take my brother to the Emergency Room and not wait till the next day to «schedule some tests.»
The ER took him in immediately. Not only did my brother have appendicitis, but his appendix had already ruptured. If the doctor can’t detect a burst appendix I’m not sure what he can detect.
A couple of weeks later we got Dr. Phong Nguyen’s bill in the mail.

Today was my second time there. I really love this Urgent Care office. The staff, especially the ladies at the front, are extremely friendly and sweet. I also appreciate how quickly I can get in and out. There is a pharmacy right next door that takes only ten minutes to fill prescriptions. Super convenient.

Really slow service. They say all the rooms are full but the reason is there are not many doctors working right now.

I arrived right on time at 2:15pm today and checked in at the front desk. I was seeing Dr Mayner who is not my usual Dr. The lady I had took almost 15 minutes to get me checked in. Then they brought me in and made me wait over an hour! I could barely keep my head up, almost fainted, and they put me in a room without a place to lay down. WOW! This place clearly doesn’t know how to take care of their patients! And to top it off, nobody checked in on me the whole time. Terrible customer service here. I am not a happy camper right now.

Doubt I will ever return to this urgent care.
Walked in to an empty waiting room, got called back, scale was not working. Doctor came In didn’t even know my name, called me Jason (it’s on the paperwork!)
Probably interacted with the doctor for 5 minutes and Was told I have allergies and there were instructions waiting upfront. Get upfront and was not given any instructions. She asked me? I had no idea.
I pretty much just ended up wiping my ass with the co-​pay.
So much for making the patient feel comfortable!

The good reviews you see her are absolutely for Dr Nguyen who has since left this practice. He was amazing. The staff is great too. But Dr. Ho is subpar. I go in, tell him i have had issues with these 3 things in the past and they are happening again and I’d like to have that tested. He proceeds to order the routine blood panel (which does not test for these) and then the nurse calls to tell me everything looks good. I ask about the tests I mentioned and he did not test for them. He led me to believe he would, there was no discussion around it, but he didnt. This is incompetence at best. Once I realized the error, I called to ask if they could do the right tests, they said theyd get back to me and to call at 4 if they didnt, but the office is closed at 4 apparently. I have a PPO, no clue why they wouldnt just order the tests I asked for, especially when I have a history of it, it can only mean more money for them and it’s just checking another box.
Edit: I do want to add, they did eventually get back to me and sure enough the new test results confirmed what I expected. The female doctor was super nice (I cant remember her name), but call before you go and if Ho is the one on call, go to another urgent care. They also billed me about 70 dollars more than normal, presumably for the entirely useless test Dr. Ho ordered.

The receptionist and intake nurse were both friendly and efficient. I can’t say the same for Dr Phong Nguyen. He was extremely uncaring, rude, and condescending. He only glanced at my chart when he walked in, which fully described my symptoms that had suddenly appeared that day. My very painful cheek wasn’t overly swollen or red. He looked at my face and said, «It’s too early to diagnose what is causing the pain.» I mentioned my fever and rash and the painful bumps near my jawbone and the cheek swelling. He acted surprised; then said, «what?» He was unaware of everything the intake nurse had written. Then he came closer and could see. He said «it’s probably «cellulitis». I asked what that was and he looked at me like I was stupid. All he said was «skin infection». No details. I tried to ask a couple more questions, but he cut me off saying he was prescribing antibiotics and that I should go to a dermatologist if it doesn’t improve. When he misunderstood a question I asked, he outwardly mocked me, again like I was stupid. I found his behavior offensive and highly unprofessional. I had to use google to learn about cellulitis.

In and out quick and easy no waiting the best so far for me. employee are helpful I will definetly recommend it to my family & friendssss

Love this place. The future of medicine truly is the urgent care as I constantly learn when I need medical attention and my primary and specialists are unreachable (ie too good for your calls/​urgent requests). I wish I could make a doctor here my primary care physician as they are eons more reliable than my actual doctors. The front office staff was very helpful and I was in to see a doctor in minutes. Very professional staff and service.

Exceedingly long wait times. Had to wait one hour, was told additional wait time would be another hour with just three people ahead of me

Called to ask for approximate wait time they said 30 minutes stayed there for over 2 hours.

Had my 4 yr old niece in town and we had to take her anywhere that could help after she woke up with ear pain and swollen lymph nodes. Poor thing. Unilocal to the rescue! The staff was amazingly friendly and patient and so kind to us but more importantly to my little niece, giving her stickers and other goodies. The doctor was also very kind and gentle– I always get nervous thinking of urgent care clinics and hadn’t been to one on many years, but I trust this place completely! Highly recommend.

I highly recommend this urgent care; I have been here twice — once for myself and once for my child who needed stitches. Both times I received excellent care, especially the doctor who handled my son’s stitches. The only complaint I would have is the wait time — there was only 1 other person in the waiting room, but it still took 3 hours total.

I came in last Saturday early morning because I was wheezing heavily and found it difficult to breathe. I have had bacterial pneumonia for the last two weeks and the bacteria was winning over the antibiotics I had been given on previous visits.
Dr. Phong Nguyen quickly assessed the situation and described the course of action we were going to take. He put me on on inhalation therapy, gave me A course of antibiotic injections. He prescribed Prednisone for a stronger antibiotic and a couple of things to open up my lungs plus cough medicine with Codine. That afternoon, I could feel the treatments take effect. Three days later, the wheezing is almost gone, I can breathe and I feel so much better.
Dr. Nguyen is the bomb! He gives you realistic expectations and really cares that you get better. It doesn’t get better than that.

Faviola was so wonderful. It made it a joy going to the clinic.

I was happy that I could come here instead of the ER when I got a minor dog bite at the nearby dog park and needed it checked out.
However, I was not pleased with the attitude of the doctor on staff. He was very condescending and did not make me feel comfortable. He prescribed antibiotics and gave me a tetanus shot and then «recommended» that I should get a rabies vaccine for my bite, but couldn’t tell me where to get one. Seriously? You’re a doctor. So his solution was to have me call ANIMAL CONTROL and ask them. When I called them, they basically laughed at me and said rabies vaccines weren’t really recommended since there hasn’t been an outbreak in over 50+ years and I wasn’t bit by a rabid animal. Thanks a lot, doctor, for embarassing me and having me waste time calling them.
I’d recommend this place if you want to be seen quicker than at the ER, but I do not recommend the doctor I saw. He was rude and not very helpful.
