Surf & Beach camps that you can schedule by the day. This option is a blessing and a curse for reviews because it is convenient for the client but it brings in a lot of single session campers with high expectations. It takes time to learn to surf, so campers get the most out of it if they sign up for multiple days.

History

Established in 2001.

Founder Robbie Yrigoyen started the business in 2001 after a luncheon with Quiksilver and Roxy’s CEO, Bob McKnight. She was an entrepreneur & currently burned out from working many years in the hospitality industry. Bob presented the opportunity to sponsor surf camps in the Los Angeles Area that Robbie would coordinate and run. Getting trained by the worlds leading surf company, Robbie successfully opened her first location in Santa Monica & shortly after in Redondo Beach. Each year a permit is issued by the cities. Robbie spends most of her time with the camps administrative work and raising her two children under 2 years old but has hired credible and professional staff as directors and excellent surfers to instruct. Having children of her own helped her understand what a parent expects and should receive when it comes to safety at the beach and that is why most of the staff are adults. I am married with a 1 year old girl and a boy in the oven. They will be 22 months apart. Very blessed. I love life. I love my family and I love my work. Every day is exciting because I get to see my baby do something new. I am from California and have wonderful friends. I’m turning the big 40 this year in 2011, but hey… the 40s are the new 20s… especially when you are pregnant! On the professional side, I have owned two businesses, a fashion accessory business that was very successful for 9 years and my surf camps now going on 10 years. I put 110% into everything I do. I am a perfectionist.

The camp is absolutely terrific, and we can’t say enough good things about it, but I’ll make every attempt to do so — Robbie and her staff have earned it. We and my daughter are sad to come to the last day, but we ABSOLUTELY will be back next year. The staff at Redondo/​Torrance were just great — well-​organized, attentive, lots of common sense, and energetic. I’ve sat and watched the camp on multiple occasions and I don’t know who goes home more tired, the kids or the counselors. I rarely feel as compelled to log a compliment as I do for Perfect Day and Robbie.
We have five kids this is our last and youngest, and we’ve seen many many camps over 16 years of watching our kids in the hands of others. And I’m an ER doc, and am more than comfortable that I recognize harm’s way when I see it, especially re drowning risk — and I never had anything but confidence in the staff’s attention to the safety of the kids. I stayed several days to watch from a non-​intrusive distance, and this camp did an excellent job of keeping track of everybody, not pressuring those who were tired, and always having enough supervising staff to keep up with the kids — in our experience, staff ratios are often a common source of downfall for camps — not once the case with Perfect Day.
On the administrative side, Robbie and staff were very easy and efficient to deal with, and earned very high marks for professionalism.
If I could add a sixth star, I would. We’ll be back as soon as the next camp opens.
As far as previous reviews are concerned, I’ve never reviewed a restaurant who’s patio I walked past but not tasted the food; personally I stuck to reviews of Perfect Day from parents whose kids actually attended the camp, and the five-​star ratings were right on the mark. Well done Robbie and staff!

My granddaughters have attended this camp for the past two years. They have had a great time. There are plenty of counselors who are happy and willing to help the kids learn to surf. The camp includes fun games and exercises. Each day the girls came home from the beach, they excitedly told us about their progress with learning to surf and swim. My family felt they were in a safe and happy place so we are glad for the girl’s experience and will certainly have them attend the camp next summer.

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to you and your staff for running an awesome beach/​surf camp! This is our fourth and last week attending and my kids have LOVED going every day! When camp first started my daughter would scream if she got ocean water splashed on her face… made our beach experience not so fun! And now she is diving into waves!!! She’s also boogie boarding and loves surfing! And my son who has always loved the ocean has become more ocean wise and has also enjoyed learning to surf! Big big thanks once again! We look forward to participating in your camp again next summer!!!

Robbie and her staff are amazing. Very friendly and helpful. My two nephews went and loved it! Jake learned to surf and Kyle tried it and decided that he liked to build sand castles better. I’m glad that both got a chance to try it. Jake went for three summers.
I’m a teacher & a director of preschool. I can spot quality care. They are one of the only camps that I will recommend to others.

Perfect Day is the BEST Beach/​Surf Camp in the South Bay. We have tried others, but Perfect Day has been the only one that my children have wanted to return to year after year. My daughter started attending when she was 7 and learned how to surf the first day! She loved it and can’t wait to go back every year. My son has gone the last two years and he loves it also; even though he doesn’t usually want to surf, he loves riding the boogie boards, and playing all the games on the beach. The price is reasonable for a beach camp, and even lower if you sign up with the early bird special in March and April, and I think they have a sibling discount, too, but we always sign-​up with early bird. Try it! Your kids will love it!

This is the camp for future little surfers! My son was safe, learned about respect for the ocean, and had a blast riding some waves! The staff was friendly and super fun with kids. I would recommend this camp for sure!

I’m not quite sure to whom this thank you should go but I will write it to you.
My son, Thomas, was in your preschool surf camp & I can’t tell you how much he loved going (surfing, boogie boarding, doing tricks. so he called it, sand play & just being there with all the wonderful instructors & learning) & how much change we saw in him… :)
Thomas was always a water baby but had a hard time with our ocean. The noise specifically.
That all changed one week into joining your surf camp… SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
Since camp, Thomas, still continues to enjoy the beach… specifically the ocean!
Thomas turned 4 years old on September 3rd… One evening we arrived to find a package for Thomas but with no return address or card. Inside were surf camp stickers, hat & a super generous Nintendo DS game.
Thomas was over the moon…
He often speaks of his instructors & wakes up asking if today is surf camp day!!!
We wanted to tell you how much we appreciate you thinking of him & making him feel super special.

Disappointed. They did a really poor job with the sunscreen cream and my daughter came back with the worst sunburns she’d had. We are really wary of sunburns at childhood because it’s directly linked to skin cancer later.
Otherwise the children simply played on the beach… we did not opt for the surf camp since they were at the camp just one day; our 2 children entertained themselves… for $ 250 for one day.

My 10 year old son really loved the camp. He attended for 1 week, half a day at the Torrance/​Redondo location August 2012. So glad the Living Social deal allowed me to try it out. We will certainly return to this camp next year. My son learned to surf! There were daily activities and he had a ball boogie boarding as well. They loaned him a wet suit and he was also given a camp hat. The guys who worked at his location were very mellow” surf dudes” to the core. My son liked the relaxed atmosphere and he never felt pressure to swim or surf. He was able to decide what he wanted to do, so that was nice. It is great for kids to get an idea of what surfing is all about. Perfect Day is not a corporate company, it is run by local folks who truly love what they do. I also liked the flexibility of changing weeks when I needed to. Their prices are very fair also and they have early bird specials every year. Robbie is awesome about returning emails right away. You can’t beat this location either (end of bike path in Torrance). Right in front of the lifegaurd headquarters, tons of parking, a cool beach restaurant and big bathroom. Thanks dudes you were totally gnarly!
