History

Established in 1996.

In 1996, Jennifer formed Very Important Pooch (V.I.P.) in Los Angeles, California. She started the business after college with just a few business cards and word of mouth from clients. She later extended her services to teach group classes as the primary dog trainer for Château Marmutt, a high-​end pet boutique/​daycare in Los Angeles. V.I.P. lead to work with international investigation and security firms, for whom she trained numerous personal protection dogs for their celebrity and top executive clients. Business Owner

Known as the «Wolf Woman», Jennifer has appeared on national television on the National Geographic Channel, Nat. Geo. Wild, Bravo and E! Entertainment networks as well as local news stations across the country including ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox. McCarthy has also appeared in numerous publications such as The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal and many more.

In 2010, Jennifer was approached by the Dog Whisperer production team as a candidate to take over the series. In making a decission to stay close to her roots, she left Hollywood behind to do what she loves best and stay close to working with animals and their owners.

Jennifer is constantly doing an on-​going study of wolf behavior, which she applies back to domestic dogs. Her work with wildlife and nature is the foundation in which inspires her to use knowledge from different animals to think «out of the box» and invent new ways and new techniques.

I wonder if Jennifer is still using the moniker "Wolf Woman" ... That she conveniently (borrowed) from another woman, whose reputation with wolves was also questionable. A while back, Jennifer showed up at a wolf refuge sanctuary in Colorado to learn wolf behavior. Until that time she had never even been close to a wolf. (At a sanctuary and definitely not in the wild). Her dog training methods are neither new or original. She borrowed her method from others. As far as a fourth generation dog trainer ... I was present when she claimed to be a third generation dog trainer, and suddenly she became a fourth generation dog trainer. It was intriguing and Interesting. Jennifer's family is wealthy, and she is a trust fund child. Most of her tv and radio appearances that she portrays herself as "Wolf Woman" are simply fabricated. I wonder if she's still using the mimicking and mirroring training that was supposedly tried and tested at the wolf refuge and sanctuary.

Having 3 dogs that were only lightly trained I often found myself getting frustrated. Don’t get me wrong, I love all 3 of my dogs as if they were my children. I spoil them rotten, but at times when they are all acting up it can get to me.
I turned to Jennifer for training on my youngest dog, an 8 month old west highland terrier. We are currently half way through the 6 week training course and I am so pleased with the results so far.
Jennifer is very patient and able to handle many clients and dogs at the same time. Her style of teaching is so much better than other trainers because she does not use treats to train the dog. She has taught me how to have my dog focus on me and obey my commands without treats!!!
On top of working with my dog that is in the class, Jennifer has met all 3 of my dogs. She has given me tips on how to make life at home easier with my 3 dogs. The little tips and tricks that she has given me has made my life so much easier. All 3 dogs are behaving better, listening to me and walking easier.
Jennifer has recommended several products to me and even taught me how to use them properly. She has turned me onto pinch collars to stop my dogs from pulling while on a leash. At first, I was skeptical but it does not harm my dogs and has literally stopped them from pulling on the leash.
The price of the course is $ 300 for 6 weeks and it is so worth it. Sure, you can go to Petsmart or Petco, but they are inexperienced. Jennifer has dog training in her blood and her passion for training and dogs shows! Jennifer is worth every penny!

My dogs are my life! But they are wheaten terriers so they are strong, stubborn and a handful to say the least. I’ve had to learn how to relate to my fabulous, funny, furry, frustrating boys! I hired several trainers but none of them worked as a matter of fact, the dogs were progressively getting worse. Then came Jennifer =) THANK GOD! From the moment she walked in I knew she was the real deal. After I explained what was going on with the boys. She took the time to really shed light on the psychology behind dog behavior. She knew exactly what we needed to do with Lulu and G to get them on track. They are progressing so well, it brings tears to my eyes. They do synchronized commands and seem so much happier. She is so wonderful, her energy is calm and strong. I love the way she provides feedback and recognizes when I do something right. Lets face it, it’s not my dogs that are being trained, it’s me…
My recommendation, don’t waste your time and money on other trainers, you get what you pay for,
she is, in one word, AWESOME!
