My original tummy tuck surgery went well, but follow up procedures went terribly wrong. What should have been a 3 month recovery and follow up time turned into one month shy of three years! Absolutely unacceptable. To make matters worse, my final result ended up with scar tissue that is visible through my clothing. The scar tissue remains unacceptably raised. I was hopeful that the doctor would take responsibility, but I was told by the doctor that I would no longer receive assistance with the problem unless I pay more money. Be careful. After spending 10,000 dollars for the original surgery, years of follow up, time off work, and two surgeries later … this is a cautionary tale.

I live in Canada, but am originally from Corona and knew of Dr. Rau through a medical billing company that I used to work for. Originally, I chose to get a breast augmentation with him because I knew two women who had theirs also done by him and had fantastic results. I started off by contacting their office through email for information about a breast augmentation – cost, what the surgery entailed, how soon I would be able to travel back home following the surgery, what available dates they had that would align with my schedule as well, and the like. The office patient coordinator, Rose responded to all my questions promptly and was very pleasant in doing so, even though I fired back email after email with more questions I came up with as time went on. She was always so professional and had such a caring tone about her (even through email), which was one of the first things that told me I chose the right doctor.
After much back-​and-​forth correspondence, Rose and I scheduled a consultation for February 17 and I put down a deposit to hold February 25 as a surgery date. This may seem outrageous, seeing as though by this time I had not even had my consultation yet, but I just had a good feeling that it would go well. I did, however, tell myself that IF there was ANYTHING at all that made me feel uncomfortable or question any part of the process once I actually was in the consultation with Dr. Rau, that I would cancel it and not go through with it. Being a realist, I made sure that I would be confident in myself to not go through with it if I had a bad feeling about it upon meeting the doctor.
On consultation day, I was a little nervous but once I met Dr. Rau, I was instantly so comfortable! He was very professional yet personable, and did not miss a beat in providing me with all the information I needed to know about having a breast augmentation. I told him exactly what I envisioned for myself in terms of size, and that I want them big enough to feel like I have a great pair of breasts, but also did not want to look top-​heavy or like they were «pornstar boobs,» for lack of better terms. I’m only 5’0″ tall, so I really wanted him to make them proportionate to a petite body but also big enough where I won’t feel like «I should have gotten them bigger,» as many women feel after having breast augmentations. He had me try on different size implants, and after a few tries we decided that the best size for me would be 400CC’s. I trusted his judgment, as I felt he had a very good understanding of how I wanted my body to look after all is said and done.
I had my surgery on February 25 at Inland Surgery Center, where the staff were amazing and took fantastic care of me. The nurses were very attentive, had wonderful bedside manner, and took the time to really make my experience there a good one. I saw Dr. Rau prior to my surgery when he came to do the drawings on me, and the few minutes of interaction we had at that time further reassured me that I was in good hands.
I was expecting to be in tons of pain following the surgery, but I was in minimal pain and actually stopped taking my prescribed pain pills on post-​op day 3. I switched to taking Tylenols just in the mornings when I’d wake up, as that was when I felt the most uncomfortable throughout the day. I saw Dr. Rau for a post-​op appointment on post-​op day 2, when the bandages were removed and I could not believe how great my breasts looked just 2 days after surgery!!! I was anticipating not loving them at that stage, as I knew they would be swollen and maybe even somewhat deformed looking but, boy, was I wrong! I was so pleasantly happy with the results!
I continued to follow his post op instructions and saw him for the last time before I came back to Canada 8 days after my surgery. By then, my new breasts looked even better than when he last saw me and taught me how to do my breast massages as well as how to take care of my scars to help diminish them.
To end this novel of a review, I want to say that not only does Dr. Rau yield top-​notch results with his work, but he is also extremely caring, compassionate, professional, and knowledgeable in his field. I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Rau and his practice. Even living in another country wouldn’t stop me from going back to him in the future, and I would give him the highest recommendation to my friends and family.
I also want to say that my surgery wouldn’t be a complete success without the assistance of the ladies in his office, who are also a very big part of my love for his practice. From his nurses, to Rose and Kim who helped me coordinate my surgery from beginning to end, each one made me feel so welcomed and cared for every time I was in there. Thank you again, Dr. Rau and team!
