Discover Cruises & Travel

My girlfriend and I have used Discover Cruises on my past 2 carnival cruises. Chris took care of absolutely everything and I didn’t have to worry about a thing. I had room issues on my most recent cruise. Chris contacted carnival on my behalf and before we left port was able to not only get us the offer of a new room, but was able to get carnival to partially reimburse us for the inconvenience and provide us with a bottle of champagne for dinner and a few other treats (where my girlfriend and I were only able to get a couple free drinks offered to us as compensation on our own from guest services). We ended up having a terrific time. I surprisingly was able to save money using Discover Cruises compared to my research of the Internet, and there wasn’t a hassle of figuring things out myself. Chris was very easygoing and knowledgable, and was able to answer all the questions I had. He was very straightforward with prices and didn’t try to «up-​sell» me. Being a firefighter customer service is very important to me. I was impressed and satisfied with the service I received. Both my girlfriend and I would recommend this business and Chris as our travel professional.

My wife and I have used Holly at Discover Cruises several times and have had nothing but great customer service and a great trip. We booked a last minuted cruise 5 weeks ago and just returned home. Holly found us a complete trip on Norwegian Cruise Line for 2 people and a total cost of $ 1500!!! 7 days that includes food and lodging. Everything was as promised and on time. Due to the last minuet trip she had to expedite a lot of the paperwork and everything worked out wonderfully. Being the thrifty (Cheep Skate) I doubled checked the on line prices with all these cruise discount websites and come to find out Discover Cruise was the same price as those but Discover supplied the great customer service that the sight in no way could have.
My opinion is why in the world would you book a Cruise on a website and fumble through all that on line stuff on your own when all you have to do is pick up the phone and call Holly. This is either the 4^th or 5^th time we used Discover Cruises and will continue in the future if the budget allows.

The first time I used Discover Cruises & Travel’s services he sent my wife (girlfriend at the time) and me on a Mediterranean cruise in 2012. Chris (the owner) made the process extremely simple. He worked with us step by step. We knew we wanted to start and end our trip in Florence but not much more than that. He arranged the flights, the car service from airport to hotel, which trains to take, how to get to and from the cruise terminal and made sure we had all the right documents so that we didn’t have to stress about anything. We had a blast!
I’m a frequent traveler, but had never used a travel agent before, so I was happily surprised to find that not only does using a travel agency not cost extra, but that he was also able to get us a lower rate than we had found on the Internet.
In 2015 Chris sent my wife and I on our honeymoon to the Mayan Riviera. We stayed at Secrets Maroma Beach and again, Chris took care of EVERYTHING. He had the limo pick us up from the reception and take us to the airport hotel. He arranged the car services, the shuttles, the flights, as well as the resort. He even included how much we should tip our various drivers. He made sure that the resort knew we were on our honeymoon, and we had a bottle of champagne and a note from Chris waiting for us.
Chris goes above and beyond to make everything as easy as possible for his clients. While in Italy, we stupidly missed one of our trains before the cruise and had to call Chris (international roaming charges) over the weekend. He got our message and got back to us within 15 min, even though it was his day off. That’s dedication to your clients!

I have used Discover Cruises on 3 separate occasions for cruises and had no problem whatsoever, Holly was my agent every time and she handled everything fine.

Discover Cruises and Travel is the only way I would book a trip. I have booked 4 cruises with Holly and Discover (2 within the last 2 months) and every trip has been top notch. Holly and Chris make you feel like family and just not like customers. Holly always goes above and beyond to make each trip better than the last one. I was referred to Chris reference booking a cruise. I usually make my own travel arrangements but was a little nervous handling this on my own as it entailed travel out of the country. I am also totally unfamiliar with cruising, so I wanted an agent who was very familar with cruises.
I felt I had to do most of my own research and leg work on this. I often had to contact him for information rather than he keeping me informed. It added a lot of stress to the trip… I thought travel agents were suppose to make things easier. In the end I even had to book my own plane seat, which he was suppose to take care of… got almost the last seats on the plane.
I had been on a cruise about 10 years ago and went through AAA. I don’t remember having to go through all this hassle. Compared notes with other cruisers and they thought the agent should have handled more. I even googled to research what travel agents are suppose to do for you, to see if I was expecting too much, doesn’t seem like it. If I had known this ahead of time I would have booked through Costco, probably saved more money and gotten more perks.

I’ve use Chris Pohren on two occasions. Unfortunately I’m both occasions I was fraudulently charged, for things that were promised and didn’t receive.
On my first trip I booked a $ 10,000.00 plus trip to Hawaii for my family and I, complete with an ocean front view, for my 50^th birthday, When we arrived at our hotel we were completely deceived, there was no view, I mean only contacted Chris, to try and rectify the situation. Chris and myself corresponded back-​and-​forth, Chris contact the front desk which tried to move us to another room with still no view, unfortunately we had to keep the room that we where currently in.
The second time I went to book a cruise to Mexico, Chris apologize for the room in Maui, he said he went at toured the rooms and they weren’t ocean view and he advised the Agency he used, that he cannot sell an oceanview, that’s not truly an ocean view!!! He never refunded or offered any compensation.
So we proceeded to talk about travel arrangements for Mexico cruise, Chris sent over pictures of ship and a cabin with a balcony, the room was spacious with 2 sliders in the cabin. Chris proceeded said he would need to use my card on file to hold the room till we decided to book. Well Chris was in a hurry Friday night cause he was meeting his daughter in New York for a cruise for next day, so I asked him again prior to filling out my cruise info, can you please send a picture of the cabin, he said sure and I’ll send you info to fill out for the cruise ship, if you have any questions or concerns my secretary will be here till I get back, she will be able to handle any issues or problems, or concerns. Well I immediately contacted his secretary the next day to put a stop to everything, when I found out the picture of the cabin was a smaller cabin, and not as big as the one he first sent, with only one slider leading to balcony, she advised me Id have to wait for Chris to return, and it shouldn’t be a problem. Chris returned and I explained my concerns and this is what happened in Hawaii, and that I wasn’t comfortable nor had I filled out the consent or travel info for the cruise, he told me «well I’m sorry I already had them charge your American Express card» you’ll have to deal with Princess Cruise now…
Sense then Chris has done nothing to resolve situation and I’ve been in a dispute for the last four months for $ 1500. Charges with American Express.
Chris has completely been dishonest and unfair on two occasion, I would not recommend him or his travel agency for any trips or tours.
