Circle K

Overpriced. Same two ice creams can be bought three blocks away for two dollars less!

This is a smaller and older Circle K. No gas. Gee, this is starting off like my review of the 7 Eleven a short distance to the north.
Well, OK, there is a better choice of fountain drinks. So that is not the same. Still there was cause for dissatisfaction with fountain drinks because there was no ice.
The clerk said that the ice maker was broken. Certainly not something that was the fault of the clerk. The clerk wanted to fill the ice machine with bag ice but could not so because of a corporate rule that says a clerk who is working alone cannot leave the store — even to go to an ice freezer 20 feet outside the door — if there are customers in the store. Even if they are still browsing and not ready to check out yet.
The ice cream freezer is not kept cold enough. The drumstick I bought started to melt by the time I got to the car. Deja Vu even though I wasn’t at 7 Eleven.
The store is well organized and clean but worn. The clerk wasn’t spontaneously friendly but did respond acceptably to my attempts to prompt conversation, which concerned the ice issue.
I suppose the corporate view is that most of the customers are tourists who will only be around for a few days and who will likely spend their next vacation somewhere else, so why bother with doing a great job.
There is little to choose from between the Circle K and the 7 Eleven a short distance to the north. Just go to whichever one is closer.
With an excellent beach and decent motels nearby, this store and the nearby 7 Eleven are likely to be the least satisfying part of a tourists vacation to the area.
