Holiday Inn Redding

bedbug risk! the service is crummy, they will overcharge your debit card and leave you to sort through hundreds in damages, customers beware.

I scored this «3 star hotel» on Priceline for half the price. For $ 65, I guess I cannot complain too much. But for full price, this hotel is definitely a rip off. I would have been extremely unhappy had I paid full price. The beds were comfortable enough and linens crisp. This is always my first concern. The carpets were very worn and stained and though there was no smell I couldn’t help but wonder if we were given a dog friendly room. Yuck. The bathroom seemed clean enough but the drain in the bathtub was not working properly so by the time I finished my shower I was standing in a few inches of water.

We live in Redding, so we usually only rate Hotels when we are traveling. However I gave this place 5 stars because of how the staff helped us out when my 84 year old mom needed her home deep cleaned and painted for a week. We got a good deal on
here because they had a full kitchen so mom could eat anytime she wanted or get room service.
The entire staff went out of there way to make mom’s stay a great experience. The painters, and our family were able to get her home all ship shape while she enjoyed first class service. The room was great, prices reasonable, and everyone happy. Thank You Staff!

Today is 12/​09/​2015. I called the hotel to inquire about a holiday meal (Christmas buffet, possibly). She couldn’t give me any information and wanted to give me the restaurant phone number. I asked if she could simply transfer me instead and she said «oh yeah, I guess I could». Really? Not professional, but moving on. It took 3 minutes for someone to answer the phone in the restaurant then he proceeded to take a room service order & said the room number out loud, while I was on the line with him! Completely unprofessional. I asked him what the price would be for a meal and asked if it was plated or a buffet. He said plated and… his voice trailed off as he began yet another conversation with someone in the restaurant. I will not be dining there nor would I recommend anyone expect any level of service above that at a Super 8. Julienne. That was the man’s name in the restaurant who rudely put me off. He needs service training.

Needed a hotel for 1 night with my dog! Really clean room for being pet friendly! I expected it to smell like animals but was cleaner than most rooms of this caliber of hotel!

Could have used more grass space for the dog but knowing the drought I understand!

They are always so good to us here. staff is wonderful … All of the employees here are very kind and anything you need they bring right away

Beds were comfortable, room was clean. Had to unplug the sound generator they call a fridge. Shower/​tub was clean and refreshing, but a word of caution… it’s a knee knocker getting in, the sides are so high. Also this was a pet friendly room so there is an odor.
Breakfast is NOT included, but they do have a large enough dining hall. The food is pretty plain fare.
So all in all everything was decent but not over the top. At $ 189 per night plus $ 20 for breakfast (for two), I will be looking around at other options on the way back.

There are some four-​star attributes for this hotel and some that are only two-​star. Over all I would give it 2 ½ stars. And note that I stayed there for a month, so I had plenty of opportunity to see all aspects of the hotel.
RESTAURANT:
The Good —
The restaurant has excellent food. Their chef is excellent. I had both breakfast and dinner there several times and every meal was delicious. I would not consider it overpriced for what you get.
The Bad —
They close too early. There is also a lounge/​bar attached to the restaurant and both close at 9 p.m. The restaurant should at least stay open until 10 p.m. and the lounge until midnight. Maybe quit serving meals at nine and offer appetizers at the bar until midnight?
There is no free continental breakfast which is unfortunate, but it is not advertised, so if this is something important to you — go elsewhere. Almost every other hotel in town does offer a free breakfast.
WORKOUT ROOM:
The Good — It is open 24 hours a day — there is a wall mounted television — there is a water fountain
The Not So Good — Not all of the equipment works. And like I said, I stayed there a month and equipment that was broken on the first day was still broken on the 30^th day. I’m pretty sure they don’t intend to fix it.
POOL/​HOT TUB:
My only complaint would be the hours. They provide towels, there are lounge chairs and tables with chairs. The pool had a shallow and a deeper end and was pleasant. The hot tub was ok — jets could have been stronger. It is outdoors, with no lifeguard and not right next to any rooms (and it is right next to the lobby desk) so it would seem they could extend the hours past 10pm
PARKING:
They have absolutely tons of parking. Acres of it. Mostly well lit. Had an overnight security guard. I always felt safe parking there and coming in by myself late at night.
ROOMS:
The room was fine. Bed (king size) was very comfortable and I loved that there were 4 king sized pillows. There are no microwaves in the room which seems chintzy. There is a refrigerator which I didn’t even discover for the first 4 days I was there. It is inside a cabinet and you would never know it was in there. It is also the smallest refrigerator I have ever seen. You can barely get one plate of left-​overs and a bottle of water in there.
The shower/​bath tub had great water pressure and an adjustable shower head and two hooks on the back of the door. There were two sinks — one in the bathroom and a larger one outside with an individual cup sized coffee brewer. The maids were kind of all over the place (and I left a tip every day). I finally had to put the trash can up next to the tip to get them to empty it. By then it had a full week’s worth of trash in it. One day they didn’t clean at all. Another they made the bed but left all the pillows stacked on a chair. But all in all the rooms were ok. EXCEPT — for the room phone. It NEVER worked. For a while I reported it (by walking down to the lobby — which by the way if you are in the back of the hotel like I was — is a long, long walk) every few days. For a while they assured me it would be fixed right away. Finally they admitted they had phone issues all over the hotel and it didn’t sound like they were too concerned about ever getting it taken care of. I got the feeling the hotel owner is just cheap and doesn’t want to spend any money to upgrade or fix things.
WIFI: The wifi is not powerful enough to let all guests on if the hotel is full. Also, the wifi password changes every Friday — something they don’t tell you when you check in.
And finally, the LAUNDRY. OMG! I was in Redding for work and was working 14 hour days. They have a small (one washing machine) coin operated laundry room that is only open until 10pm. Since I worked too late at night to use it — I took my clothes down to the front desk and asked if they could send them out to be washed. Washed — not dry cleaned. These were t-​shirts and cargo pants. When the hotel brought them back to me they had been professionally dry cleaned and pressed and the hotel gave me a bill from the cleaners for $ 149!!! I had to find the dry cleaners (on my own, the hotel was no help), drive over there and talk to the owner. He told me the hotel told him they had no idea what I wanted done with my clothes so he felt he had no choice except to dry clean them. Seriously? Anyway, the cleaners agreed to drop the bill to $ 20. But the hotel was no help at all and seemed surprised when I brought them the changed bill from the cleaners.
I would stay here again — only because I want the IHG hotel points and it is the only IHG hotel in town. If you are traveling along I-​5 and don’t have to stop in Redding, I would stop further south if possible and stay at the Holiday Inn Express in either Corning or Red Bluff.

So they get 2 stars because I didn’t have to pay for my stay (business trip), and all of the staff are extremely nice and helpful. My room was clean and the beds were comfortable. However, there are a lot of negatives with this hotel.
1. No continental breakfast and the restaurant of course is expensive.
2. The exercise equipment in the workout room are either half-​working or don’t work. They’re also very dated and the room is very small.
3. No exhaust fans in the bathroom. I had to take lukewarm showers so the bathroom wouldn’t fill up with steam (I was sharing a room, so leaving the bathroom door open was not an option).
4. Glasses that were brought to the conference room were often dirty, like orange juice glued to the glass dirty.
5. My door key worked half the time. It would take 3 – 4 times of sliding it before the door would read it.

I stay here quite often when I travel north. Very friendly staff and nice hotel. This last time, I had forgotten my phone charger. When I called down to the front desk, they had a big basket full of chargers and let me borrow one for the night so I didn’t have to go buy one. My only complaint is I wish on the weekend nights, the lounge stayed open longer than 9pm.

We were given pet — friendly room #169. They charge a reasonable additional $ 20 per night for our 7 pound, crate trained, non shedding miniature poodle. The room is unacceptable. It’s filthy, stained, ripped and lumps under the carpet. I let the front desk know we are very unhappy with this room, I showed the pictures and the comment was «it’s a pet room». I’ve stayed in lots of hotels with my pup and this is the first one to give me a pet friendly room that is sub part and filthy. We arrived at midnight so it’s too late to go somewhere else tonight. We will check out in the morning and find a better place to stay the rest of the week.

Stayed there for a night while heading back from shasta to bay area. It was very comfortable and really well maintained.

We had a 10.5 hour drive from San Jose to Portlandia so we did part of the drive on Saturday and stayed the night here. The hotel is conveniently located right off the freeway so that’s nice. It is also centrally located next to many food options.
The hotel looks beautiful on the outside. As we were driving, it like sparkled! The lobby smelled so fresh and so clean clean. And the staff was friendly. We drove around to to the back where our room was and there was tons of parking! We should have known something was wrong.
We walked into our room-​room 151 and it was gross. For $ 101/​night in a standard room, we were expecting a little more. It just looked dirty and outdated. The desk was directly in front of the bed making it impossible to move the chair to use the desk for work, the carpet needed some tender loving, and the furniture (reclining chair with ottoman) looked used. What’s worse, we were laying in bed and I look above the bed and see something. I get up and realize its a caterpillar/​centipede looking creature. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Nothing mattered anymore at this point. I couldn’t sleep and couldn’t wait to check out in the morning.

This was a three star hotel and will be judged like a 3 star hotel and did this through Hotwire. The front desk was very nice in letting us check in early, but then there were a lot of rooms available. The wireless was working sometimes for 70 percent of the time and 30 it was very flaky. We were on the corner of the place which was nice. Rooms were nice as well, the toilet though had scratches on it. One thing very nice was there was a sink in the bathroom and one outside. It is in a nice prime location as well in front of the malls and restaurants we heard of. The hotel room was very nice and loved the remodel as well.

Room was great, front desk staff was great. The only drawback on this and the past few stays is that the wi fi strength is awful on the north side of the hotel. When searching for signals, the Red Lion hotel is stronger than Holiday Inn. Except for this, a good night’s stay.

Stayed here versus our usual hotel and overall it was decent. Despite questionable reviews on Hotels and Unilocal.placed fair okay for the night. The night concierge was pleasant and gave us options for rooms.
Other than the wireless not working. place was clean and had no other issues.

Unfortunately they don’t warn you that nightly thefts are a normal occurrence.
We parked in front of the office to find in the morning that thieves had destroyed our locked bikes because they couldn’t get the locks off. No where do they warn you of the danger but in the morning the front desk personnel comment is «that’s what happens when you stay in Redding».
When we asked why they don’t warn guests she coldly remarked that we signed away our rights when we checked in. So much for the reputation of Holiday Inn.

Do Not stay at this hotel!!! Or any other hotel in Redding ca! My husband two children and I stayed here overnight on the way home from our vacation. We had a cargo carrier on our tow hitch with a cargo bag full of ALL of our clothes and baby high chair stroller pack n play and baby walker. We woke up to find that someone cut the straps and stole the whole thing!!!
When checking into the hotel we asked where the safest place to park was and we were directed to park behind the hotel. The police said this sort of thing happens every weekend in redding and the girl at the front desk neglected to inform us of this problem or suggest taking everything inside. They were totally unsympathetic and seemed to see nothing wrong with neglecting to warn us. Besides that the hotel is run down, the carpet is disgusting and the rooms are cramped and outdated.

Spent one night here before heading on home. Used some of our airline points to stay here. Guess that is why the girl at the front desk did not offer us anything for being Priority Club members. First time that no one has offered us anything so that was disappointing. Other than that, her service was excellent.
We had a room at the back of one of the buildings. It was a nice spot, and I was able to park our car right outside the window! Very convenient. The room had everything we needed (including mini fridge/​freezer). Bed was fine, but not as comfy as other Holiday Inn locations that we have frequented.
With there being no complimentary breakfast, I expected this Holiday Inn to be much better than the Holiday Inn Express locations. Well, it was not better.
Still, we had an okay stay. Slept well. Would I stay here again? Probably not. I would look for a Holiday Inn Express location instead.

My fiancé and I stayed here two nights during memorial weekend. The hotel was recently remodeled or kept in very good condition. The front desk was really nice.
We bid for the hotel on price line and got a really good deal, only issue was the room was smoking. we did not mind that much, however our ac was VERY loud and did not work perfectly. We didn’t complain we made it through fine. If those two things didn’t go bad our experience would of been PERFECT.
The location was well located. The pool had a lot of kids in it, but it was clean and the hot tub was very nice as well.
Definitely a solid 3 star hotel, one of the newer ones it looks like too.
