Redcrest Resort

My husband and I came here last minute on a road trip across California. It is reasonably priced for what you get. The room we had was small but very very cozy. Huge bed that was very comfortable, small bathroom with standing shower only but really clean. Quiet property and kinda dog friendly.
In regards to dogs, I will say be careful. When I called ahead and made a reservation I notified the person I talked to that we had a service animal with us (paperwork included). I was told that was fine. When we arrived, the person at the front desk told me I had to sign a «dog waiver» and that my dog wasn’t allowed on the bed and that if she got on we could be charged up to $ 300 because cleaning off the dog hair was hard. I told her she was a service animal and that part of her job was to be close if an episode occurred and that if that meant being on the bed in the middle of the night then she would need to be on the bed. The lady gave me a bit of an attitude and had me sign the dog waiver with a disclaimer saying she was a service animal. It was more awkward than anything.
We never ended up having a problem. Our stay ended up being very pleasant. We slept great, it was quiet and comfortable. There was even a TV in the room with a decent movie collection to choose from. It was exactly what we were looking for and would for sure go back again.
Plus, you are surrounded by some of the most beautiful trees I have ever seen.

Great Family place! I brought my 5 & 9 year old grandchildren and, my 28 yr. old Niece and 26 year old son. We all had a wonderful time! The «resort» is an American down-​home place. Clean, staff/​super friendly, warm, and accommodating. Not a 5 star Hyatt Resort. But in a basic family focus way… better! Right in front of the cabins, kids can swing, tether-​ball, bean bag toss, play ping-​pong, frisbee target throw, and play soccer, baseball & football out on the grass. Adults: hot tub, horseshoes, volley ball, and sit out in wood adirondack chairs and observe or just chill. Each cabin has a kitchen and porch with chairs out in front. Avenue of The Giants… well, God did a magnificent job with them! Great place to explore.
For bike riding safely, river rock-​skipping, and hiking with the kids, we found the Williams Grove to be our local go-​to-​place. Lots of other hiking and tree exploring places… everywhere.
Across the street from the Resort is the Eternal Tree House Café. Great simple American food for the family. Finding other dinner family restaurants… will take a 20+/- minute drive north & south. For a family, we found the Funky Monkey the place to go. Full American menu… with a Arcade for the kids. Not for everyone… but a safe bet for parents that need a break to eat with entertainment.

Just returned from a delightful stay at Redcrest Resort. Our cabin had everything we needed: fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, great beds, TV/​DVD, Wifi, etc. The front porch was delightful. Enjoyed watching the quail family in the morning and deer grazing at night. Can’t wait to return.

I spent 3 days at a wonderful scenic spot and it was great. The cottages are well maintained and full of amenities. There is a nice play park for the kids and a lovely little redwood trial with a walk through tree. With it being so closely located to a variety of scenic site and a short drive to the beach, this place is a definite stay. I hear of this place form my parents and after the stay I had with my wife and kids, this has definitely become a recurring vacation spot for multi generations of the Pauley family. Thank you to all the wonderful people at the Redcrest Resort.

Located on scenic Avenue of the Giants, this quaint resort offers rest for all. The rental cabins have so many great extras you feel as though you never left home! Every cabin has a full kitchen. The cabin was roomy and our family of four didn’t feel cramped in our 1 bedroom cabin. The RV spaces have full hook-​ups. Camp sights can accommodate tents as well. The resort offered a large grassy area to play ball, badminton, frisbee golf or swing. There is also a hot tub on sight. The resort is pet-​friendly and offers a separate pet area for your four legged family members.
The staff was friendly and helpful with tips on local sights and eateries.
We will definitely use this resort every time we visit the redwoods!

Ugh. Dirty bathrooms, no soap in the women’s restroom and the showers are filthy.
We stayed at a 30 amp site in our travel trailer. I turned on the water faucet and the water came out white and milky. So gross.
I expect more. for $ 50 a night. I would never stay again. Keep looking. This place is awful.

We made a last minute reservation here while we were on out way up to Oregon, stayed in cabin 12 at the end with our dog. Very cute cozy and quiet. We slept great! There is a coffee maker, microwave and fridge but couldn’t seem to find any plates or silverware? The staff is very friendly and informative, we will definitely come back again!

These cabins are so nice! They are extremely clean and hospitable. The fully stocked kitchen and bathroom were a wonderful surprise, and overall I would say the amenities are nicer than some five-​star hotels. We visited during the off season which meant that this place was the only light on in the town of Red Crest (pop. 112) and we were very isolated out in the trees. This is a great place to stay if you want to get away.

I attended a wedding recently located at the Women’s Federation Grove. Or, at least, it was supposed to be located there. Unfortunately for the bride, it rained the entire day of her wedding. Why am I telling you this? Because thanks to the owners of the Redcrest Resort, our family found an alternative location, and the reception was able to be held. That is not all these wonderful owners did for our family. They helped get generators started, loaned us extension cords… virtually anything we needed, they were willing to help.
Of course, this resort could not be in a more beautiful location. Right in the heart of the Avenue of the Giants– less than 6 miles from Scotia. You can get lost in the beauty.
Our wedding party rented several of their rooms, and the rooms were perfect for our needs. They are not «fancy», but they are very clean and well stocked. Each had a kitchen, with refrigerators, stoves and all the kitchen needs like plates, forks and cups, toasters, coffee makers, irons, hair dryers, etc. We had a flat screen TV, a DVD player, along with a nice selection of movies in the room. The beds were very comfortable and the linens and towels were clean and plentiful.
I cannot recommend this resort enough– especially if you are having a large group or hosting an event such as a wedding. The staff and owners here are extremely accomodating– they really care about their resort and their visitors. In all the chaos, we lost a room key, and they didnt charge us for it— and even called us to reassure they had found it. And later, when I was home, I realized I left my very expensive bracelet in one of the rooms, and the owners immediately called me back, let me know they found it, and mailed it to my home.
This type of customer service and honesty is incredibly rare. They have customers for life with my entire family. We will definitely be back again – and we now count these fine people as friends.

Pretty much everything you need in woods specially with kids.
We stayed in vacation home #14, 4 adults, 3 kids and a dog adjusted pretty decently.
BBQ with gas (only cation home), common bon fire place, wonderful kids play area, wonderful location… near to popular destination… very soft spoken host…
no hustle even during peak labor day weekend…

Wasn’t really sure at first. The musty cabin smell when we first walked in wasn’t what we expected for $ 200/​nt. it fit our family of 5 with dog well though and the kids loved the playground so close to our cabin. We also loved the fact that it had a dog park next to our cabin with mint growing all over where he ran. It left a fresh scent in the air. The kitchen had everything but was a little run down and rusty inside cabinets. Bowls and pans had water still in them but weren’t all that clean. I think the 2 biggest negatives were the tiny bathroom with shower us adults had to duck in to get our hair washed… and the waterproof mattress covers on the beds that were horribly loud and crackly every time someone moved. The location was great though. It was easy for us to spend a day wandering north and then the next day wandering south.

My husband and I stayed at Redcrest Resort and loved our adorable cabin, the beautiful surroundings, and the friendly people who run the resort! The staff goes above and beyond and are so helpful. We look forward to our return. The cabins have everything one needs an then some.
The gift shop if fantastic and the prices are reasonable. There is also a great little café across the street with yummy food and great service. Redcrest Resort is on our list of Favorites.

As you roll into the clearing in Redcrest, CA (Population 112, Elevation 530 ft) you see a tacky looking souvenir shop and a line of faded green cabins. What a great place.
Our cabin with two queen beds and a futon was immaculate, with a fully equipped kitchen. The only negative on the inside was a tight bathroom, with a tight fit around the shower door for those with a high BMI.
The front yard had plenty of activities available for everyone,(horseshoes, frisbee golf, table tennis, hot tub, fire pit etc.) Anyone from newlyweds, young families, teen families, or seniors could have a great stay here.
The staff was very courteous and helpful in finding nearby dining, trails and activities.
We paid $ 170 per night, which seemed high at first, but was a great value.
No AT&T cell phone service.

The only reason we didn’t give this 5 stars was because the beds were horrible and there was no where on the website that stated «be prepared!» What I mean by that is the entire town closes early and there’s NOWHERE to get supplies (food, diapers, stuff to make s’mores, anything!) Make sure to stop in Garberville if you’re heading north if you need anything prior.
The cabin itself was great! It felt super homey and clean. It came equipped with an oven, microwave, eating utensils, pans, flat screen TV, DVDs, etc. The only downside were the mattresses, they were super hard and felt like they were covered in plastic. Not comfortable. At all.
No cell service and no wifi. This could be good and bad, depending on what you’re looking for.
The staff was super nice and welcoming.
The café across the street was delicious!
There’s a general store across the street that was supposed to open the next morning… But there were spider webs on the door handles, pretty sure it hasn’t been opened in forever.
The experience overall was very pleasant, peaceful, and enjoyable! Definitely coming back :)

What nice motel manager these guys have. My son and arrived after 9 and they went out their way. In their pajamas to help us into a cabin.

My husband and I stayed here and we’ll definitely be coming back! It’s perfectly positioned on the Avenue, you can access the freeway easily and you’re about ¹⁄₃ from the Northern most access point.
Our room was recently renovated and was super comfortable. New bed, new carpet, new fixtures. We reserved a room with no kitchen, but it did come with a fridge, microwave and wine glasses. Perfect for what we needed! The room also had a flat screen with HDMI inputs so we were able to hook up the iPad and watch a movie. They also have a hot tub! Perfect end to our evening.
I took away 1 star for customer service. When booking our stay I reserved the room with a credit card, when we arrived, I was hoping to use a different one (I do this a lot, reserve with a cc and pay with debit and this is never a problem). She gave me some lame excuse why they couldn’t and I had to give her the one I reserved with. They don’t have a computer system and had to charge the room by running the card, so I’m not sure why using a different one would be a problem. I also asked to use the WiFi and they were VERY apprehensive about giving out the password. I had to listen to a 15 minute lecture about using their WiFi. In the end, once we checked in, we never saw or needed to interact with them again.

WOW! I was reading through some of the reviews and our experience was so different that some. The staff was very nice to us. We came upon the cabins while exploring the area. So we did not find it via the internet or anything like that. We stayed two nights, had a great time. It was myself and my 7 year old son, he loved the hot tub and table tennis. I was happy to have a kitchen.
The price was a bit more than we would have liked to spend and the showers were coffin sized. Those are the only con’s that we experienced. Otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will come back for another.

Well, it starts with my friend booking a place for us to stay in the beautiful Avenue of the Giants in the Humboldt Forest in Northern California. She booked this place based on their description over the phone (their website does not host pictures) where she was told that we had the only house on the property located deep in the woods.
We arrived to find ourselves staying in a street adjacent mobile home (1 of 14 mobile homes, mind you) with a sewage main pumping into the lawn not more than ten feet away from the home itself. The home is nothing remarkable except for an outdated design of non-​luxurious living space.
We were then constantly rudely harassed by the staff for a new rule that they never explained to us in the first place. In fact they constantly spoke to us like we were children, about everything. For that, I did not visit their gift shop
They told us when we checked in that dogs need to be on a leash at all times on property. Okay.
We go on a hike and return not more than 90 minutes later to find that our cabin is locked up. We find our way back in anyway, just assuming the door was sticking. 15 minutes later the staff comes rolling up in their electric cart to yell at us, and I mean «yell», as in loudly delivering rude dialogue, because apparently the reason our cabin was locked is because they wanted us to come talk to them, something that could have been accomplished with a note, but they decided to lock us out instead.
Now we are being yelled at for leaving our pets unattended, which was not explained to us, and that they were on furninture, also not explained to us. Apparently having 12 pounds of pets on furniture is detrimental to the environment. Then they threatened us with a $ 250 fee. We apologized and said that it won’t happen again, which wasn’t good enough for them to stop yelling.
I could understand getting angry if we were staying in their personal home, we’re not. We’re patrons, paying customers, renting our own dwelling, who don’t deserve this kind of rudeness.
Most of the weekend was spent feeling like we were constantly being watched. Any time we would ask a staff member anything, they would answer with «it’s in your manual». Yes, manual. In our kitchen was a sixty page binder that they claim explicitely explains all the rules and nuances of their fine establishment — it doesn’t. Cuz that’s what I want when I go on vacation — homework.
We got a dirty staredown from them as we rolled away in our van and watched as they immediately mosied over to our cabin to inspect things while we were still pulling away. And it should be noted that we took the high road and left the place spick and span before hitting the road. There’s probably a surcharge for that too.
All in all, I give this place two big thumbs down and would not recommend this place to anyone. Unless your ideal vacation is rude staff, smell of sewage, being yelled at for rules that don’t exist, and constantly feeling like having a good time will warrant another yelling session with the owners. Next year, I’m considering San Quentin Prison as a happy alternative to this place.
