History
Established in 1955.
Hanisch Bakery has a long history in the Red Wing community. It was first started by Bill Pirius in 1955 and then taken over by Bob and Nancy Braschler in 1972. Bob and Nancy took this bakery to the next level in the Red Wing area with expanding and adding to the great bakery it is today. In 2007 Bob and Nancy sold the bakery to it’s current owner’s Bill and Robyn Hanisch. So the bakery has changed names three times, everytime just the last name has changed, from Pirius, to Braschler, to Hanisch the tradition continues of excellent bakery products. Stop by and check us out. We still make Pirius’ Swedish Limpa Rye Bread every weekend.
Meet the Business Owner
Bill H.
Business Owner
Bill or Billy to most people is a hometown boy who started working at the bakery at age 15 mopping floors. He soon worked his way from the basement up, and we mean basement up. He started with mopping, to soon move into packaging in the basement. With lots of hard work he was starting in bakery production. From there he learned the basics and then left for school in Rhode Island at Johnson and Wales University. Upon returning to the bakery he was moved to night baking, and soon dreamed of the ownership role. In 2007 the owners sold the bakery to Bill. This is truly a family run bakery, with both Bill’s family helping out where needed.
