Americas Best Value Inn

Two words. BED BUGS. Room #208, same as Jennifer C. below. Really wish I’d read these reviews first. Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere. Room was also very much in need of renovation/​new furniture/​cleaning. Also, refused to honor Unilocal deal, but that was seriously a minor issue after encountering a full on BED BUG INFESTATION. I may never stay in a cheap motel again. Prefer cowboy camping in the dirt.

Just had the worst experience ever here. My husband, three sons and two kitties arrived here after 7am and rented a three bed room #208. We just drove hours from Fremont, Ca on our way to Redmond, OR for my new job position. Quite exhausted and tired we showered and went to sleep after I checked in, got the family breakfast. Next thing I know I wake up to a bed bug biting my arm. I freaked out since in my life time I have never had direct contact with bed bugs. I have went to many trainings and seminars to learn about them since I am in the property management field. Immediately, my husband jumped from the bed and removed the sheets and mattress cover to inspect the mattress. Sure enough, bed bugs on the edges of the mattress! I seen blood spots on another mattress! My husband went down to the office and told a man that stated his name was Johnny Patel and he credited back the room charge to me. I am more worried that bed bugs got on our kids, pets and belongings. Johnny visited us up at the hallway near our room and I explained to him that I better not have bed bugs on our children, pets or belongings. I told him I do not want the bed bugs getting into our soon to be new home. He stated «we have our room sprayed». Are you serious?! You just had it sprayed and checked us in? I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I told him I would be reporting it to the County Health Department. He walked away immediately after I told him that I could tell these bed bugs were there for a while due to the proof on the mattress. My husband took pictures and video and then the motel room phone was ringing and Johnny asked me if I wanted another room? I explained to him I do not want to stay at an Inn that knows they have bed bug infestations and still checks guests in. We ended the call. I called the County Health Department but they were closed so i will have to follow up tomorrow. I went into the office and asked Johnny for the details of the pest control that they used last to treat the room. He stated Clark Pest Control in Redding but couldn’t give me a number or a name of the pest control representative. He asked for my name and number and said he’d call me with the details. My husband said that when he went into the Inn office a woman stated «how do we know you didn’t bring them?» My husband told her what Johnny had already stated and showed her video of the bed bugs on the mattress and she then was quiet and walked away. It really disturbs me that these people knowingly have issues with pests but check in families like us and then accuse us when they have pest control in treating their rooms! Terrible, Terrible service! I will be talking to the health department and my lawyer. They better hope it hasn’t got into my my children’s and our clothing after shaking off everything and bagging and my pets! Don’t rent a room from this Inn, especially room #208. June 9^th and still no follow up call from Johnny Patel on pest control service information.
It is now June 15^th and «Johnny» has yet to call me with the pest control’s information.

It is 1:45 am and I am extremely tired and looking for a place to stay overnight. I am also taking a quick look to see if any hotels are having a deal.
I find America’s Best Value Inn is showing 39.99 for a single king size bed. So, I book it. I drive around the corner to the motel and press the doorbell to have someone come and take my information. A person comes to the front and asks me to fill out a card (normal procedure) I let him know I just booked the room on the deal they had through Unilocal.Bottom line He would not honor the deal. Terrible way to do business, but I’m sure he will find that out shortly.

I’ve not ever stayed at this hotel and never will. They allow pets but state no pit bull type dogs are permitted. Not only is breed specific regulation unsound (dogs are born inherently good, people make them bad) but many people can’t correctly distinguish a pit from a mutt.

If a dog is a certain breed, so what? I’ve encountered poorly behaved or untrained dogs of many breeds. It has everything to do with their owner and nothing to do with their breed.
So, if I owned a hotel and decided I just didn’t like retrievers that would make it okay for me to advertise ‘all dogs welcome, excepts yours if I decide it looks too much like a retriever.’?
Absurd.
Shame.

We stayed here on our road trip in 2013.
We arrived here by coincidence, our GPS sent us to this hotel instead of another one up the street and it was a GREAT thing.
We had a coupon for the other hotel and they matched it. Their prices are affordable even without a coupon.
The rooms are bigger than the last motels we stayed in (M6), also nicer and cleaner. There is a microwave, fridge, working AC and TV in the room.
The courtyard is well lit with several cameras. Free WIFI.
The owners are an older couple. They are nice, just need to smile occasionally.
They let us use the pool for a little bit after the check out before we hit the road.
We wish they had coffee in the morning, it’s cheap and adds a nice feature.
There is a laundromat and a diner walking distance.
This place will definitely be on our list of places to stay the next time we travel this direction. Good stopover spot for a family to recharge.

We stayed in room 114. Talk about run down and majorly outdated. I have my Golden Retriever with me and I am wondering if the management keeps some old crappy rooms for people with pets. From some of the reviews I’ve read of nice rooms newly renovated, it wouldn’t surprise me.
Furniture is old and ugly, carpets look like they’ve been here since the dinosaurs over ran the earth. Toilet is so low to the floor it’s a struggle for someone like me with bad knees to get up from there. The entry door sticks to the door frame. The TV is 1990’s.
Microwave, fridge and TV work fine.

We made a reservation here for the wrong date. I didn’t realize it under the next day, after my card was charged. I spoke to the owner/​general manager, Suren Patel, and I asked him to change the reservation or to issue a credit for the correct night and he said «I can’t.» I responded with the question; «You can’t or you won’t?» and he replied «You are right; I won’t.» I am traveling with my three children, with the youngest only 2 and we will now be forced to sleep in rest areas because I do not have the money for another reservation. The owner FLAT OUT REFUSED TO CREDIT MY CARD OR CHANGE MY RESERVATION.

Pros:
Decent Stay at the price. Stayed in Room 201. I am not sure about other rooms, but this one looks renovated. Includes basic necessities, AC, Microwave, Small Fridge and TV, they all are in good condition and fairly new.
Bed was comfortable.
Bed, Carpet and the restrooms are very clean.
Courteous Staff.
We only used it for the night’s sleep and for the price, this is a very good choice in this area.
Free Wifi.
Cons:
No Breakfast.

RM 101: A little run down hotel but satisfied my need for a few hours of sleep while traveling. 45.00 beats having to pay 100.00 plus for comfort inn or something just to sleep.
Mold or mildew in bathroom. Paint cracking and tools bars ripped off etc

This was our second stay. Our first stay was better. We stayed in room 205. This time we wanted a downstairs room. We got 110, this room should not be rented! The health department needs to do a full inspection on every single room here AND all the buildings. The lady didnt want to here how dirty room 110 was. We were able to get a better room, 204. This room was missing 2 washrags, and after letting the management lady know, we never received 2 washrags. Will NOT stay here again.

Cheap motel off I-​5. I’ve been stopping here several times on my drive between LA and Portland. Rooms are comfortable and much nicer since I first stayed here a few years ago.

First off, my 4 star rating is based 90% on the Manager’s hospitality. We were traveling from visiting family in Oregon and headed home to Corona, CA. We couldn’t drive any further so we stopped around 1 am to find a place to get some sleep. It was for 2 adults and 2 children. I called several places and they wanted around $ 80 for the night. Stopped at a Motel 6 and there were teenagers hanging around outside drinking and hanging on their vehicles. So we went over the freeway and found this place. We pulled in and after ringing the bell, the Manager came out in his pajamas and a smile even though we had woke him and gave us a cheap rate for the night. He asked if I wanted upstairs or downstairs, etc. After I paid for the room he explained that we could get a full breakfast for $ 4 with our room key in the morning. When we went to park the car, we realized that our room was in a corner and I was unable to park where I could see my car. We circled around the building once and when we came back around, there was the Manager standing there guiding us to park in front of the pool. This was not a normal parking spot, but he could tell I didn’t feel comfortable not being able to see my car. I could see it perfectly from this spot. While we were parking and getting our belongings together, he went to our room and unlocked it, and turned on the lights and the air for us, left extra towels and left the door open so we could easily get into the room with our kids and luggage. Once we had been in the room for about 5 minutes, the manager called and asked if the room was okay and offered cold bottled water and soda. We had some trouble at the vending machine shortly after and he came out and helped us get the beverages that we needed.
I can honestly say that I have never experienced service like this, or had such a kind hospitable hotel Manager during our travels. Especially at these cheaper motel chains.
The room had a nice desk setup and they had free wi-​fi, and cable. Also Microwave, coffee pot and refrigerator. The room wasn’t the nicest, and the shower was stained up on the floor. One of our pillow cases was dirty, but I have to say the Service made up for it. Upon checkout he was very friendly when I again woke him. And said he hoped we would come back again.

I didnt check reviews before checking in. Dont stay here! The man at front desk was very nice but after going to our room it was horrifying! The room smelled of urine and the temp was way too hot. We asked for a refund but the nice man said no but that he could move us. Thankfully the new room didnt stink and temp was much better. Spend a few more $$$ and go somewhere else. DONT STAY HERE!

Manager is kind

This place is very stinky. I know the rate is cheap but it’s not worth it. I stayed here because it was the only place that had rooms empty. There’s cockroaches all over the room and if you wake up in the middle of the night just turn on the lights and you’ll see them crawling all over the room. Beware… Not a family place…

Not bad on a budget a nice large room for 50.00 king bed 2 people clean and decent large rooms good for the price

For an inexpensive motel, I couldn’t ask for more.
My car broke down and needed a place near the mechanic. We mostly picked this place because it was close, but it turned out to be just fine.
There’s a pool, the room was clean, and the desk person was extremely nice and helpful with lots of tips about the various restaurants, etc, nearby.
Sure, there was one dead hooker in the bathroom, but no place is perfect. (Kidding!)
Free wi-​fi! I’m happy as a little clam. Clams are happy, right? And a refrigerator and microwave in the room. And it’s pink. Gotta love kitsch-​colored motels.

We checked in and right when we put our stuff down we see a cockroach running down the wall. Ewww! When we called the front desk the woman asks «was it just one?» Umm how about apologize and try to fix it! We immediately left to find a better place which was hard since the rodeo was in town. Thankfully there was a last minute cancellation at Holiday Inn Express; it was much nicer, cleaner, and more accommodating!

The woman running the desk was friendly and very helpful. When she saw our two kids out playing on the grass by the pool, she ran out with two soccer balls for them kick around. It had a family-​run feel.
Look, it’s a cheap hotel just off the 5 freeway. It’s not a resort destination, but it is clean, the rooms have AC and cable, and there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. At $ 39 a night, it’s just about what you’d expect.
The 4-​star rating is for the overall friendliness and value, not because it’s some hidden oasis of luxury.

This place is the epitome of a seedy motel. Dingy rooms, old furnishings, squeaky mattresses. I can only imagine what kind of people frequent this place when the hotel isn’t being taken over by crazy car folks. Probably sleazy prostitutes and the like. Regardless, I didn’t get to actually «try out» a room, so I can’t speak to the full overnight experience. There’s a swimming pool, which is a plus, and the gentleman at the front counter (probably the owner?) was helpful in recommending things to do in Red Bluff. haha, because in this town of 13,000 I’m sure there’s a-​plenty of stuff going on.

Sunday morning as a group of us were about to depart from the Lamplighter in Red Bluff, we were getting into our cars when a woman (who looked like she could be on an extended vacation from her career as a professional carnival worker or something) stumbled around the corner and yelled «Hey, I need help moving something… heavy from a couple of you guys.»
Pete Stout (navigator for Randy’s silver Porsche 356) Bill Mertz, and myself were the closest idiots. We all traded skeptical looks and with a collective «lets just get this done» sheepishly headed around the corner to the back side of the hotel behind the woman. That’s when she muttered «He’s too heavy for me, he’s got a broken leg and we need to lift him onto the bed.» We arrived at the open room door before we could turn and run, and inside it was a scene straight out of COPS reality TV. There was a guy propped up in front of the TV on the front edge of the bed with his legs extended on two chairs. In slurred speech he told us «I tripped and fell on a cinder block right out there» and the woman said «We need to lift him onto the bed.» Bill and I looked at each other with mouths agape, but no sounds came out. The broken leg wasn’t obvious from our vantage point.
Pete steps up and says, «Ma’am, if his leg is broken he shouldn’t be moved, if you’re reasonably comfortable there you need to stay there.» The woman started yelling «I’m a registered nurse for nine years!» Pete interjects «You need to get an ambulance, and wrap him in blankets if he’s cold, I’m not comfortable touching or moving him if it’s broken.»
She then starts rambling «That’s what I’m saying, that’s exactly what I was thinking, an ambulance yeah I know…» We turn, bolt out the door and briskly walk back. Pete heads straight for the office and tells the unsuspecting manager «You’ve got some kind of medical emergency in room 147 and they need an ambulance or something.» 30 seconds later all of us peeled out of the Lamplighter.
Who knows if it was a lawsuit scam, or just a super depressing mishap, but as I recounted the story later that day to Jeff Guzaitis over lunch in Ferndale, his first reaction wasn’t shock, surprise, or even acknowledging that Pete totally saved the day — he said, «What room number was that again? Those fools told me we had all of the rooms in the Hotel. I should call them right now…»
